Actually it's from 1984, it was strongly considered for the Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers "Southern Accents" album, but they decided to go with Spike instead. Southern Accents was originally supposed to be a "Southern roots" album, and at one point they thought about making it a double LP, because they had so many more good songs than they could fit onto a single LP. Though Trailer didn't make the Southern Accents album, it was released as a B-Side for the "Don't Come Around Here No More" single (1985), and this version was also part of the 6 CD boxed set Playback (1995). Finally in 2016 it was re-recorded by Mudcrutch and released on Mudcrutch 2. So the above linked version is 30+ years older than the Mudcrutch version
Apartment Song, too. I think there was a concerted effort to not lean more Americana souding tunes. Ways to Be Wicked is like this off of the Long After Dark Sessions. Has a country lean to it and this was the 80s. Probably too much cocaine, too = bad decisions.
Agreed. He seemed to make the mistake of leaving clearly good songs off his early/mid 80s albums as opposed to the 2 per album that ended up on them. I blame cocaine. I like the duo with Nicks on the original, recorded in 1984. He tucked onto Full Moon Fever 5 years later, but it would have worked well with this one on Southern Accents. It sort of captures that young, poor couple trying to make it in the South. He's got some other unreleased tunes that fall into that same vein like God's Gift to Man. Should have been another that should have made it, even if later on from the Southern Accents. He gave away songs with help from the great MIke Campbell like Boys of Summer to Don Henley and then soon after Ways to be Wicked to a good band who had a short run, Lone Justice.
Maybe I should have found the fellow who wrote this song;since he was doing a giveaway contest, instead of doing the leg work/mama mia path by myself..Nah..Did that fellow really buy a chic a trailer?Crazy man....Ain't no man can change the shape my souls in ;) ..
Another criminally underrated song by Tom.
3 years later still here jammin
This song rips out my heart in a good way
I will miss your music and style, r.i.p Tom Petty.
Back another 4 years later. Still listen to petty all the time. This is still one of my favorites
This is a top level song! This is a secret hit!
Probably his best song - the emotions are behind the lyrics, only the ones who have been hurt will pick what I am referring to here
A great song that I have missed... thanks for posting!
This shouldhave been one of his hits...
Thanks for uploading this... I've been looking for it for years
Trailer - Lyrics and Music by Tom Petty
She graduated high school I bought her a trailer
In a little park by the side of the road
I could've had the army, I could've had the navy
But no, I had to go for a mobile home
Yeah I guess, I gave it all for you, babe
There wasn't room in that trailer for two, babe
I kept up with my interest, I kept up with my payments
She never said goodbye, I never asked why
Man, we used to dance to Lynyrd Skynyrd
Boy she used to look so good at times
But I guess, I gave it all to you, babe
There's not room in no trailer for two, babe
Well I guess, I gave it all for you, babe
All for you and your trailer too, babe

Stan lynch days were great! 💔
This was my favorite song from Tom Petty. They say it would went to chart if he released it on the album. but they cut it #riptompetty
DoctorGTA I agree completely!!
wow soul mates ?
Glad he reworked this for the Mudcrutch album. One of his best, very underrated Petty tunes.
I used to listen to this cause I did a girl in a trailer 😂
Which is good because then it would have been overplayed and we would become numb to it, or at least, not admire it and appreciate it as much
Probably from 1974 when Mudcrutch first started. I didn't expect to hear the "Trailer" I know. Great upload!

Love this song thank you for posting
Should have been on Southern Accents, maybe between Mary's new car and The best of everything

Fuckin' great
dig it he has rerecorded it with his other band Mudcrutch it's on the album Mudcrutch 2
Both good versions but I much prefer this one, especially the "Buddy Holly" Guitar sound on the chorus. In other news Petty was a god.
I put both versions in my Petty playlist.
@@trfesok for sure
You need the extra 2 and a half minutes to recover.
Actually, I'm not sure how that happened. I must've been loaded.
(-:
I'm back 4 years later 😇
Tom Petty didn't write a B-side. He wrote a song!
Another of his better rock songs like Apartment Song which unfortunately gets overlooked by radio 📻

This shoulda been included on Southern Accents instead of Spike
Rock roll
