Sam!! Glad you got your new mounts. Yep from the looks of the mounts on that motor. They look like Mercruiser mounts and not OEM Yanmar mounts. Give us a shout with measurements on your hold down bolts (center to center) and we'll get you setup!! Cheers!
Those Oceanic Innovation motor mounts were a great piece of mind for me on my Hunter. When I would build street rods I used the energy suspension urethane products and loved them . When I found that these and with stainless steel I was ecstatic.
As someone who has a rowed gondolas for a living for 24 years.I'm so happy you are in venice... I once had the honor of rowing the length of the grand canal alone without an other boat inside.
@@USA4thewin Seems like he has been with this one awhile, those Scandinavian girls are keepers! Omg I’m so happy I found him again!! Saw this guy a few years ago, loved his vids and couldn’t remember his channel name since then. Yayy he’s finally on my FYP again 🤩🥳
I had the same problem replacing my engine. We solved the problem by designing new engine brackets rather than modifying the boat's fiberglass engine mount.
Replaced motor mounts on sail boat last year with Oceanic mounts. They fit great and have performed well. Being stainless steal, expecting they will outlast the motor. Good sailing!
Hey Sam, just now saw this wish I’d be seen it sooner, I replaced the damper plate in my transmission on my 1967 Morgan 34 I was able to unbolt my prop shaft, and push it back and out of the way so that my transmission could come out, no water came in aside from the normal stuffing box leaks. Hope this helps, and as far as propping up your motor, you can put a board under your engine and use your halyard to lift it up, a little sketchy, not ideal but right up your alley
I just braced my PSS seal with a 2 by 4 and replace my motor in the water. It really doesn't need to be braced because there's no forces pushing the drive shaft forward that are that extreme
Hey Sam on your little refrigerator there there is a lock button that's the first putting you have to press and hold until it unlocks and then you should be able to adjust it. That is if you haven't already tried that.
Great video as always, I also have a boat a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 40. Great to see people out using their boats. Marinas are full of boats that hardly move. I could do with changing my engine mounts.
If the mounts are worn out the motor is probably sitting lower in the bay than it was new. Ride hight would effect the shaft angle that's what you need to concern yourself with. I'm cheap . I remember a broken mount that needed to be replace the problem was the motor mount was unobtainable. I made my own
Nicely done. Now I'm hoping that Oceanic has the low mount ones for Yanmars. On the smaller models I've never installed the type they send. I used to be the Yanmar distributor for Western Canada. So rather surprised. Boat does not have to come out of the water. Just unhook the coupling. those dang air bag pumpy things might be interesting. but easy to lever it up too.
I replaced the mounts in the water. It was quite simple to do. Remove all four lock nuts. Raise the engine as high as it will go on three of the mounts using the adjustment nuts. You should then be able detach the fourth mount and slide it out of position, with a little jiggling perhaps. If not, drop the adjustment nut down a little on the diagonally opposed mount. This will allow you to tilt the engine and give you the clearance you need. Just be careful that you don''t jam the shaft up against the shaft tube. You don't want to damage the shaft. Yanmar 3JH4E with OEM mounts.
Great video. We are in Salvador, Brazil, sailed from Mindelo, Cape Verde, being a good stop. You are going to regret not crossing the equator, respectfully suggesting an early January departure from Mindelo, making it to Salvador in time for Carnival in February. You might consider visiting the protected anchorage at Baia Do Aratu (S12.47, W38.27), approximately 10nm north of Salvador in the Bay of All Saints, Bahia, Brazil. It is shaped like a bowl, surrounded by low-lying hills, virtually undeveloped, probably the most protected anchorage we have ever been in, and the marina's community is safe.
In short, while AGM chargers can be used to charge lithium batteries, it is not recommended because of the potential for overcharging and damage to the battery cells. 🙏❤💪
Victron makes the perfect charger for the lithiums and it will charge AGM as well, can be reprogrammed through bluetooth do perform as needed, right up to and including being a 12v power supply.
I was looking at that one, but ultimately I got the Yamaha PSS -a50. I read it had the same keyboard as the reface, but it was cheaper and had more sounds and stuff. The CP does look pretty cool. Maybe I’ll get that once the a50 dies.
Yes Sam- those new motor mounts look too big for that space. Beefy motor mounts- just not the right application for your engine. Take some photos, grab some dimensions off the old ones- see what Oceanic Innovations has to say. Custom built for your engine only- they might not even make that type of mount anymore? I wouldn't wait too long however in replacing them- on the hard. By the time you get to that marina in Malta, Oceanic Innovations could send replacements to you and pick up these mounts in return all in one go? They get their products back and you get the product you need that fits your engine space limitations.
I’m surprised we disagree about the wisdom of dripless shaft seals. Regular packing costs pennies and never fails “catastrophically” which is the word used with dripless seals You can repack regular flax seals underway, with dripless, your screwed
Your a Big shot in Oriental, N.C.....Congrats on your progress....end of Month I'm Heading to Maine....... Almost ready I am..... Pretty Girlfriend buddy...,.Enjoy what the World has to offer....
Be careful with those hooks in rough seas. When in the spur of a moment you want to grab something just to keep standing, you just might pierce your hands in the process.
I think the vibration is the propeller they put on in Malta - over sized, wrong pitch - something like that - research that before you go back to that boat yard! (I was suspicious when the master came to you after it was installed by the team - and he asked you if everything was alright before you had it in the water (seemed like he was indemnifying his business with that conversation. I may be wrong - seemed like the right kind of boat yard, down to earth; perhaps just ignorance about sizing a propeller. :)
Every now and then you have to suck it up and put it up on the hard and get a mechanic to do the work. Some things you can't just cheap out on, you will likely find the local Victron rep can have someone sort out your electrics and do it properly. Nothing worse than when shit goes to hell in the middle of the Atlantic and the electrics fail and you ask yourself did I fuck it up, and it doesn't work when I need it.
I'm kind of surprised you elected to have a PSS shaft seal. What will you do when it fails? It'll be quite catastrophic, no? Hope you get those mounts sorted. They look like a huge improvement over stock.

Great video! These guys make custom mounts for odd-ball situations like yours. They really are pretty cool colors, and look stout!
Thanks so much as these are the only mounts we use now! The stainless steel and more rigid cushion mount is so worth it??
Would changing out the mounts (on my Westerbeke 25) have any beneficial effect in terms of noise or vibration?
They're free mounts.
