    For a director who often tackles historical figures, Oliver Stone must hate history because he’s never met a historical narrative he didn’t turn into near total fiction.

    • @michaelmcdonald8452
      @michaelmcdonald8452 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think that's a matter of "hating history" so much as prioritizing a riveting story over accuracy.
      I think a lot of people who complain about those inaccuracies would reject a movie that was purely factual as a boring trifle.

    Surprised Monster wasn't in the number 1 spot. The movie portrayed serial killer Aileen Wuornos as a sympathetic character and portrayed all of the events she lied about as if they actually happened. Like how she killed those men only after they assaulted her. Literally Wuornos herself later admitted she made all of those things up just to try to avoid being convicted... Yet the movie still tried to paint her in a somewhat sympathetic light. Total and utter garbage.

    For the most part, the criticisms leveled at these flicks seem less about performance and more about representation, how the characterization was crafted and how the performance was coached and guided. In other words, these are problems of production -- script writing, casting, production design, makeup, direction -- more than they are a product of the actors' performances. In all the cited enactments, I see it as probable that the directors drew out the performances they wanted to present from the script in hand. While I know that some actors may directly influence production, I doubt that was the deciding factor in any of these protrayals, considering how many good actors were involved.

  • @ShannonGrover

    WhatCulture chickened out in its presentation of the problems with J. Edgar. The problem wasn't Leonardo's performance-it was Eastwood's right wing whitewash of Hoover. Clint wanted us to believe that Hoover didn't get married because he didn't want to hurt Clyde's feelings. Horsedoody. J. Edgar was a gay man who hypocritically persecuted other gay men. He was also a vicious, and racist, blackmailer; another historical fact Clint didn't want to talk about.

    I would nominate Johnny Depp as Whitey Bulger in "Black Mass". He just wasn't right for the part, and the dyed-white hair and blue contact lenses were ridiculously distracting.

It was a letdown, low budget thing...still interesting but not up to the "ford vs Ferrari" standard...seemed like a made for tv movie...I tought that Lamborghini would put money for it to be as entertaining as the ferrari movie but nope...And i enjoyed "I saw the light", as i am a big fan of Hank William, good movie!

    Semi-topical, Agent Elvis was a lot of fun and McConaughy did a good job, but it was pretty uncomfortable how revisionist it was… like not that we were expecting accuracy, but changes like “Elvis wasn’t pro-war propaganda actually” or “Elvis also thought Nixon was a d-bag actually” was… icky.

    Cuba Gooding Jr in Radio, a stereotypical cartoonish caricature of a person with a learning disability. The film also packs in 20 years worth of events into a biopic that covers only a few months in real time. Hilariously bad.

    I saw jobs I don’t remember not liking it, it was okay, I think it depends on the biopic person too because the Elton John rocket man and the movie about queen don’t interest me, it’s a genre where you have to be interested in the actual person or company

    Wait, what? Hank Williams DIED at just 29? And they got TOM HIDDLESTON to portray his life up until that point? I mean, not being funny, but in what universe does he pass for even 29 years old, never mind younger than that?

    • @gottfriedosterbach3907
      @gottfriedosterbach3907 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      True, but Hank if you look at his pictures might guess anywhere from 25 to 45 if you did not know. I wouldn't say he was an old 29 per se, but he looked similar to a lot of folk of varying ages.
