I still game the Callaway x2 hot irons for this reason. Watched an old review of Ricks when I was scouring the used market and haven't even thought about changing since and those are now 10 year old clubs. Technology has come far but there wasn't going to be exponential growth forever either. Irons may have gotten 5-10 yards more distance per club and 5% more forgiving in that time and that's not nearly enough to justify the new sets being 5-10 times the price of something only a couple years older.
If you're into the low handicap, flush with cash, and looking to treat yourself to a full fitting, then maybe. If not, there are better ways to use that money over time on golf improvement without breaking the bank on brand new clubs.

I played with a Taylor Made rental set a few years ago, which included a SIM2 Max Driver. To this day, it is one of the best drivers I have ever hit. I love that you made this video, because to be honest, the latest drivers are pricing a lot of people out of the market, which is unfortunate. However, it is increasingly evident that the purported "gains" may not actually not be worth the extra money for non professional golfers anyway...

    • @JacesOwnWorld
      @JacesOwnWorld 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Yep. I rarely see anyone walking into a shop and buying a brand new driver off the shelf. Why? I would bet the price is the deal breaker for that decision. So why are all drivers $450+ now if they know people are less willing to buy them when they look at the price? Because the manufacturers are monopolies. They figure since the other brand is selling for $450+, then they might as well too. They could be selling the same driver brand new for $300 and still make a profit, but they won’t because it will mess up the entire industry. Lame isn’t it.

So I bought the SIM 2 max 2nd hand a month ago and love it. It’s way more forgiving than my TaylorMade RBZ and slightly longer, but the RBZ is around 10 years older. I’m so glad to hear the SIM2 max holds its own against the Qi10 as I felt super guilty on scrooging out on the old model. Thanks heaps for helping to justify my tight arse decision Rick! TaylorMade released a video with Scottie, Rory, Collin, Tommy etc. where they talked up the Qi10 saying how it was now most forgiving driver they had released - but they also showed a graph that indicated the SIM2 Max and M4 were sitting at 8700 MOI vs the Stealth at 8200 MOI vs Qi10 at 1000 MOI. Perhaps that MOI margin between the SIM2 Max and Qi10 is negligible when you switch the shaft to the Qi10 shaft, as Rick did. Great content as always RS 🎉

I had a similar experience with my Sim 2 Max a few weeks ago. I tried the Qi10 because I've been struggling with missing left with my driver. Initially I liked the performance of the Qi10 until my fitter swapped the shaft from the Qi10 into my Sim 2 Max. Misses left eliminated and about 5-7 extra yards of carry with my 3 year old driver. My fitter let me do the shaft swap for free since I was buying two new wedges that I was fitted for they day. New isn't always better.

I have a TaylorMade M3 that is a 430cc model. It has been hot melted at some point before I owned it. It is 11g heavier than other M3 heads I have weighed and actually has a left to right ball flight when the weights are neutral. This club head hit as far or farther than anything I have tried. Regardless of brand or how new it is. I have a new Krank Fire- I had a G425LST- I have tried a Sim Max. Every new driver that comes out- I go try it at Golf Galaxy near me. None are measurably better than my M3.

As a senior golfer, I own both the SIM2 MAX and M5 drivers. When my back is feeling normal, I opt for the M5 with the Fujikura Speed regular shaft. However, if I'm experiencing discomfort due to an abnormal back condition, I switch to the SIM2 MAX with the Ventus Blue senior shaft. Despite yearly trials of new drivers using a launch monitor, I've noticed little variance in performance. Instead of constantly investing in new clubs, consider adjusting the balance point by adding lead tape to the club head or grip butt to optimize your current driver's performance.

I have actually just made the switch from my SIM2 (regular version, not max), to the QI10 Max but with the same shaft. I am very pleasently suprised with the QI10, it holds ball speed on miss hits so much better and I actually like the feel in this third iteration of the carbon face. the general dispersion has also improved as the misses with the QI10 seem to be more push or pull instead of slice and hook.

Ok so we listened to Rick on this video. And went out and purchased the Sim2 Max. The price was right so we thought we would give it a go. Now my son is a plus 5 so he isnt scratch but still a very good ball striker. He hit the Sim2 longer than any previous driver he has hit. Which includes the Callaway Rogue stls, Smoke Max, TM Stealth, stealth 2, QI10 max , Ping 430 Max, 10k and several others. What Rick doesnt tell you is how punishing the Sim2 Max is when not hit well. 300 yard drives down to 250 and less. So again it was a long driver and we own it. But for tournament play the thing just wasn’t consistent. Ended up going and getting fit at the local PGAt store. Which is where a lot of these drivers were hit. Actually had in our minds he would walk out with the QI10 max or the 10k ping. Did walk out with a Ping but ended up being the 430 Max. Which was not as long as the Sim2 but was definitely more accurate. Now my son is hitting 275-280 consistently. And hitting the fairways over 70% of the time. Needless to say it was only about 30% for the Sim2. Anyhow said all that to say this. Go get fit. Dont waste $300 just bc its a good price.

This was very interesting to see. You can’t dispute the data. Some of these big manufacturers simply market the hell out of the “new” club failing to deliver the results. This is why the HIT channel is so important!

I went to a sporting goods store recently and hit the smoke ai, ping 430, and the Qi was pretty underwhelmed and than I last minute decided to hit the Sim2 and I will confirm out performed the rest. I ended up buying the sim 2 and couldn’t be happier. I was very intent on getting the smoke ai and walked out saving 300 bucks. The spin rate ball speed and pattern was better than the rest.

Like I been saying for the past 5 years, driver technology has reached it's max! I believe for the past 2 years that the manufacturers have been reaching for something new with no success. Driver technology is the best that it's going to get! They can't make them bigger, they can 't make them lighter. So if you have a driver from the past 3 years your good.

I think it would be more interesting in similarly designed drivers. Sim2 and Qi10 max aren’t exactly engineered for the same golfer. You should compare Sim2 max to Qi10 standard those are basically the same design.

It all just comes down to what you hit best. I can’t hit the Qi10 LS model or the MAX model for shit. However, I can get 300 yard drives with a Qi10 core easily. I just bought a used Rogue ST MAX LS for $150 and put a new Tensei AV Blue with Xlink shaft in it. I don’t hit it as far as the Qi10, but seemed to hit it more consistently. But I’ve only played one round with the Rogue ST and had fixed some stuff in my swing. I find the Qi10 core to spin too much for me on some miss-hits which causes a floating rightward miss. The Rogue doesn’t spin as much so it makes the misses not at bad. The Qi10 Max I can only swing at about 108-110mph. The head is just massive. But I can swing the Qi10 core at 118 with ease. I love the Qi10 for the distance and the feel. We will just have to see how it goes. I feel like if my swing is more dialed, the Qi10 is the driver to go with. If I’m a little off with the swing, the Rogue works better. But the main thing is I only have $200 into this like new Rogue ST that’s only 2 years old tech. The Qi10 is $600. lol

As someone that just recently got fit into the Qi10 I'd have to disagree with this test. I never liked the feel of TaylorMade drivers from Sim-Stealth 2, and I've always played Titleist drivers, but this Qi10 was the most forgiving driver for my swing. At 7.5 degrees it gave me the best launch angle, dispersion, ball speed, and carry of all the new drivers this year. You clearly hit the sim 2 much better than the Qi10, and I think smash factor and face angle to path would show that

The big problem for someone like me is that the retailers wont do a custom fitting if you intend to buy a 3 year old club, they only do that on the new models. Half the driver is the shaft so if you try to buy one off the shelves it is a big risk that the club wont fit you.

Hey Rick, the Sim2 max was more of the core model for Taylormade in 2021 and probably should have been compared to the standard Qi10. However I believe this test did show that moi approaching 10k is hardly necessary and more of just a marketing ploy for Tm and Ping
P.s. would love to see you test the Srixon mkii ZX5 Ls. Definitely the easiest low spin driver I’ve ever hit.

I have been using a sim2 max driver since 2021. I recently went for a fitting, and none of the new "more forgiving" drivers out there today could outperform my sim2 max when using the same shaft. So I'll probably just buy a replacement sim2 head when this one wears out. Newer is not always better.
