Hi Neil. I thanked you 3 years ago for this. I'm thanking you again now. Every time I watch it it gets clearer and refreshes what I've forgotten. It's update our templates & styles time again. Thank you very much for your help. Jim

    Hi Neil,
Yet again you come to my rescue.
We are just updating from Inventor & Vault 2012 to 2016
Somehow I got to volunteer for the job of seeing it through.
I did what I thought was right to migrate our company Templates & Styles.
I lost all of the stuff we had added to it ! ! !
Watched this and the water became less murky.
I have brought the materials through and any I miss I can get later.
Your style and clarity of instruction are superb.
I will now have to dry less tears.
    :)
    Thanks again.
    Jim

Thank you! You did a great job explain the dumb quirks and I've got a much better grasp of what I'm doing now. I appreciate the UK idioms, as well. Kumquat!

Emerson Goncus Haha thanks, I need to use Kumquat more in conversations with people. It's a tremendous word.

Thank you very much for this video. The usability of the material library is indeed very poor and i have been so frustrated with it's functionality. This video was a great help for me.
I recommend that you consider breaking the information in future videos into sections with each section covering a more specific subject, provide a list of the subjects covered and provide a timestamp link to each section in the description. This way the viewer will know more specifically what subjects you're covering in each video and they can quickly look at the overview of subjects to see if the information that they're looking is covered in the video. For instance, if i only need information on how to create materials. Or how to change the units within a material file.

Patricia O'neill Does this one not help? th-cam.com/video/B4tPD6tYQco/w-d-xo.html Obviously it isn't the same type of image you're wanting to import but the principals might be the same?

This is a great tutorial. However, one on how to use the appearance libraries or editor doesn't exist because all I can find are honorable mentions. Maybe it's because it would take over 30 mins to cover it in depth.

When we select material its come out in Document material & same place we can change physical properties of material for particular document. How to make read only in document material?

If I have one computer with one license and two users and the administrator has it own appearance library, how can I make it avaliable (or copy) for another user?

  • @gagfam2780

Firstly I'm sorry for my bad English language if you don’t understand for what I’m asking about maybe you can respond and I will explain again.
Thank you for the video furthermore I already made a new material properties I liked to say "SS400" (Japan standard code material) because I want to run analysis using frame analysis to have a result more precisely and so I found a problem, when i go to design > insert frame the family of the material and also size are the default option of the insert frame the only different on material option there where I found my new properties ss400. My question is, if I select ss400 on material and I insert the frame using closely material profile what I want let’s say on family > JIS G 3193 - Hot rolled H-Beam and size > 200 x 200 is it the result are the same like the default property JIS G 3193 or my new properties ss400? If there are same result so there is no effect if we use the properties of new material on the insert frame. Next step I haven’t try because I don’t know how to design the profile frame from the plate, need your guidance for this.
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    AR

Andrew Renno This isn't my full time job so I don't have much time outside of my day job to work on all questions unfortunately, I try to answer quick ones if I can. I'm also in the middle of moving house too so I don't even have much time at the moment to create new videos! If I'm reading your question right, you're asking if you use a custom material during the insert frame does it use the properties of your material? Yes it should... as long as you have published your material to the style library with the correct properties and have then used that material when placing the frame, I see no reason why it won't correctly use your material. It should use your properties yes.

Andrew Renno It's fine :) Thank you for watching my videos! I do get a lot of questions and I wish I could answer them all, the best place for a very quick answer is the official Autodesk Inventor discussion area forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-general-discussion/bd-p/78 there are a lot of experts on that site who answer questions very very quickly!
