These men ruled as young men, then they came back to rule as old men. When will Nigeria learn?

Inasmuch as I am not a fan of his latest administration, I must confess that 1984 was the only year I saw a semblance of sanity in the behaviour of our people. There was discipline and there was accountability. I was in the WAI Brigade then. I sincerely wish we had this version of PMB in the last 8 years.

@Joe plus ①②①⑨②⑦①②①⓪⑧, so you think I wasn’t born during his military regime? Stop making assumptions. I witnessed what happened under his regime so stop making caricature of yourself here. Aside from indiscipline that we lacked then and still lacking now, he curbed corruption, he introduced a robust foreign policy that raised the status of Nigeria. People like you lack foresight in recognizing the huge development he has contributed in terms of infrastructure as a civilian. No Nigerian President has ever done so much in that area than him with extremely limited resources. Can you tell me what the criminals that ruled/ruined Nigeria for 16 years achieved except outright stealing? Shame on you…

@@oluwatoyinabiodun1620 My dad was a unionist, and our house was an ESSENCO sharing centre for union members, so I am very familiar with that period. The period you described was late 1984/1985, not the beginning of his tenure. At the time, essential goods were scarce because of the import licensing regime introduced by the Shagari govt as part of the austerity measures to battle the 1981 collapse of oil prices. Due to Naira strength, (85 kobo to $1 and N2 to 1 pound at the time), it became cheaper to import goods than to produce them locally. Ships were stuck in the seas for months. That was the situation the Buhari-Idiagbon regime met on ground. So many of those items were scarce and had to be sourced from the warehouses at government-controlled price, or you had to go to the black market to buy them at several times the cost. You know what happens when there is scarcity of goods at government controlled price vs abundance of same at the black market (look at our fuel situation today). The issue was that many of those who got import licenses under the Shagari regime had abused the processes heavily and they were the ones who were diverting these goods to the black market. Granted, the regime did not do enough to punish those guilty of it. I am sure you know about the Umaru Dikko crating incident. Dikko was one of the largest rice importers at the time. He ran off to the UK when the military took over. The govt wanted to bring him back to answer charges over his role in the rice racketeering that went on then. You need to study our history to know how we got to where we are today.

Then Brigadier general Sani Sami was the military governor of defunct Bauchi State( including Gombe). The maitasine sect constituted insecurity then. Those days there was nothing like luxurious SUVs.

That was the real Buhari and Tinubu used him to deceive the pple for 8 yrs so that he can be president. The poor north thought same man was capable of changing things but instead got banditry, kidnapping etc. I sympathize with his blind followers.

Unfortunately the "War against indiscipline" was the Idiagbon and not Buhari, he was a figure head then and he is now. If you listen to the last interview Idiagbon did before his death, it became obvious that the policy was Idiagbon's idea and not Buhari.

Anyone interested in who Buhari actually is needs to go back further, start from mid 60s, civil war and onwards.
Compared to some of his counterparts, he was actually not that bright. A 3rd rate army officer really but soldier none the less. A lot of the so called "Generals" didn't do much to get that honour.
His was to obey intructions, then loyalty to the force first, then Nigeria. Lke most army officers (before Babangida introduced heavy corruption) he wasn't in it to make money.
This was no big brain, Idiagbon was the brain and action man in their adminitration. This is why you have seen inaction, ineptitude and incompetence for 8 years.
History is important people. If noone teaches you, go and look for it!!
