It's absolutely incredible how you managed to source so many photographs. Very well done! History is so easily lost and videos like this massively help to preserve it. When I worked in Ilkeston as a Trainee Solicitor (1974 - 1979) one of the taverns shown (which also offered seedy accommodation) was run by two gentlemen who 'batted for the other team.' The few guests they ever took in were - legend has it - in the main similarly disposed. In that era an extremely clandestine operation! I felt extremely uncomfortable visiting on business but was treated very professionally. Although the owner likely died decades ago I would never identify the establishment - an establishment extremely unusual for the 70s.
@@keishaboo5182 No flower, the White Lion was a pub at the top of what is now Chalons Way. You know the roundabout at the top with exits to Derby Road, Stanton Road and Nottingham Road? It was just there. The only rock/bikers pub for literally miles around. Spent many. many hazily-remembered nights there. Only jukebox in Derbyshire with Motorhead on it, and a great rock disco on Saturday nights. Miss it a lot.
But ............ we now have The Burnt Pig on Market Street. Tiny - but utterly, utterly brilliant. A proper back-street, old-school pub full of brilliant people, run by a brilliant landlord who seems to know every customer by name. My local before all this corona stuff arrived. All the best.
Could not see all of the names though. Although brought back many memories. But most pubs now resigned to posterity. Only a few specjfic locals remain .Nobody drinks or even socialises like they used to do.
