It’s just like that time the elevator at my apartment was down for 4 months. I was on the 5th floor and work 12 hour shifts. It took 80% of the building not paying rent one month until it was fixed to get them to fix it. People don’t care unless it affects them and it’s bogus

Yea right, I lived in an area were the HOA was abusive, trust me they will not lower the dues and they are quick to harass you but when it comes to them you need to be understanding

Property insurance companies usually do not take that long to settle claims, especially when it's clearly covered, like fire in this case. They can typically begin repairs within a week. It is likely the HOA was trying to do something fraudulent with the claim.
Couldnt they sue for breach of contract.
So what they fine the HOA. What to Guess where the HOA gets its money to pay these fines from?
These HOAS are all crooked...my grandmother was fined 400 dollars for overgrown palms on her driveway
I live in a HOA property, my payments go up every year and nothing seems to improve. I will NEVER do it again.

The entire community needs to file a class action lawsuit for dues refund AND punitive damages AKA fines to the HOA. If the residents did something, the HOA wouldn't waste any time issuing them fines-What good for the goose is good for the gander!

Fining doesn't make sense in this case, because the home owners will have to pay for the fines. They should hold the HOA leadership in contempt.
When people sign an HOA contract, if they--need--to live in one, they should add a clause that if they fail their duty that they be fined (thus dues reduction).

any normal person would have got a $5 pipe cap from home depot or lowes and capped that pipe the day after the fire. but when you have a bureaucracy it takes TWO MONTHS to approve a $800 repair.... the 20,000 gallons of wasted water could have filled the pool... when you have residents paying all the HOA fees to use the facilities they are supposed to start repairs right away and work with insurance throughout the process, not wait months and months to get the check and then spend months and months not doing anything with the money...
Soo sad this is definately one of the many examples of why i would never live in a community that has and hoa
Instead of pointing fingers at each other, use your energy to let the HOA know that they either fix the problems in your community or face serious jailtime.

Yea stop paying dues and they put a lien on your house, if you stop paying dues at around 3 months they send you to collections and add about 500 dollars if you still don't pay they type a letter from there attorney and add a hell of a lot more fees and interest ! I went through this and there's nothing you can do they are not governed by anyone
@@michaelmarquez6133 They are an example of why we need regulation. I'm not for bureaucracy but it seems like some people can't do the right thing unless it becomes regulation. It's really sad that we have to pass bills for homeowners to get any kind of remedy.

Worst possible advice to give, unless you want to lose your home.
If it is that hard to repair a wall, plumbing, and a pool none of the people involved should be working for the HOA.
And he'll be paying for the fines through increased dues lol

A comment below states it perfectly. Homeowners unite and just stop paying dues until the HOA honors the HOA agreement to maintain the property. Or, simply ban together in a class-action lawsuit. I believe it's called a "homeowners" association for a reason.
We, the general public need to quit acting like a herd of cattle going to slaughter or walking the green mile for a crime we didn't commit.
We need to stand up and tell tyrants to kiss our ass. Majority rule, homeowners rule, not a few people in the HOA.
Other than mowing lawns, maintaining communal areas, and making sure there aren't any cars up on blocks, or six families in a house, the Association needs to stay the hell out of people's business.

An audit needs to be done and a refund of hoa fees needs to be given back to the owners due to lack of amenities

If a proper reserve study had been done, money in the reserve account should have bridged the gap between fixing the pool and the time the insurance check arrived . The board missed the boat on this one big time .
Why anyone would go through an HOA is beyond me
Maybe you buy into an hoa because you have several homes around the country and don't want to deal with the daily maintenance at each property and you don't want to hire a landscaping company to take care of your yard
It's hard to find a home that does not have an HOA anymore. So if you're looking for a house, good luck finding one without one
How would you feel about the next door neighbor painting his house orange, parking his RV on the landscaping, if there is any, and working on his car, which has been on blocks for several weeks now?

I honestly don’t get it. Isn’t an hoa board hired by the people?? How does the help run all over the homeowners??? They cannot be fired or held responsible? This is the most nonsensical thing ever.
They all should be ashamed. Its not an excuse. We had a terrible fire, after a few months of our insurance refusing to give as money for the damages and going back and forth. we took the matter into our own hands and fixed up our house ourselves. in less than a year we were back. They will retaliate when they see this news report. HOA’s should require 75% of homeowners to cosign on any enforcement. That would keep the cars on blocks and garbage out while letting people have freedom.
I get a kick out of these stories. The residents are the HOA. Instead of complaining he should of fixed it. A simple plug would fix it
I have no idea why anyone would ever get involved in an HOA. When the HOA’s are so hard to get along with who do you sue when your home prices drop by thousands and thousands of dollars because no one wants to get involved with HOA’s? What are these people going to do in another 20 years when the HOA fees are 4-500/month and no one will buy your property? These people are like druggies, they know the drugs will kill them but the still do it. They all know HOA’s are disgusting but they still bought a home in one of these places. And furthermore they (homeowners) do not own their homes. The HOA does, try not paying their outrageous fees and find out how fast the courts let them slap a lien on your home.
CAMCO and HOA board is garbage and never out for the residents only skimming money for themselves after having the pools at our complex refurbish last year; the same pool company that never checks the filters or equipment; rarely tests the water all of a sudden says all the equipment needs to be replaces for 100K and it just gets paid now our pool and gym shut down all summer for no reasonn
Haven't American's got a way to setup like an escrow hold where the dues are paid but held by a 3rd party UNTIL the HOA gets their shit together?
Renting over here if we have something that the LL/RE won't repair etc we have that option as technically you're still paying rent and thus not in breach. I think the government runs the service here for that situation. I've heard of similar happening for construction works too where deposit is paid, money is paid to holding 3rd party and forwarded to the construction company upon completion. It's basically an assurance of getting paid for the contractors but an assurance of the work being completed to standard for the home owner.
This is so stupid. Typical modern adult-children unable to do anything and prefer blaming someone for something and filming it than fixing it. That water wasted was that guys fault. Nobody else even knew about it and he let it run. All ne needed to do was screw on a god damn valve there. Ofc HOA did nothing for 2 months nobody knew.or cared about this nonsense.

Free water if you want to carry it home , in some parts of the world people will walk a fair distance for water. Now spoiled we have become! Lived in a home that had an outside well and no "running water " no hoa and neighbors over 5 miles away.
it would cost MAYBE $100 to pay a plumber to put an end cap on that copper pipe. a little solder, a $1 cap. or just cut the main if the building is out of use
This HOA is being held hostage by the insurance company that is slow to cut the check to make needed repairs.
First of all I have no plans on ever living out west, my next home will be off grid where there is no H.O.A. after watching all these videos on the hall of shame of H.O.A. I feel sorry for all the homeowners involved

I think if you’re you’re paying HOA fees take them to court to actually stop payment on your fees until they fix it because there’s fees are they’re charging you are supposed to be fees so you can have the privilege of the amenities the upkeep of the amenities that you actually actively used tennis court pool Jim’s anything that is actually a amenity and privilege that it is supposed to pay for grass cutting bushes that is actually should be stated in your contract with the H away because this person to list the things they actually are supposed to take care of that’s a reason you’re paying them those fees because you’re actually supposed to be taking care of that so you can have it for your enjoyment so if they’re not taking care of it, they’re already broken the contract, so you just need to basically take them to court so that the judge can actually stop the fees that you’re paying them until they fix it because if you’ve been paying your dues in your fees There should not be any disruption to your enjoyment of those amenities or if if it’s just one maybe two things they should’ve actually reduced your fees turn those months that reflect the non-usage of those amenities

When one closes on a house in an HOA community, they are required to sign a paper where they agree to abide by ALL the CC&R’s of the HOA. One is never coerced to sign this agreement. They are free to not close on the property and go elsewhere where this agreement is not necessary.

I once lived in an HOA managed by Camco. Worst management company I have ever been associated with.
Pools are extremely expensive to maintain and greatly inflate the cost of HOA fees. It would seem that with the pool area closed that money outlay would have been much less. Hmmmmmm.
