- Milk inside a bag of milk inside a bag of milk and milk outside a bag of milk outside a bag of milk (quite a mouthful) are a pair of super interesting games, about milk... and some other things.
In this video I analyse them and try to figure out what they're really trying to tell us about.

I loved your omori videos and im super happy to see you cover another of my favourite games. I think this is the best analysis I've seen of this game.
also - youve now covered lain, omori, and now milk, surely theres a yume nikki analysis coming some day right ? ;)
Your request is noted ;)
i haven't watched this yet but i am beyond excited to see someone cover these games - they're incredibly dear to me and i'm excited to see your takes!
I think you could also interpret the dynamic between the player and Milk-chan as being the dynamic between the self and the internal-critic rather than the unconcious
The player is a literal voice itself her head after-all, and it spends much of its time judging her but also trying to guide her, much as one's internal critic does try to guide you but can be easily colonized by self-hate
also, I think the stair-case ending represents that Milk-chain is so overwhelmed with all the chaos in her life and her shattered perception that the idea of doing anything in particular seems meaningless and out of her control. So she chooses to further lose herself and get worse as it's easier. Both ways seem like they're endless abysses, so she's not even making an effort to get better or ascend.
I think the inner critic is definitely a big part of the role of the voice, but at the same time I think expanding the interpretation to the unconscious is fitting here as it gives a framework under which we can understand more of the game.
The first point about the stairs I already agree with, but the idea that going up is the right way despite the abyss and that she chooses the easy path because she can’t see the difference is really interesting. Thanks for commenting.
@@DetectiveMar That is a good point. Though I would urge you to try out a different psychological lens other than the Jungian one, as I find people lean on Jung's theories too much. As for the game itself, I do feel like the player is distinct from the entire unconscious given the player's lack of knowledge of Milk-chan's issues. More of a piece of it.
You're welcome! Happy to find a youtuber who actually does thematic analysis of media rather than just explaining the lore
I really enjoyed your Jungian approach to this. Really great stuff.
You know what man. That explanation about repression is sorta relatable to me but not only me most of everyone else and her
I wouldn't mind short videos but please know I am more than happy to hear you discuss media- in fact if anything the appearance of the longer length is exhilarating!
I’m surprised you didn’t go over the balcony section! It’s my personal favorite of the entire game
I love this game so much and its so awesome seeing someone really dive into it and really explain everything about it. This was a really good analysis and I love the way you explain things! I can't wait to see more! :)
If you haven't already I'd reccomend you play through the series of short, weird, and interesting plot-wise indie RPGs, The Hello Charlotte series. I would love to a see a video on that game on this channel! The games themselves handle a lot of subject matter including identity, suicide, trauma, and a whole slew of philosophical and psychological questions.
Thanks, always happy to get new suggestions :)
@@DetectiveMar I love your videos! Thanks for responding and I can't wait to see whatever your next video will be!
