      The Superduke 1290R makes perfect sense to me every time I ride mine. Mad torque, superbike type of HP (for a V-Twin), comfortable to ride on the road, good handling, and great braking. Also with a unique look. I just wish tires would last longer :-)

    Very interesting video! I actually put a 1290 Superduke engine in my RC8r (race bike) back in 2014. I did mine a slightly different way than this... I swapped the 1290 heads over with my RC8r ones. I was then able to use the RC8r loom and airbox (still no electronics...). I also found that cartridge front forks (K-tech) provided a huge front end improvement.

      More like RC790. A sportbike with a monocylinder would lack power; against a 600 four-cylinder it would be left far behind.
      The twin is producing a lot more power than the mono because it revs higher, and that's what you want in your sportbike.

    I know this is some years old, but this is still a dream build. Currently I know of a drag racer/tuner that put a Hyabusa motor in a 07/08 Suzuki GSXR 1000 chassis and added a turbo, that hooks and is incredibly quick.

    Having owned 2 RC8R's I was very disappointed to learn that there would not be a street version of the RC16.
    That being said however. One would be foolish to believe that KTM would develop a V4 for motoGP and not allow the engine tech/design to filter down into street legal bikes.

    Having owned a RC8 and now owning a Super Duke GT, I was daydreaming one day about doing exactly this. I wanted to put the wonderful Super Duke LC8 in the great frame and chassis of a RC8 and take it to the track. If I had money, I would do it. I do agree the RC8 had no business on the road. It was 100% a Track Monster! I always wanted to track mine, but she was the last of the Orange ones. I had no interest in destroying it with a track day crash.

    I appreciate that us simple folk know precious little about motorcycle design, but KTM customers and just about everyone else has been salivating over the thought of a 1290 shoehorned into an RC8 package FOR YEARS! 😍😍😍 come KTM!!!!! They could just be cutting out the middle man and developing a V4 on the QT? 🤔😁

      Well, unfortunately most folks didn't know about the KTM RC8R Race Spec put out in 25 in 2011 and 25 in 2012, I got one of the very last new ones on the showroom floor. it was 378 lbs full of fuel, and I was friends with Ty Howard, and he put in WSBK spec cams in mine, then EDR tuned it to 176 rwhp, and 96 lbs-ft or 129 newton meters! Here's me on a Friday practice before racing Saturday and Sunday th-cam.com/video/eHLQG2lLJM4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=whq17ak_1L9sqhcR Here's my favorite draft pass because my side exhaust exited right side (also Race Specs also only used total of 2 spark plugs, that's easiest way to know plus quick shifter) and was bouncing off pit wall, so Jeff thought I was gonna pass him on right LOL He said it felt like a jet powered Mack Truck blew by him hahahahaha th-cam.com/video/YQkm2TOXZHA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=2ZH8Rp9Q4ywpiztC but the real Maestro was Ty Howard himself th-cam.com/video/M87LTVWg6YQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=z-ZWi5tVCajoT8I1 Hope you enjoy

    life long biker here and i decided to stop riding as i was being run over by a truck last weekend...the only reason im still here is full gear but still have extensive injuries...im unsubscribing all my motostuff and it deeply saddens me but i thought if i could get through to one person to gear up or another to give up the two wheels i could save someone from the type of pain i have now

    • @bhaddock9277
      @bhaddock9277 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry to hear about your I injuries. I came off a FJR1300 just after Xmas and was unbelievably lucky as all I had was a very bruised hip and felt stiff all over for a couple of weeks. Hope you recover. Like you, I'm very vocal about protective riding gear. I would have had back injuries had I not been wearing an additional back protector under my jacket as I slapped down hard on my back. Wish you all the best from Scotland.

    • @bhaddock9277
      @bhaddock9277 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've been trying to get my friends to get smaller bikes as there seems to be pressure on riders to have the fastest and most aggressive bike possible to be a "real biker": That's why there's so much death and injury... As if there wasn't enough danger on the roads already from other vehicles. I had a 90 mile commute last winter on busy motorways, filtering for miles every day through the slow moving lanes of motorway traffic. Hated every time I did it as the consequences of making a mistake were so grim. When I did my last motorcycle commute I was very aware of how lucky I was to have come through the other side of it unhurt. I don't take safety for granted.

    • @wiwwee1
      @wiwwee1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      larry burroughs
      There is a bit of truth there since the RC8R lacked top end and top speed against it's new rivals.
      But... The 200+hp bikes are made for World Superbike Racing.
      Racing merits in turn help to sell bikes.
      But on the street you don't need 200+hp or 180pph/300kmh speeds.
      Where the Fook are you really going to use that much power or ride that fast ?
      No where.
      Even on track they need electric gizmos to help the bike to stay upright and put that power down.
      Well actually the electronic gadgets LIMIT the power to make the bike go faster.
      They have too much power for mechanical grip to cope with even on super sticky racing slick tyres.
      So definitely don't need 200hp for the street.
      It's nice to have that option though since the stupid things in life are sometimes the most fun.

    • @wiwwee1
      @wiwwee1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Another thing.
      Have you noticed what has happened to bike prices after BMW came along and started the electric gizmo + hp wars.
      How much is the new GSX-R, Fireblade, R1, Ninja 10..
      Even the Japanese bikes that used to be more affordable are pretty damn expensive now.
      Fireblade SP is the same money now as a Ducati Superbike.
      That's not what we want is it ?

    • @bilalamarumosi8282
      @bilalamarumosi8282 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      wiwwee. I have a cbr 600 and a s1000rr. I have a blast on both. Where the s1000rr has the advantage is in the upper revs. Down low they're almost identical in pull. Now as far as power goes, I think its all relative and depends on the rider. A heavy throttle hand will get anybody goin 100+ in no time. I took my zx10r up to about 185 on the street. Mind u at 2 in the morning. Lol

    • @wiwwee1
      @wiwwee1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      larry burroughs well that is just not true.
      The CBR 600 does absolutely nothing under 8000 rpm.
      The liter bike version has descent pull down low.
      Makes me think you actually don't have both bikes.

    • @bilalamarumosi8282
      @bilalamarumosi8282 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      wiwwee HOW THE HELL U GONNA TELL ME WHAT I DONT HAVE? My cbr is a 2003 with a full exhaust and aftermarket sprockets so it DOES have more pull down low than stock. But you know more about my bikes than I do.

      Thanks Simon. We've had a few people asking us for prices in their native countries but, unfortunately, it would get a bit silly to start giving prices for every currency; dollars, pounds, euros, rubles, rupees, zlotys, etc, let alone trying to find those prices from here in SA. Merely converting from Rands to other currencies using exchange rates would not be accurate as import tariffs vary from country to country. In the UK, you have some of the best motorcycling press in the world so they are probably your best source for prices.

    KTM wants to focus solely on MOTOGP, and not on WSBK....which whether you agree or not is the driving factor behind most manufacturers developing a superbike.
    However, once they taste success in motogp, they will definitely sell a replica of RC16 to wealthy folks.
    So KTM fans all is not lost...

    I've heard of people putting RD350 motors into the 3MA and 1KT TZR250 frames. Also 125 and 250 2 stroke frames with thumper motors back in the mid 90s were a thing for Super Single short course racing. There's also a guy on TH-cam called duckman vw or some such who's doing a hot honda CR500 2stroke mx motor in some small gp bike frame iirc thing seems like it'll be quite a track beast. Personally I wanted an RC690 or 790 but that'll never happen now. And Aprillia really should have made a Shiver 1200 with the Dorsoduro/Caponord 1200 twin. That motor with some holes in the airbox (and no other mods) pushes more torque than the 1290 motor in this RAD Moto race bike. Pity about the terribad computer system tho 🤔

      Because it was launched in 2008.
      After that BMW released the S1000RR and then all the other Superbikes started competing with power.
      The RC8R wasn't competitive anymore because other bikes in class had much more top end end top speed.
      On a street bike that makes no difference what so ever but sadly numbers and racing results sell these bikes.
      RC8R didn't sell.

    No disrespect, but KTM has more $ than my favorite Aprilia so why don't they (KTM) develop a V4? The twin is great for the road, stop wasting time bumping up displacement, there's nothing there to gain (with a twin). KTM needs to develop a V4. I'll still hold tight to my RSV4RF though, the APE is the king until it is not.

    200++ hp in a chassis lightter than a 250cc? you could do it, with a 2 strokes. so much power, so little weight.

      yeah carbon is the answer to all the weight issue :) oh i think 144kg might be the dry weight, they say its 170kg-ish wet. And still, those 500cc two strokes weighs only around 130kg wet. imagine that with the violent powerband, yikes.

    Which is better? one that can idk sustain the weight you own ! :)) sorry im not hating the fat people but i think you guys should just get a proper diet and when your weight gets to normal levels that don t kill the suspensions of bikes .. just stick to JEEP!

    KTM really needs to revive the RC8R. 200hp bikes should not be on the roads? Ummm you make street legal dirt bikes 😂😂😂 so get yourselves a new CEO, bring the RC8 back please. For god sake. What about all of the other Japanese bikes? And the Italians? I, hoping to get an RC8 here very shortly. It’s a bike I’ve wanted for so long, but a lot of people are selling the, for stupid expensive
