Thig's short-lived role was most definitely because of Frank Oz's outspoken hatred towards performing full-body Muppets. He never really spoke about his role as Thig, but does mention that those roles were never supposed to last long.
That's really interesting-I never knew that-but to be honest, when I first learned that Thig was played by Frank Oz, I did find it kind of weird because I couldn't really recall any other full-body characters he's played...now i guess i know why!

Thog is a very gentle and wonderful frackle, I wish that he and his partner Thig would have their own short or make a speaking appearance in some future muppets movies or specials.
Correction: Cosmo Scam was played by Art Carney-I accidentally said Harvey Korman, who appeared with Thog on the Muppet Show. My deepest apologies for saying the wrong 1970's tv comedian lol. Those two are forever intertwined in my mind because they both appeared in the Star Wars holiday special....

I love Thog, but it can't have been easy for the writers to find things for him to do, especially when Sweetums is the more personable of the full bodied Muppets. The costume itself seems very limited too, it's pretty impressive how Jerry Nelson could dance in it.

So about what you said about the removal of the Monsters Segment of the theme song in Muppets Most Wanted, well it wasn’t shown in the theatrical or the extended cut. if you find the B-roll Behinds The Scenes Of Muppets Most Wanted, you can actually see that the monster segment was Atleast filmed and did feature thog, (he even had a fancy tie) recommend checking it out.

Honestly, if they add him in any spin-off videogame like Disney Heroes Battle Mode, I would welcome him with open arms and give the spotlight to a character that isn't well knowned
I’m not surprised Thig disappeared off the face of the earth since Thog’s inherently cuter and more stand-out (I think it’s the ears) and you don’t really need them for much. Full body puppets don’t come up a ton of the time, Sweetums definitely fills up the space fine on his own, and having two like Thog isn’t usually needed for what they do.
Minor quibble. There was one other piece of Thog merchandise made. In the Shrinky Dinks Muppet Show set which allowed you to build the Muppet Theatre, among the vast Muppet cast you got with it, was indeed a Thog.
There was also a thog ornament made in the 70's-gonna do a video later on down the line where i go back through all of my episodes and add things i missed, thanks for letting me know!

Is it just me, or does Thig look a bit like Sweetums? Thig is rounder, and of course green, but looking at Thig's face, I can't help but see Sweetums. The eyes, nose, and mouth are fairly similar. Maybe Thig was repurposed into Sweetums much like a lot of other early Muppets were repurposed into other characters?

I think Thog has been slowly but constantly growing for his whole life. He grew 2 1/2 feet in 41 years, so he grows 47/64th of an inch every year.
