Excellent performance. As for the people complaining...get a grip! I was introduced to the Alan Cumming version of Cabaret (the original run in the 90s) when I was a kid by their performance at the parade and that number was FAR more provocative than this. And none of my family complained!

Broadway performers doing what they do best. Always exciting to watch. Nothing Satanic about it, just very entertaining. Natalie Mendoza is stunningly beautiful.

What I love about this show ( and now I am seeing it in other shows) is that if the performers can dance or do what is required of them on stage then casting agents are not just picking the super slender girls.......I also saw Frozen on stage recently and the King of the two princesses was from African heritage even though the movie showed a white King and Queen.........I just like it that casting directors are choosing how well people can perform on stage and NOT that they look identical to the movie characters.

Macy’s knew exactly what the show was about, and SOMEBODY at Macy’s has seen the show, yet they still invited the company to perform. Macy’s/NBC also knew exactly what they were doing when they slotted the performance in that time. The show won 10 Tony’s, and NBC wants high ratings. It’s not like the cast wore anything different than the show’s normal costumes. All MR did was accept an invitation offered to them.
If you don’t know of the Moulin Rouge at this point, that’s your fault. This performance was so good. Stupendous job to everyone involved

@@Carmelide kids under 6 aren’t permitted in the theatre to see aladdin, nor frozen when it was on broadway. kind of an irrelevant point when that’s a pretty general rule across most theatres that has nothing to do with the content of the show.
I never even heard of Moulin Rouge until I saw it in drama class in my junior year of high school. I loved the movie. Kind of confusing but I loved it! Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor did a fantastic job!
@@Carmelide I doubt the kids 6 and under understood what was going on, let alone will remember. I hardly remember anything when I was 6 years old. Also, when I saw the movie Moulin Rouge, I didn't really know what was going on, despite what a great movie it was. I had to buy it on youtube and watch it several times to understand what was going on.

This was a great performance, though I feel bad for Natalie! Normally they try to give them warmer versions of their outfits for this event, so I’m surprised they did the costume change here. She must have been freezing!
They used to... I haven't seen them wear warmer outfits since either Little Shop of Horrors or Hairspray during the early to mid 2000's. I don't remember because I only saw clips of them.
True. They used to but now they don’t.. but i was there that day and it was actually quite chilly and not really cold so maybe that helped
so many people on facebook were saying how they disapproved of this and someone even said they didnt like Six, like its a musical about history, they didnt like how it wasnt family friendly

I saw this performance when I was watching the parade and it was fantastic. Natalie Mendoza and the rest of the cast did an awesome job performing this amazing musical number.

These folks have every right to promote their show at such a big event, especially after a shutdown/pandemic. Moulin Rouge! doesn't have to be your cup of tea, but you don't have to be pissy, lambasting and prudish. Even though it isn't necessarily for the Sunday church crowd, there are worse things young people can view. At least this performance is relatively PG. Anyhow, bravo to the talented performers. Glad you're actually able to perform in your show. Also, shoutout to Natalie. It's nice how a replacement gets to perform at a televised event in a Scott Rudin-incriminated world.

@@Carmelide please fact check before because a lot of broadway shows don’t allow kids under 4/6 into the theatre. Aladdin and frozen - two DISNEY musicals - included in that list. It’s for respectful purposes of the audience and cast since most can be distracting at that age.

You clicked on the video, watched it, and then commented on it because you WANTED to, no one made you watch this. @@HopeKing As you can see that’s skin coloured fabric. Everyone in the show is always covered, kids see worse stuff on the LA streets normally.
@@HopeKing You have some really fancy lingerie in your closet then! Those were hand-crafted, professionally designed, dance costumes, which utilized a lot of flesh-colored fabric. Any public pool or beach will easily have MUCH more exposed.

To anyone say this is too risqué, why can’t we use this to show women to be proud of their bodies rather than having to hide them away! Bodies are bodies. We all have them so why not teach our kids to be proud of them
Because the chorus girls are dressed like whores! If bodies are bodies why don't the men have diamond studded crotches. I don't blame the women they have to make a living and they are talented, but I'll bet you dollars to donuts a man is signing their checks. This kind of thing is what started the Womens movement in the seventies and why Miss America doesn't have the swimsuit competition anymore.

@@mrsssmlllaie4402 I'm not a prude and the costume was beautiful. I just think for a morning show the chorus girls could have done away with the garter belts and maybe worn fishnets. And Miss Mendoza could have kept the first costume on (although maybe it would be hard to dance). I would not be adverse to seeing this in the theater, but a cardinal rule in show business is know your audience and in this case I think the producers forgot that. The women did not show more than you would see on the beach or an ice skating competition. But the whole intent of the number was to sexualize the women in the context of the Moulin Rouge, all that seemed to be missing were tassels. I believe a PG version of that particular outfit should have been made for daytime television.

Read up on "The Moulin Rouge" it was a place for courtesans to ply their trade. Courtesan is a fancy name for a prostitute and so you don't have to look it up lingerie means underwear. So in my book a woman who wears her underwear in public (not a fashion show) is a HO!

Let us say for argument's sake that RuPaul is the most renowned Drag Queen in America at this moment. In all the years that I have seen RuPaul around the city and on TV he has never been vulgar; And that is what the parents at the parade felt the number from “Moulin Rouge” was. It was glorifying prostitution which is still illegal in the majority of our states (I think the way it is handled in The Netherlands makes more sense). Children nowadays know the difference between genders and are not bothered by transgendered individuals or if a boy is dressed as a girl and vice versa. What the performance and the the costumes were expressing is that if you have P….Y you can make money with it. As dazzling as the show might be in the theater this number really had no place in a Kiddie parade.

Pretty much everyone lip sings for the parade for a few reasons; singing in cold weather is pretty bad for vocal performance for one, but also coordinating the audio would be a nightmare. The artists do however record their performance beforehand so it is their real voices that you hear

All performances (at least the broadway ones) do. They have been for decades. It’s unhealthy for performers to sing in the cold and it helps so everyone can hear.

Why is she lip syncing?
most parade performances are lip synced - for various reasons like it's very early/cold/usually windy so their voices may not be at their best, plus it's a bit of a logistical nightmare to mic every performer when there are so many for just a 3 min performance. they do pre-record the vocals though so the audio you're hearing is the same people who are performing!
She should've worn a coat over that outfit then take it off for a dramatic reveal.

natalie mendoza seems decent, but i hate this mashup so so much. and it is silly that they keep doing performances that do not have aaron tveit when he is the biggest name in the show (which i realize is not saying much for this type of event, because this is not targeted to broadway lovers but still.).
babe he Chose not to do this performance, as did a few others in the cast (so there are some swings in this performance). If you’re such a big fan of aaron let him have thanksgiving off in peace.

It’s a very good performance, but Prostitution, although it makes for some very interesting art, is obviously not a family subject. It’s Thanksgiving and the wholesomeness is completely out the door. Kinda sad that people think this was a good idea. Kinda weird too, if you want to watch a family event on Thanksgiving, you can’t watch the Macy’s Parade…
The show is very much a PG-13 Musical. So the only numbers I would think are suitable for daytime are Your Song and Shut Up & Raise Your Glass.

Well I for 1 didn't like it. Fine show good for adult audience. But this parade is for families. My young grand children were watching that. Wich felt like a strip tease show and had nothing to do with the holidays

It’s cold out, if you sing in the cold it’s really hard on your voice
All shows that perform on the parade have to lip sync because the time and cost and labour of mic-ing and tech-ing every single company passing through is a logistical nightmare. Not to mention trying to sing full-out in cold and unpredictable weather can be dangerous for a performer’s health.
Nice rationalization, except that the temperature in NYC today was between 60-65, warm enough to be scantily clad.
Being a dancer on Broadway these days requires shaking the booty, spreading the legs and sticking the crouch out. Something strip clubs are famous for doing.

Bad choice to perform these song. They’re more upbeat songs in this show. Also whenever you hear Single Ladies you immediately think of Beyonce’s video and dance steps. Maybe in the musical makes sense but here was just terrible.
