Cash Savage and the Last Drinks - Sydney - June 3 2023

- The City Recital Hall seemed like a strange venue for Cash Savage and the Last Drinks’ return to Sydney. I was looking forward to its beautiful acoustics but knew people wouldn’t be remaining in their seats for long. The gig was one of eight across Australia, promoting their new album “So This Is Love”, their first in five years. Most of the songs reflect the emotional turmoil experienced following a marriage break up, compounded by the stress of pandemic lockdown. They are not happy songs but they are beautiful, full of feeling most of us can relate to. Unfortunately, I missed videoing “Seahorse (I’ll Be Your Rainy Day)”, my favourite song off the new album, and IMO, the best song of the night. I did however, capture three other songs off the album, along with three classics:

Cash Savage and the Last Drinks would have to be one of Australia’s best live bands; not only do they sound great but they’re always having so much fun while doing so. The Last Drinks are Joe White (guitar), Rene Mancuso (drums), Kat Mear (violin), Nick Finch (bass), Roshan Khozouei (keyboards), Dougal Shaw (guitar) and Ed Fraser (guitar). If only they received more recognition in their home country, we might get to experience their brilliant performances more often.

They seem to tour Europe more frequently than they tour Australia. Enjoy their concert. I know it'll be great.
Thanks for the upload, this was such a great show. Totally agree that “Seahorse (I’ll Be Your Rainy Day)” was the best song of the night, don't think I have been stopped in my tracks by a live performance like that in a long time.
I was disappointed not to record that song. It was on the top of my wanted list. I think I was thrown when Cash picked up the guitar and most of the band left the stage. Still, I got to enjoy it in real time, without worry about what I was videoing. Yes, a great night. I really don't know why this band isn't more popular in Australia. Thanks for commenting.

Thanks for commenting. Glad you enjoyed the video. One of the reasons I try to produce decent videos is so that fans who never have the chance to catch their bands live, can at least get a taste. Of course, it's never the same but it is something. I too enjoy watching live videos of performances I'm otherwise never going to see. I lived in SE Asia for many years and had to forego nearly all live music. I'm making up for it now. Hopefully, you'll see Cash Savage and the Last Drinks sometime in the future.
