The larger bomb would have been a 500 kg HE bomb and the smaller 100kg mix of HE (Blast) and Incendiary (Fire), depending on their target for the day. During the Night Blitz a load of 1 500 and 8 or 10 100 kilo Incendiaries would be standard. During the raids on RAF airfields during the Daylight, a mix of HE and Incendiaries would be preferred, for maximum damages to equipment and facilities. Specific targets would entail 2x 500 kilo HE bombs in the lead bomber, with a mixture of both 100kg types (HE and Incendiary) flown HE and Incendiaries in other bombers in the Staffel. (Squadron). BTW, most excellent job on a lovely kit. I do 1/48 and have both the ICM Do17Z and their Do215 kit. (The "export" version intended for Sweden utilising V12 Daimler Benz engines, but diverted to Luftwaffe stocks at the outbreak.) The Do215 was faster and better streamlined and ended up being used largely for reconnaisance and After-strike photos, especially during Barbarossa abut was also used in the Balkans and BOB. Both types were super-ceded by the far superior Do217E in 1941/42 with 2x BMW 801 Radials (like the Fw190A)
Excellent info there Brett. It looks a little small for a 500kg but then the German bombs had a much better charge to weight ratio than British bombs, so would be smaller for a given explosive mass.

I loved building mine. It’s a really enjoyable kit. I built lots of photo-etch into mine with a Big Ed set… I can’t see very much of it now, though. The 1:48 ICM / Eduard kit was my most enjoyable build experience of the last year. Great to see!

Stripe on the fuselage goes around at the wing root as per reference photos. Never trust the instructions from kits lol.

Thanks for that - there have been many issues with decal placing directions I have noticed recently.
@@garys_stuff even aftermarket sets have errors. Especially with color callouts
So glad I watched this Gary, I have been struggling with a 1/48 ICM and still think they (ICM) are overly fussy and I am still really a beginner, groan. However it was bought for me and I'm damnwell gonna finish it. Your videos have shown me how I can retrieve the situation and go forward. Thank you sir.
My pleasure Norman. All you need to do is check the instructions and dry fit where possible before applying glue. Take your time and you'll get there! Hope you're enjoying it - I've got the new ICM Beaufort in the pipeline soon...

hi Greg what a beautiful kit, I haven’t build a plastic model for a while and I am really impressed how the recent ones could be extremely detailed, I would like to buy a kit and start again, but I know this hobby requires a lot of things, tools ,colors and many many time to dedicate it, so I feel disheartened just to think that, anyway I am really happy to follow your TH-cam chanel.
Cracking build! Adding this to the list after seeing this - the interior detail rivals 1:48 or indeed the Airfix 1:72 Fortress III!

Hi Gary nice build, re the tail plane incidence , you were right it is for trimming, controlled by a wheel on the port side of the cockpit.
A really good book for German ww2 info is “ Wings of the Luftwaffe” by Capt Eric “Winkle” Brown, he holds the record for the amount of aircraft he flew, especially just after ww2 when he was sent to Germany to find their jet and rocket aircraft. There’s lots on TH-cam about him. 👍

The cockpit is great! Your canopy is terrific. The landing gear is by Eiffel. Your airbrushing has super coverage without obscuring detail.
Haven't looked at one of these since I built the old Monogram version. Think I may try the Sea Fury first.

Another great build mate👍.bean on the airfix website a couple of times last week and noticed there has been no pictures available on it for their kits was wondering if anyone else has noticed lol

Hi, i've got a question,
how are decals in this kit? are they decent or worht replacing? because from the 1st sight they seem to be thick
Not testing the painting, as I mentioned below, may explain why some apertures such as for gun barrels, are too small. Maybe the raw plastic parts fit, but the tolerances are so fine that once they are painted they are too big?
Very nice build, finding getting a mask set is a bit difficult, everyone is taking your advice Gary, keep them

Brilliant build Gary, it looks a bit fiddly, especially around the cockpit area. Do you use a gloss varnish before doing a wash and putting on the decals, or do you find it is not necessary if you use Micro set/fix?Looking forward to Monday matters and your next build.Regards, Mike.
I normally put down a satin varnish coat before the decals unless the paint is gloss, but if not then microset still works.
Does It have the crooked crosses on the tail ?
Airfix kits never have them, not even in two parts.
And I don't add them from aftermarket because YT can be a bit fussy about them. I have heard of videos being picked up for including them.
@@garys_stuff that is probably best, especially as it's not entirely clear if it's humans that make a report or some kind AI.

Bit of a whoopsie from Airfix on the decals. I wonder if only model /construction/ is tested not painting or decals.
Great job as always! Wikipedia has this to say about the bombs 'Bombs: 1,000 kg (2,205 lb) of bombs carried internally, either 20 x 50 kg (110 lb) bombs or 4 x 250 kg (551 lb) bombs
'. Give that a Lancaster could carry at maximum 22,000 (10 tons) 2206 (1 ton) is a tad weedy considering its job as a /bomber/. [Edit: Mind you with the number of gunners they must have sacrificed bomb capacity. Wikipedia says crew of four, but there's more than four guns alone]. [Looks like the model has 1 x 250kg + 10 x 50kg so 750kg total). Curious how the Luftwaffe racked bombs vertically and the RAF horizontally.
You can do 20 of the smaller bombs if you want! The Germans never went in for the massive strategic bombers that the allies did, I guess there are on a par with the medium bombers such as the Hampden, Mitchell and so on. Not the battle plan, was it?
@@garys_stuff The Luftwaffe was conceived as a tactical force to support the army, usually under them or a mile or so back, so they never had the strategic reach of the RAF which could do both tactical support for the army and strategically hit the enemy.
is the decal the yelow rigtangel fixed ? airfix ? i wandt to bui it but the decal schould be like in the real one. greets. 13:24

Nice build, but your attention to detail is somewhat lacking. It looks like you build the kit straight out of the box.
I know, it's a failing of mine. At some stage I will repent by making the Harrier GR.9 with open engine covers, etc.

No, there aren't any supplied with the kit, and the TH-cam algorithm is (I am told) sensitive to some visual elements and doesn't like them. Also, when you upload you have to say if there is anything contentious in the video (there are lots of things to choose from) and if you say yes then it affects the advertising revenue potential. Personally, I don't see an issue as it is a matter of history and people need to recognise the symbols of fascism in order to confront it.
@@garys_stuff : I had wondered about that too.... shame that YT is so petty about that; it may not be a nice symbol, with what it represents, but it is a part of history - ugly history, but history nonetheless.... What are they going to take offence to next I wonder; the British Union flag because of our colonial history?
