Mark shares the realities of sleeping rough homeless on the streets of London.

- "It's raining. You're wet. You're soaking. Shivering at night. People are dodgy. They'll rob you. Take your stuff. Beat you up." is how Mark describes homelessness.
I met Mark in an alley in central London on a rainy day. Mark says he has been homeless for 10 years. He says because he is not vulnerable there is no help. I am not an expert in people or homelessness, but after living 10 years on the streets I would consider Mark as vulnerable. Unfortunately, sometimes people like Mark slip through the "safety net", and after years on the streets, people adapt to a life sleeping rough.
Mark holds up a anti-homeless sign he says was posted because of the Olympics. When I tweeted a still photo of the sign a few people responded that the town of Croyden is no where near the Olympics. I cannot validate the authenticity of the sign. But Mark believes it's because of the Olympics, and all week rough sleepers I met talked about being pushed out of the city by police. What I can tell you is I highly doubt Mark had that sign made so I believe, Olympics or not, Mark found that anti-homeless sign posted. I always take every person at their word. Time and time again even the most outrageous stories have proven to be true. Besides, when I was homeless, would you have believed me when I told you I worked in television!
What's important here is not a sign, but that a person is sleeping rough on the streets. We must address system failures so that no one has to sleep without adequate housing.

The problem is he has to help himself. Not sit there begging. People believe it's there ticket into heaven giving homeless people cash but it fuels there drug addiction or provides them with stable STREET LIVEING. instead of a bit of tuff love like when mum and dad stop giving you pocket money so you GO EARN YOUR OWN.

Watching videos like these open my eyes slightly to the positive influences I have had in my life to help me get to where I am. His three wishes are my lived daily reality. I wouldn't be where I am without support from so many people, especially my family.
The ability to move in with family during times when I needed to save money, the assistance with paying for my education, the emotional support for me even when I did things that my parents disagreed with, the friends who helped me connect with employers, the extended family who cared about how I was doing and visited me when I moved away. I have been so blessed...

When this man lost his patients things went very wrong, his own sister put him out in the street, it's really sad. It does not get any worse being put out by his family.

They do that in every city where the olympics are held. It's truly disgusting and stupid too because every city has homeless. So why not raise awareness and let them be - work globally to eliminate the problem instead of protending there is no problem.
It does not sound from all of Mark's british videos that there is a very good safety net there. Canada has alot more - at least in Ontario.
The best way to help the homeless is to create a mobile laundry and shower service.

If the government decided to help the homeless [ housing, basic income], people who are just making it will stop doing what that are doing to get the same benefits without working. That's why no one gives a f about the homeless. Too many scammers ruining things for needy people.
I live in a converted 1996 Dodge Ram 1500, turned into a RV that I can't rent a spot at a trailer park because it's not an "official RV", even though I am willing to pay their rent. The DMV wants to fine me for not paying for insurance for a vehicle that doesn't move from its parked spot. So, for now I'm playing "catch me if you can". If they take my truck, I'll just buy another one and make fake plates.

The plight of the homeless is horrible world wide.Sadly the golden rule has been rewritten in these times to now say he who has the gold rules. As for the Americian dream, it is like George Carlin said, in order to dream you have to be asleep.In fact basically we never really own anything, try not paying your property tax and see how quickly the sheriff comes to take your home, sounds like something out of Robin Hood yet it is reality in 2012.Please help anyone, anywhere, anyway you can. You have to help yourself in this life I found myself on the street in 1973 when I was 19 thanks to my brother who was 5 years older so relying on anyone can and usually is your downfall I actually left with him and another brother when I was 17 from stalag 10 has I called it had a good job but nowhere to live and in 1973 there was hardly any flats or apartments to rent unlike today if you get off arse there should be no reason for you being homeless

The ridiculous thing is that if everyone in the UK paid just 1p, that's enough money to buy 5 houses. If everyone paid a pound, you could buy a decent home for 500 people. There is no reason at all for anyone to be homeless in a civilised society, it's just such a waste.

Revenues from Olympics or any major showcase event can be invested in homeless housing initiatives. Cities keen to displace the already displaced can do it with sustainable housing in mind. Citizens deserve more than being shuffled around.

Where do you run it? On the sidewalk? Youd get stopped at first then probably arrested the second time. And you then have to carry it with you. Thank you need pots and pans to make it work, at least one. Then you need a way to wash said pot/pan. Then you have to carry it too. They need fuel you have to keep buying. Besides, for the West, food isn't the problem any way

When he says that the homeless are being moved from Croydon in south London, to Stratford in East London doesn't make sense, bec the Olympic venues are concentrated in Stratford.

Here's a thought, what about grouping people in homeless situation and advocate for effective re-insertion programs, skill enhancing workshops and work with local governments on ideas to live with dignity. If you are a group large enough and organized enough it might open doors. The struggle of one, can be the struggle of many.

Just because you are homeless doesn't necessarily mean that you give up on your appearence and dignity. Some people make an effort to keep what they can, it also helps if you really want to move on up from the gutter.

iceQueen 75 buy some land and have some building supplies company Donate building supplies or find some land that have a nice big farm house buy it and let the homeless live there and grow their own food and have live animals so they can do for themselves and have some kind of dignity of their lives I think they would enjoy that start with the women and children first and veterans

Why they are spitting and harassing the homeless people that much as I have seen so many people whom even have been harassed by the officers . They should have tried to find someone or some systems to take care him before he got to have his own shelter eventually. I mean they just have treated him worse than the trash while enforcing him to go to somewhere while knowing that he had no where to go . It is so rude and . I don't know how to explain .
If they truly just wanted to make him leave the street , then they had to provide or introduce somewhere to stay safe . But before that they seemed to have harassed him so badly .
