"Amadeus" shows up on lists like this a lot. It wasn't a biopic. It was based on a play, and was never meant to be anything other than fiction. Calling "Amadeus" an inaccurate biopic of Mozart is like calling "Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter" an inaccurate biopic of Lincoln.

It's funny and even pleasant how people in the west completely ignore the existence of Pushkin, because fuck that guy and our school curriculum that made 50% of foreign literature to be about him. He's SO obscure outside of ex-USSR, Fiennes family had to self-finance their Onegin adaptation, and Amadeus was marketed as a biopic rather than an adaptation of his Mozart and Salieri play)))

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is historical fiction, but outside of completely fictional main heroes everything else is extremely historically accurate until the ending, of course. @@LdyVder No, it's separate genre. Historical fiction is something like Walter Scott's Rob Roy, where the main character and his family are completely fictional, but the events take place around a real uprising, which characters take part in, and they interact with Robert MacGregor himself. Same in, say, Assassin's Creed games, where you drag Cleopatra to Ceasar or storm Bastille as some made-up Assassin... media with fictional characters meeting Da Vinci, Machiavelli, or Churchill, for example, are historical fiction, but are not biopics.

Sadly “The Conquerer” (number one) wasn’t just a terrible movie, it also literally killed most of the cast and crew!
It was filmed on radioactive ground in Nevada at a nuclear testing site because Howard Hughes (director and producer) insisted on it because he liked the way the cinematography looked. I feel like they need to invent a new genre in between biopic and jukebox musical, because Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman would both fall into it... And if it's not a straight "biopic" it doesn't **have** to be historically accurate, right? Although, frankly, I still find it weird to tell a true story wrong on purpose...

    • @kimberlyhaines107
      @kimberlyhaines107 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Rebecca - WatchMojo Elton John said he wasn’t make a straight biopic. He set songs to pivotal moments in his life, even if they hadn’t been written yet. Hence the film brilliantly closing on “I’m Still Standing” after he becomes sober when he actually wrote the songs while still doing heavy drugs. Doing a musician’s story in that way, where the songs tell the story, is inventive and enjoyable. Never mind Taron does all the singing in the film. It shares more in common with a film like “Across the Universe” than it does “Bohemian Rhapsody”.
And for quite awhile Sacha Baron Cohen was supposed to play Freddie Mercury (it helps that the man CAN sing and with a fairly wide vocal range), but I kept hearing he was clashing with the band on the portrayal of Mercury and the band. Show all aspects of his life, up until his death from AIDS, and they weren’t too keen on the idea. I honestly thought the movie was never going to get made. Still haven’t seen it. When it was released I was still recovering from nearly 2 months in hospital where I almost died, and then add in the inaccuracies...”Rocketman”, to me, even though they were released in different years, deserved the Oscar nominations (and some of the wins) that “Bohemian Rhapsody” received. Hell, it may have, but Hollywood didn’t want two years in a row of very famous musicians going up for a lot of awards.

But that's kind of his talent, he literally transforms into who he's playing. I personally hate his movies like Borat and Bruno, that's not my brand of comedy. But watch him in Sweeny Todd, or Hugo. He's great. This movie was supposed to be his leap into serious roles, and he was kind of passionate about doing it justice when he was originally pegged for it, but when he was made aware that they weren't going to dive into his sexuality or personal life and some historical details would be changed, he bailed. He was supposed to sing live too which would have been interesting. I know I'm critical because I'm actually comparing Remi to Freddie and that's not fair, Freddie is truly untouchable.

I have met several scizo people and they have very common problem, they don`t understand whether did speak the voice in the head or a real human. You can speak with some with scizo and he/she hears the voice same time. Thats can drive them crazy. Also the voice in their heads is usually aggressive and talking shit about everybody. Usually the voice reflects the fears of the person himself.

My honorable mention is gotta be Rush, a film that was based on true story of the famous rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda (which is my favorite movie based on F1).
The movie is somewhat follow well of the F1 season in the mid-70's, but some moments that it was forgotten or even inaccurate, like the racing in F3 (which in reality, Hunt was racing with other driver, not Lauda), the Japanese GP (when in reality, Hunt overtook Alan Jones, not Clay Regazzoni), the over exaggeration of the rivalry (which Hunt/Lauda rivalry shared a flat early in their careers and good pals together), the nickname of Nürburgring (its "The Green Hell" than "The Graveyard") and the movie's ending (where Hunt meets Lauda in a bike with flatted tire, when in reality, Hunt lost all of his money thanks to his substance abuse from alcohol, though Lauda had to help him out to give him a money and clearing up the addiction to be sober, then becoming F1 color commentator with Murray Walker that we all know and love before his death at 1993.)

Also regarding the Bohemian Rhapsody film, Cypher of Cynical Historian fame said that the movie claimed Freddie Mercury was gay, when in real life he was bisexual considering he had multiple male and female partners in his life.
I'd also like to throw my hat in the ring for Black Mass. I read the book in preparation for the film since I love the old time gangster stuff from what I remember the film omitted the meddling in the horse races, fixing them for the sake of a larger payout for a specific horse. Brutal as he was, Whitey Bulger hardly ever cussed that much, especially with his associates. The connection between him and John Connolly was established early in the book when an adult Bulger helped a kid Connolly buy some candy. Connolly, growing up to be an FBI agent based in Boston still kept an eye out for Bulger and it is true that he was charged with obstruction of justice by hiding Bulger's dirty work, but again he didn't swear that much and I don't remember them being that connected in the book. Connolly did give fair warnings to Bulger as the story progressed. I think they were having too much fun with some of Boston's stereotypes, only a handful of which represent at least 1/8 of Boston proper.

As upset I was watching Bohemian Rhapsody was in the theaters, with the hair and song difference from the timeline and the "break up". Movies take liberties. And that's a natural thing for them to do. Maybe there were tensions behind the scene, that might not have resulted in a full-on breakup, but could've very well had. And yeah, Paul wasn't AS bad as the movie portrayed. But I've seen a lot of sources saying that he betrayed Freddie before his death. So...who knows at this point. There was no need in Bohemian Rhapsody to "add drama" by making up a "reunion" for it. REAL STORY: Freddy purposefully put them at a weird time for the live show knowing that it'd be peak time for the USA. They rehearsed and reworked their songs to have maximum flow/efficiency/hype. Every other band showed up like it was a charity act, which tbf it was, but Freddy and Queen showed up READY TO WIN, and their performance absolutely shows that. Sometimes real history is more fun than the bs stories we get for "drama" sake.

Barnum, "The Conquerer" is about Ghengis Khan, etc). While "Pearl Harbor" is indeed about an actual historical event, the characters in the film are entirely fictional. It's like with "Gone With The Wind;" the story is set during the days before, during, and after an true event in American history, namely the Civil War, but Rhett Butler, Scarlett O'Hara, Ashley Wilkes, Melanie Hamilton, and the other characters aren't real people.

Where did you get your information? The King's Speech was based on the diaries and letters of Lionel Logue. He did call King George Bertie and he was with him during his speeches during the war. "You stammered on the W". "I had to throw in a few, so they'd know it was me". That was taken out of Logue's diary. They actually said that. And one time when they were discussing filmed speeches, George VI said "then I guess you will have to hide under the table, my dear Logue". His stammer wasn't as bad during the war but he still had it and having Logue nearby gave him a sense of confidence. You have probably only heard the edited version of the speech. In the actual speech, the king spoke with many pauses and the occasional stammer. So your claim that he was cured by then is as fictional as some of the movies on this list.

Contractual reasons negated using the real names of the Crickets, the number of Crickets, the timeline is skewed/compressed, NO mention of Norman Petty (Buddy's producer), NO mention of Waylon Jennings, NO mention of Bob Montgomery; hell.... they couldn't even get the proper spelling correct on the side of Papa Holley's truck - - they couldn't even be bothered to make sure they got the last place Buddy played correctly! Hamilton isn't completely historically accurate either, even the most die hard fans can tell you that, but people still enjoy it. Why? Because it tells a good story, and honestly, that's all people really want. I'm not saying that it isn't interesting to check the facts afterward. Here’s one biopic that really got it offensively wrong. I’m Not Ashamed, which is a fictionalized biopic about the late Rachael Joy Scott, who was one of the victims in the Columbine Massacre. The movie goes as far as alienating our main character into this self entitled, whiny, unlikeable “persecuted Christian” who nearly commits suicide for feeling “oppressed.” The movie also goes as far as having fictional characters & events, & also drowns the viewer in excessive foreshadowing. And those who existed are really out of character. I want to see I’m Not Ashamed in a future countdown of either the top 10 worst Christian movies, or another top 10 biopics that got it wrong.

I actually heard Rachel’s sister speak about her sister’s murder at my school. Absolutely terrible to hear the pain of a family who was one of many hurt by the massacre

Alyssa Black I do hope Rachael’s sister isn’t among those who spreaders their lies I’m Not Ashamed propagated. Because from I learned, the mother Beth Nimmo started the lie that her daughter was murdered for her faith in Jesus. That’s downright disgusting & disrespectful towards the deceased.

The funniest thing in Braveheart is that THERE IS NO BRIDGE IN THE BATTLE OF STIRLING BRIDGE!.. xD Also, while it was a few centuries too early for kilts, it was many centuries too late for face paint.

I've always thought that SpongeBob is just a retelling of Amadeus
