  • A story with a twist in its tale set in Venice written by an American master of the genre from the mid 20th Century. The language is amazing-Russell was an exceptional writer of baroque prose. You probably won't see this one coming

Ooo thank you for this. I can't wait until this evening when I can settle down to listen! I do enjoy Ray Russell's stories. Unholy Trinity is one of my favourite books with three wonderful stories by him - Sanguinarius, Sardonicus and Sagittarius. Sanguinarius being my favourite!

I've listened to Sardonicus and really liked the mood of it, but didn't know the author. Thank you for the somewhat unintended recommendation/help, I'll be looking for the book now!

@@colemarie9262 Unholy Trinity is quite difficult to get hold of I think but there's another another collection called Haunted Castles which is easier to find. It contains the three 'S' stories along with the one beautifully read here by Tony and Comet Wine, The Runaway Lovers and The Cage.

Ohhh, this is good! Great job, Tony!
Interesting story. I hoped, at first, it ended with Carlo/Carlos yelling to the sky, his head thrown back. However, the question as to whether the host was the baby adds another twist.
This is another well-written story. It is sort of tragic and sad, just like Sardonicus.
I love your discussions after the stories, especially when you mentioned "The Sweeper". Your narration of "The Sweeper" is fantastic. I like that one too!
    Thanks, and great job!

Beautiful scenery. Beautiful people. Similiarity with the painting of adam and eve. Here carlos was the snake that slowly pull them to their downfall. At the height of their love, tragedy strikes. Their love story was a precursor to their tragedy.

I recently read a book in which the son wanted to fly, and the father referred to airplanes as toys or a passing fancy that wouldn't last. LOL This is a terrible story, Tony. That's why it's so good, I guess. Thanks for all your stories. Looking forward to the next one...

I really enjoy the stories you choose and the pacing and tone of your voice. The one thing I would say, ( and I'm sure this is my own idiosyncracy, and not a popular opinion), is that I have difficulty listening to the type of microphone that picks up every little noise the mouth makes. That's my only issue.
