Nah, spend a night in the woods foraging and carrying logs for shelter and warmth, then try it in deep snow after sitting on a couch for 3 months. Some degree of fitness is needed lol. But yeah squatting 10k has limited applications
'' Or worse yet, what if someone asks you to help them move home?'' That was probably meant as a light aside? But having helped someone move home, I found it one of the most taxing experiences of my life. You never seem to find a balanced centre of gravity. You are working in a limited space and sometimes have obstacles to lift over. Then come the stairs and the lady of the house screaming at you for breaking some ornament. Blissful relief is only found on the Chiropractors table.
One underrated skill is to blend into any subculture and find who you can trust among sketchy and desperate people. I've seen it quite a bit how rich or poor stick out like a sore thumb and are visible uncomfortable among their environment. I've once dragged a self-taught hacker to a University for a seminar on IT. It was fun to see how much of chicken he was entering the university despite it being open access to anyone interested and him usually breaking into places online where he should not... (my idea was to guide him to a path where he can make his passion a job and legally so). I've also seen some amazing people who could find rare things barter and sell like few others. In case of a financial crash these abilities would come in very handy...
The funny thing is, that this is essentially what I have been doing for a good while. I call it "survivalist fitnesss", but I have been doing the other things outside of that window also. Focus, learning, spatial reasoning, martial arts and so on. I have neglected a lot of the running and strength in the last few months but I am taking myself out of that rut asap. I think everyone should engage in it, as well as traditional prepping, given the volatile state of the western world as is.
Yes, I train myself to be ready for just about everything. From fighting like being able to strike from all possible angles without readying myself or winding up or bracing to get power, sprinting on a drop of a dime, catching myself off balance, reflex training, sensitivity, low light to complete darkness, all terrain, extreme temperatures( I try), etc.
Being ready for anything has always been a goal of mine for working out. Whether it be pulling a 200 pound person from a burning car or just bending over to pick something up at an awkward angle, I always strive to be the guy that can do it all. I've been working on pull ups recently which has always been my weakest point being a bigger guy. I'm now up to 30 or 40 at a time. That's BIG for me, considering for 20+ years I couldn't even do 1 rep. Thanks for the content man, good stuff!
The longer I train the more my goals become centered around GPP. Started as a powerlifter, which was a great way to build a general strength and muscle base, but it can only take you so far.
Schopenhauer said people seek happiness by valuing one of three things over the other two: 1. What other people think of you 2. What you have 3. Who you are (He added that number 1 and 2 will certainly lead to suffering, and that number 3 was the best shot for happiness) This video made me think of this since this fitness mindset seems to be very in line with "Who you are'" whereas one could say bodybuilding is probably "What other people think of you," and powerlifting and/or strongman is "what you have (strength)." Probably a wild comparison but it's what this made me think of. I really like your philosophy towards fitness
Life as the real RPG: developing strategic traits and skills, and overcoming weaknesses through learning and adapting to each particular situation and scenario
Ive ordered the "Functional Training" book, and cannot wait to absorb everything in it. I have really been enjoying my own time over the last coupla months and want to see and feel myself improve in all kinds of fitness and mindfulness, and pretty much everything you say is a massive help and encouragement. So many continuous thanks to you for your incredible channel. By the way-- I hope the flood at yer house that you mentioned at the end of the video didnt do much or any severe damage.👍
I really enjoy your videos as they are Informative and inspiring! As a chronically unfit nerd I find your point of view particularly rich because of your focus on body AND mind as one thing. This may sound weird to say but for most of my life I have unfairly divided physical and mental dexterity from one another. Thank you for your help! And once again I would like to ask for a video about what a how monster hunting adventurer might train in their off time.
I am an old fart, and my physical fitness has saved me on a number of occasions. The most spectacular being when I landed catlike as I fell from a 15 foot mezzanine. I walked away without an injury, much to my surprise and that if the onlookers. Seems like the gymnastics I did was worthwhile.
This was one of the most extraordinary videos I have enjoyed. It has driven me deep into the cave of my soul to rethink: "Why...am I alive? Why....am I eager to get fit?" Thank you!
Just got your books... I actually do or have done almost all of this stuff... No wonder you're my new favorite fitness TH-camr! Really liking the look of the routines so far... I think it's really going to help me with my number one challenge I've been facing lately, which is: how can incorporate all of this stuff to cultivate myself in the ways that are important to me, into a routine that I do consistently enough to progress with it all, instead of being into Indian clubs for a few months, parkour/QM for a few months...lately, for example, I've been getting into kung fu exercises, but slacking off on gymnast rings and other forms of strength training...while also earning a paycheck and starting a new career. Because that is a lot of stuff to juggle, and juggling priorities is the absolute hardest thing for me.

Thx for this post! I think there is only one important issue overlooked: the ability to withstand pain (caused by injuries, meteorological conditions, hunger, etc), and then keep going until you can fix that - it is possible to train this also. Otherwise super great video.
My dad showed your channel. I'm currently in techschool for the airforce and watching your vids is very informative and from a fellow nerd and huge batman fan I enjoy your vids..
I'm truly amazed at the amount of knowledge you have acquired. You focus on the mind too and your videos are crammed full of so much varied information... Well done for producing top quality videos. I'm going to have to watch every single one now.
I would also include even tough it’s rather unlikely to be helpful: having the ability to take hits and give some. You just need to hit stuff with your knuckles for exemple to strengthen your punches or hit yourself or get hit by a partner to develop a tolerance to pain across any area.
Adding to this, you can train the bones in a very real way - Muay Thai kickboxers practice kicking trees with their shins, and shaolin monks do similar things with their heads.
Superb content and this is for one session? 😁👍🍀 I liked the pistil squat to box jump that was ridiculously great. Few other bits too, more than a few then, but what I feel is also a good add on is constructive rest from Alexander technique and the Alexander technique itself. As the men who invented it, FM Alexander, said, "get the means whereby". This is a first class thought to being in the state you're applauding, ie be alive with spirit and the physical attributes to match, ie a warrior part excellence. Also, I feel you're very eloquent which is another quality trait of a true scholar and gentleman. I enjoyed this video very much, thanks for sharing and I hope your home is recovered from the flood. With best regards from Liverpool.
7:35 Most people won't achieve great fighting skills while running and climbing all day long. You have to practice a lot of fighting to become somewhat decent at it. And its virtually impossible without sparring and heavy hitting. If you want to defend yourself you need to train defense. Climbing might help you to climb away from a danger. Running will help you run away or run into a danger. But even the very best soccer or basketball player can be completely clumsy in a fight. Train what you want to be good at!

This question in the title of your video is the question that I have been asking myself for the past decade. Also, if I am not motivated to workout, I remember this and I start to exercise right away. Thank you for this video, sir!

Thanks for this content, it's really thought-provoking and helpful! I hope you manage to get the flood in your house sorted asap and hope there wasn't too much damage.
Interesting and entertaining video! I myself am not training for a certain crisis in particular, but to stay fit and healthy as I age. Being a physiatrist I encourage people to train and to use compensation strategies ( both physical and psychological) to overcome their disabilities.

I started feeling my sense of direction atrophy, like you said. I no longer use GPS function on my cellphone. I'll look at where I'm going before I leave the house, try to memorize landmarks and references, and navigate without checking the GPS whenever I can. It soon came back to me.

I'm always amazed at how many parents rely on other to save their kids. Mainly at water parks, I see lots of parents who can't swim at all and still take their kids. Guess they hope the life guard is paying attention.
Parents need to think about how they can protect/ help their children more. What if you are walking down the road with your kid and a dog starts chasing you? Can you fight off that dog? Grab it and hold it down? Most importantly and more widely useable, can you pick up your child and run 100 yards with them at full sprint? Could you pick up your child and walk with them for several miles (essentially a ruck) if your walker breaks or you are on a hike and they get injured? Don't think about just fighting an attacker, think about fighting an attacker while protecting/ holding your child. Your child's safety is YOUR responsibility so train like it.
Thank you for this video, I really like the premise! I loved how diverse your categories are! To interpersonal skills, I would also add cooperation and intimacy in addition to persuasion. Persuading strangers is a very useful ability, but if you're planning on survival in the long term, you're gonna need to be able to build trust and have people who are in your corner no matter what. No one acts alone- athletes have coaches and team-mates, soldiers have the chain of command and their unit, special operatives have their moles and their backup. Being able to work together with others and love one another is just as important for our survival as are jumping high and fighting good

Nah, spend a night in the woods foraging and carrying logs for shelter and warmth, then try it in deep snow after sitting on a couch for 3 months. Some degree of fitness is needed lol. But yeah squatting 10k has limited applications
'' Or worse yet, what if someone asks you to help them move home?''
That was probably meant as a light aside? But having helped someone move home, I found it one of the most taxing experiences of my life. You never seem to find a balanced centre of gravity. You are working in a limited space and sometimes have obstacles to lift over. Then come the stairs and the lady of the house screaming at you for breaking some ornament.
Blissful relief is only found on the Chiropractors table.
You're like the renaissance man of fitness
You summarized why I train, including reasons and skills I don’t actively train yet. Fantastic video.
The longer I train the more my goals become centered around GPP. Started as a powerlifter, which was a great way to build a general strength and muscle base, but it can only take you so far.
@Carlo Mig Nothing is wrong with powerlifting.
I’ve crash coursed the last 4 years of videos in the last few months. G.O.A.T.
Schopenhauer said people seek happiness by valuing one of three things over the other two:
1. What other people think of you
2. What you have
3. Who you are
(He added that number 1 and 2 will certainly lead to suffering, and that number 3 was the best shot for happiness)
This video made me think of this since this fitness mindset seems to be very in line with "Who you are'" whereas one could say bodybuilding is probably "What other people think of you," and powerlifting and/or strongman is "what you have (strength)."
Probably a wild comparison but it's what this made me think of.

Your videos have such a thorough vibe to where I feel like I can fight a supervillain after the video ends.
I really like how this guy approaches the topic holistically. This is a really useful info.
I love this guy, always coming up with interesting topics instead of the same old same old like other fitness channels..
You buffed up during pandemic, while many people get fatter due to too much eating or thinner due to having less money to eat

This is the first channel I subscribed to without even watching a single video. I saw a reference in Shreddedsportscience. Boy am I not disappointed!
The best account on youtube! Always quality information and ideas! Keep them coming and never stop pursuing your greatest self!
Loved all the different functions talked about here!
Idea 💡: Could you do a video of all your meals including any vitamins, supplements? Your physique has been incredible and I am curious how you fuel it. #Eatforperformancenotpleasure
I love that #
Thx for this post! I think there is only one important issue overlooked: the ability to withstand pain (caused by injuries, meteorological conditions, hunger, etc), and then keep going until you can fix that - it is possible to train this also. Otherwise super great video.
Another awesome video. Thank you for all the great content. Sorry to hear about the flood, hope you and the family are ok
I haven't watched your videos for a long time, and WOW that's a real body transformation, you are huge 💪
4:20 Be careful with rope climb guys! If you don't already have a strong muscle development in the arms it can lead to serious elbows injuries
@@Joe-jh8po exactly, but my level of english got into my way for writing it in an understandable way.
Just not the head! But yes to bones and wolf's law. Weights also increase bone density. Even running does.
In karate they call this body conditioning
@@dontletmememandie6506 reading your comment I wouldn't have guessed English is not your first language!
This is one of my favourite channels ever, i appreciate you 🙏🏻
This list had some many seldom spoken of concepts. Loved it.
Wow, this really opened my mind to other important forms of improving one's physical and mental.
Loving all the film references, the cliff hanging scene is always what I am imaging doing pullups.
sorry to hear about the flood, wish you good luck!
Don't apologize , life happens. This was another outstanding video with great ideas. Please keep them coming.
You’ve gotten bigger Mr. Neer. Well done my brother from across the Atlantic💪🏼💪🏼Fantastic content as always. Namaste, in every sense of the word.
Skill and grace in physical movement is not to be ignored.
damn man i think you are the one coach i've been looking for, i always wanted to become good at a wide variety of situations but i couldn't find a way to, i simply wasn't trying hard enough, i will buy your books as soon as i have the money to, i think this is the first time i've saved the link to books i wanted to buy, because i know im serious about buying them, thanks
Friday evening? New Video upload from Bioneer? Cheers mates!
This is awesome. I just discovered you and have been binge watching your stuff. It rocks!
Man this is the the best fitness channel out!!!!
I've been wacthing your vidoes for some time. I tell you its one of the best real life training information for everyday life brilliant sas you are amazing you do all aspects of training mentally as well amazing keep it up 💪🏼 bless you.
This question in the title of your video is the question that I have been asking myself for the past decade.
Also, if I am not motivated to workout, I remember this and I start to exercise right away.
Thank you for this video, sir!
This channel is one of the best I've ever seen
This is my first time watching ur channel....
This video is so inspirational...
Straight away a fan✌️
Great video! I've had the Joe Rogan speech "Become the hero of your own story" (potentially paraphrased) in my head for a while now, and this is the perfect content to help do exactly that. Thanks for this content, it's really thought-provoking and helpful! I hope you manage to get the flood in your house sorted asap and hope there wasn't too much damage.
Long time watcher now I decided subscribe to channel,
You are awesome and the real Batman
Great Video. I always enjoy this topic.
Awesome videos! Thanks for always putting out great content
Getting better each time, amazing! I'm showing your video's to my students to make them understand more deeply what real fitness is.
wow! perfectly said, i never thought of some of these things you stated. love this.
Awesome video. I would love to train for pure function to be prepared for anything in life. I love this video.
Interesting and entertaining video! I myself am not training for a certain crisis in particular, but to stay fit and healthy as I age. Being a physiatrist I encourage people to train and to use compensation strategies ( both physical and psychological) to overcome their disabilities.
It was really helpful. I just experienced a low point in motivation, when I was asking myself why I am training, this video gives a great perspective, thank you :)
gymnasts and parkour people have the best skills to tackle the physical world.
I disagree it's mountaineers
@@SuperAbuDawud they came to mind after, but then i think, how much running and jumping can they really do. they handle thier weight hanging, but thats not all u need to do, expecially in an urban setting.
but i will still include them, cause they just need to do a few practices to get around, they already have near skill for it.
@@sMASHsound its the elements my dear brother 😊
I started feeling my sense of direction atrophy, like you said. I no longer use GPS function on my cellphone. I'll look at where I'm going before I leave the house, try to memorize landmarks and references, and navigate without checking the GPS whenever I can. It soon came back to me.
Great video on the why we should be always trying to better ourselves
I look forward to your videos every week, dude. Never disappointed!
2:09 video games can be very useful for quicker reactions depending on the game itself. Shooting games and sports can help with precision.
one of your best videos! I feel like knowing how to fast and conditioning while depleted, would also be key during certain emergency scenarios.
I recently stumbled upon your channel and it has become my favorite place on youtube almost instantly. Love that you're digging into all areas of training, you're a massive inspiration man. Thank you so much for the quality content
