  • Let us fill you in with what’s been happening. After getting our Fijian cruising permit, we left Savusavu and sailed 46.5 nautical miles to Viani Bay on the eastern side of Vanua Levu to snorkel the Rainbow Reef, considered one of the best diving and snorkelling places in the South Pacific and is said to be the soft coral capital of the world. We spent a week anchored in Viani Bay enjoying its stunning landscapes. But the time had come for us to start sailing west, sadly leaving the remoteness and beauty of Vanua Levu behind. We will be sailing from Vanua Levu to Vitu Levu, and along the way, we will be stopping at Koro and Makogai Islands before making our way up the Broad Passage and eventually entering Vitu Levu’s northern reef. Yesterday we motor sailed 51.8 nautical miles from Viani Bay to Dere Bay on Koro Island. The next morning, we couldn’t believe our eyes as we woke up to the raw beauty of Koro Island and realised we were in the company of three turtles. This would have to be one of the best places we’ve ever enjoyed a cup of coffee.
    We hope you enjoy it!
As always, from the crew of Te Tāiko, thanks for watching.
Sincere thanks to Charlotte Rockstar Jones for composing and recording Te Tāiko's theme song.

A nomadic duo who traded land life for a life afloat. Follow us to see what we see and what it's like living a nomadic lifestyle. After spending 2.5 years exploring New Zealand's coastline, Tāiko is now a CAT 1 registered boat and we have made our first offshore passage sailing from New Zealand to Fiji where we currently are.
In December 2021 we moved aboard our sailboat Te Tāiko, a Chico 40. Tāiko is our floating home. She gives us the freedom to go anywhere the wind and weather allows. Our plan? We try not to make too many plans but we're currently in Fiji and will see where wind and sea will take us next. In the meantime, follow along with us as we navigate this lifestyle. We release a new video every Sunday.

Awesome Andy - thanks so much for commenting! The sand island was amazing, beautiful coral sand with crystal clear warm water! It would make a great pirate hangout :D

Good morning folks. You're not missing a thing up where you are. We have black ice in the Mckenzie basin. A couple of tour buses skidded off the road, there as well. Cold weather. Yeah as I was saying, "you're not missing a thing." ABs 47: Fiji 5 in San Diego. One off test. Thought I'd throw that in too. Thank you for sharing. Loving your channel. Keep on keeping on.

Hi there Bryan! Good to hear from you again! Wow it must be very cold there in the McKenzie basin! So pleased you are enjoying the channel. Yesterday a tentacle from a low affecting NZ reached out to us here and clipped us. The winds did a sudden 180 shift in the anchorage and picked up to 60 knts for about 20-30 mins. So we are staying in touch with the kiwi weather even from this distance :) We are starting planning our next ocean passage, to the west. All the best for now, Adam
