  • In this video I give you guys some history and experiences with using hydroponic media for growing aquarium plants emersed. In the beginning I struggled with this stuff, however, Ive got it dialed in now and I am in the process of converting my entire operation over to using strictly Hydroton. Watch the video to learn about all about this stuff and why I like it :)

    Need some help.
    How often do you spray the plants with water and how often do you use the nutrients.
    Do you maybe have a video of the care of the ferns with regards to spraying and nutrient dosage?

    You are using a fertilizer for the growing of your emersed plants. But is normally not suitible for using with fish. But after harvasting your plants (emersed) and put them into the aquarium (submersed) are the plants then 100 % save to be used with fish and shrimps living in it?
    Because the plants and his leaves were treated with a fertilizer not to be used normally for fish/shrimps ☺️

      Almost all aquarium plants are grown hydroponically at commercial farms. Look up Tropica or Dennerle for example. They are safe for aquarium use. A quick rinse in fresh water before going in the tank wouldn’t hurt though 👍

    Hello, I’m sorry if this question seems kinda stupid……….. I just don’t have a lot of knowledge. But will I be successful growing these plants emerged with just a desk lamp? Or do you need specific aquarium LED equipment or smthn like that? Thank you!!

    • @AquariumPlantLab
      @AquariumPlantLab  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you want to use a desk lamp then you will want to use a 6500k CFL bulb or a 6500k LED screw in bulb. A standard house light will not likely provide the full spectrum and PAR values needed for plants. But a simple screw in bulb CFL or LED should do the trick :)

    • @AquariumPlantLab

      Java fern loves foliar spray so I still do spray them daily. Anubias on the other hand only likes foliar spray occasionally so I generally just mist the Anubias with water. Every few days they get foliar spray too though 👍

    do you spray the ferts on the substrate or the plants? and when we use them in an submersed setup are they fish friendly ?

    • @AquariumPlantLab
      @AquariumPlantLab  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In my emersed plant propagation setups I spray hydroponic nutrients on the leaves of the plants. This can boost growth. Hydroponic nutrients are not fish safe though, so don’t use such ferts in an aquarium.
      What you want for an aquarium is a fish friendly planted aquarium fertilizer. They make products for that purpose. Just make sure to read the label carefully to ensure the fertilizer is aquarium safe.
      If you’re asking if the plants grown this way are safe to add to your aquariums then yes, they should be just fine. Most aquarium plants are grown commercially at farms with similar methods and ferts. Look up tropica or dennerle for example.
