I'm getting a flurry of promotions for things Bruce Springsteen is doing these days (spring 2019). I really was moved to laughter and tears during the Kennedy Centre Honours, mostly by Michelle Obama who had exquisite timing; but having read Springsteen's autobio and also Dylan's I'm struck by the lavishness and baroque timbre of their writing style. Tom never wrote anything but lyrics to music and never spoke unless he had something to say and it was usually funny or funny and furiously angry about some injustice. I don't think there was anyone ever like him. And this is probably a good place to stop and say tx for your great post.
This song feels like the spiritual successor to his '89 classic single I Won't Back Down -- and yet, with no disrespect to the latter as I love Full Moon Fever... Scare Easy easily surpasses I Won't Back Down in most every way. It's unbelievable that Petty is topping his own incredible heights, nearly 20 years later. "I am a loser at the top of my game" has to go down as one of the all-time great lyrics. Petty really had some incredible stuff going on in '08-'10, with the Mudcrutch and Mojo sessions at that LA-area practice warehouse they had. Scare Easy, Lover Of The Bayou, Something Good Coming, and Trip To Pirate's Cove... dude was pushing 60 years old at this time, and making some of the absolute best music of his life. Magic.
The quality of this track is beyond amazing! I can hear all the instruments playing at the same time! What a brilliant band, and of course, Tom Petty is and will forever be the most prolific songwriter and performer of all time. NO ONE can replace Tom Petty!

What ever Tom put his time and effort into turned to gold . A song writer who can make you feel upbeat on any given occasion . Your music lives on mate
Not quite sure, there are too many occasions to consider, but I don't think that I have ever heard Mike play so beautifully and Tom look so happy and relaxed.
Just like love, life, god, and America, Tom Petty is and always will be forever in our hearts, souls, music, and memories. Thank you for all the hard times you got me, and many others through some tough times. God bless.
chip tmcc I am 59 and remember his first bands name was Mud Crunch formed in the early ‘70’s. After a few years the band was called the TP and the Heartbreaker. I also remember going to one of his concerts in 1976, the ticket price was $14.00 dollars for front row seating. One of the best concert’s, I ever had the chance to see. My High School years. Greatest time of my life. Time slows down for No One.
He was told by record label to become front man and not play Bass also they came in with this album first and the name Mudcrutch but the label said no to all and so the name change and line up in band and the whole new album as Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. These are old songs brought back by Tom and the band. Awsome work !!!!
I'm not sure how many people realize that Tom was the bass player before he became the front man. Mike Campbell and Tom Leadon were the original guitarists. Their first recording contract was with Leon Russell's Shelter Records
I love all you guys whose lives have been irrevocably touched by Tom Petty and his brilliant band. 2021; anniversary of his death Oct 2. I found this poem, attribution disputed here it is: Do not stand by my grave and weep/I am not there I do not sleep. I am the thousand winds that blow/I am the diamond glints of snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain/I am the gentle autumn rain When you awake in the morning hush/I am the soft uplifting rush of great birds in circled flight/I am the soft stars in the night. Do not stand at my grave and cry: I am not there I did not die. Blessings upon Tom Petty who was a stalwart brilliant generous man who transcended his roots and remained someone to respect for always.
I know some will think this comment way over-the-top, but to me this song ranks with songs like "You Don't Know How It Feels" or "Mary Jane" or even "Free Falling" or "American Girl" as one of his best songs ever. Ditto "Orphan of the Storm" and "Wrong Thing to Do," (from Mudcrutch also) these are such hidden gems. At nearly 60 years of age the man has still got it. And Mike Campbell must be one of the most underrated guitarists ever.
My love's an ocean, you better not cross it. Lyrics to live by. Love you Tom Petty. Thanks for all your musical talent. You will live among us forever in music.

Scare Easy - Lyrics and Music by Tom Petty (I think)
My love's an ocean
You better not cross it
Oh I've been the distance
And I need some rest
Yeah I had somebody once
And damn if I lost her
I've been running
Like a man possessed
I don't scare easy
Don't fall apart
When I'm under the gun
You can break my heart
And I ain't gonna run
I don't scare easy
For no one
Yeah, I am a loser
At the top of my game
I should have known
To keep an eye on you
I got a sky that ain't never the same
Yeah, I got a dream
it don't ever come true
I don't scare easy
Don't fall apart
When I'm under the gun
You can break my heart
But I ain't gonna run
I don't scare easy
For no one
Sun going down
On a canyon wall
I got a soul
That ain't never
Been blessed
Yeah and I'm a shadow
At the back of the hall
Yeah, I got a sin
I ain't never confessed
And I don't scare easy
Don't fall apart
When I'm under the gun
You can break my heart
And I ain't gonna run
I don't scare easy
For no one
And I don't scare easy
Don't fall apart
When I'm under the gun
You can break my heart
But I ain't gonna run
I don't scare easy
For no one

Great ending song for Apparloosa, couldn't have been better.
Superb song and movie
You will rock on forever in my heart Tom. God Bless.

Great song - great film. Appaloosa - Ed harris and Vigo Mortensen
Thank you, Tom Leadon. This project came out of nowhere to me back then. Still sounds like success to me. RIP.
You are gonna be missed Tom
Tom Petty is a perfect escape from lockdown worry. It’s my go to place to get through . I find myself smiling every time I watch him.💕🎩👑
This one gets me every time. Miss you, Tom.
What ever Tom put his time and effort into turned to gold . A song writer who can make you feel upbeat on any given occasion . Your music lives on mate
This song is on the soundtrack to the movie Appaloosa. Truly a modern western classic!
Not quite sure, there are too many occasions to consider, but I don't think that I have ever heard Mike play so beautifully and Tom look so happy and relaxed.
TP will never leave this planet. His presence is everlasting
Just like love, life, god, and America, Tom Petty is and always will be forever in our hearts, souls, music, and memories.
Thank you for all the hard times you got me, and many others through some tough times. God bless.
This has to be one the most awesome tunes ever !!! Describes me totally !!! 👼😇🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
RIP Tom. Today is a sad day.
Petty is at the top his game here for sure.
Tom's career trajectory was a very unique one in that he never really peaked.
@@brettcooper3893 SLOW AND STEADY FOREVER

If only
From Tom Pettys soul straight to your soul. Thanks for these beautiful musical treasures you left for us. RIP Tom and 💔
I just went through firestorm in Santa Rosa. This song helped. A lot!
Очень жаль, что мир музыки в наше время умер. Хочется вернуться в 70е, 80е годы где ещё были профессиональные музыканты в не фанерные бездари
When this song kicks in at the end of Appaloosa.....Magic
RIP TOM PETTY!
Am 62 years old and rocking for better part of my life....this is one of best songs I have ever heard.... RIP Tommeeee!!
chip tmcc I am 59 and remember his first bands name was Mud Crunch formed in the early ‘70’s.
Conrad Hodges Thank you Conrad for sharing something precious that no money can buy. God's speed to you sir!
correct
I just realized Petty on bass. Awesome! I am a bass player.
WishIcould showmyname A Rickenbacker Bass No Doubt... 4OOO series I believe...
My favorite Tom Petty song. And there are many. It follows the movie Appaloosa where I first heard it and instantly drawn to it.
FlexibleAtheist 696 that’s the first time I’d heard it too. I hadn’t thought I was much of a Tom Petty fan. Love this tune.
Gonna miss him so much.
FlexibleAtheist 696 Great song.... perfect for Vigo's character in Appaloosa
"Instantly drawn to it"........don't you love when that happens? :::))!!
The same for me: after starting Appaloosa end titles I'have been touched by the Tom' voice and the so distinctive band sound. What a pity! Ciao
"And I don't scare easy
Don't fall apart
When I'm under the gun
You can break my heart
And I ain't gonna run
I don't scare easy
For no one
!"
I am the sunlight on ripened grain/I am the gentle autumn rain
When you awake in the morning hush/I am the soft uplifting rush of great birds in circled flight/I am the soft stars in the night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry: I am not there I did not die.
Blessings upon Tom Petty who was a stalwart brilliant generous man who transcended his roots and remained someone to respect for always.
I love the band “Mudcrutch” for me this is one of they’re best songs. It says so much! This song makes me miss Tom Pettys beautiful talent!🥰🎸🧚🏻♂️
Rock Royalty right there.
Eli Selling ,,The REAL King of ROCK. TODAYS MUSIC SUCKS, PERIOD,PLAIN AND SIMPLE ! Not a one can hold a candle to Tom. RIP TOM
Still resonates.
That's the magic of music -
& Tom Petty.
Mudcrutch. So great. A more swampy sound. SOOOO good.
Tom and the band was the best halftime Super Bowl ever, no gimmicks #1 show so far vivid live pure rock !!
My love's an ocean, you better not cross it. Lyrics to live by. Love you Tom Petty. Thanks for all your musical talent. You will live among us forever in music.
Man that is just awesome. Whether with the Heartbreakers or Mudcrutch, TP just has that everlasting FM sound that just gently caresses the make of your head. What a beauty.
"I'm a loser at the top of my game"...LOL, He been readin' my diary? Talk about your all time misnomer of musical artists...Mr. Petty was anything but...Love and miss you Mad Hatter.
This was the PERFECT ending credits song for Appaloosa. I don't get why, but it really moved me.
Sounds like vintage Petty.
Perfect song from Tom Petty. ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
