    Non stutterers are so damn lucky cause they don't know the feeling of not being able to speak normally and not being humiliated when talking.

      Yeah i speak so fast that i repeat words, consonants and sometimes skip vowels so what i said doesn't male any sense and it gets frustrating because i have anxiety and sometimes i can speak fine but then out of nowhere i start stuttering and i get frustrated and sometimes i start crying.

    I was a stammerer too but now i improved by this simple process, do this everyday for some days you will definately see the good results 1) take the any good few sentences which you fell its hard to say, may be 5 to 6 lines /and i also recommend make your own facial video) video making is for your own analysis. 2)read them in your most comfortable pitch and sound level in your own way. 3)after reading them you will know where and when at certain point of time you stuck. you can also underline at what words do you stuck which reading and you can also refer your video where and how do you stuck. 4)now practise reading the same sentences at very slow pace. while you read slow, you gradually pay attention of ur own throat muscles, how they fuctions with the combination of our own throat and mouth muscles to make a audible speech. there is also a breathing process involved in the play. You just need to observe your own body. Slow paced reading make you understand how do ur throat muscles actually works while you say variety of words. this helps
    hepl you to get the better understanding for the process of speech making of ur mouth. My main point in telling you all this is to understand and observe your own throat & mouth, try to get to know why do they function differently for different words.For me, slow reading helped me for better understanding myself. Now i speak more fluently and in some days i even fell its gonna go forever.!!!
    I HOPE THIS WILL HELP YOU GUYS!!

Practice speaking in the mirror, read out loud, then branch off to talking with people. Don't hold yourself back, I held myself back in the past and felt like shit. Won't hold myself back anymore. Hi im a stutterer. I notice when you are relax and realize ur trigger...and sing the word in a way it flows into normal conversation and open your jaw...and do the politician response slow but direct. I hope this helps...it also helps to work out...i notice stuttering has alot to do with anxiety and lack of confidence...because wanting to speak like non stutters....also relax muscles when not talking. And focus on breathing exercises.

      Yeah, I often hear that and I could say that for myself as well. And it may seem like it’s something about our mind only, some psychological stuff. But if we give it a thought speaking at its core involves communication, connection, and interaction with others. So, yeah it is stuttering. I’d love to see you inside my Improve program. I too shutter a lot and it's kinda killing me. When having conversation with others or with friends there are many things which I wanted to say but unfortunately that words left unsaid because of this disgusting stammering situation of mine. The words doesn't simply come out of my mouth even if I try to. Only the words I have with me when someone ask me about something is 'Yes or No ". Sometimes when I think the words gonna be hard explaining then I Simply go with " Never mind".
    I also have troubling with the words that starts with A, C , N ,S, T and Y, so I skip it.. Hell yeah, I literally skip the entire word that starts with that alphabet and jump directly to the next word . Instead of saying throughoutly I only come up with "that word" . And the listener keeps on guessing like which word? Is it from S or T or Y or A.
    Even in phone conversation when someone is in urgent condition and the person speaking with is me, I rather gave the phone to another person to speak them to.
    I just hope sometimes that please don't let me be in phone when something urgent comes up , Cause I know I can't.
    Sometimes I really does hate it, it makes me feel hopeless, Lifeless.
    No one in my family shutters, neither my siblings nor my parents, I'm the only one who have this. By asking to my mom I found that this shuttering of mine is not because of the genetic but because of one person whom I used to play with when I was a kid. Mom said I definitely have inherited the stammering because of that.
    Whatever the reasons are nothings matter now. The only thing matter is Wish I could cure this shuttering of mine before I reach 30 . 😔

    When I'm speaking English I don't stutter. But if I have to speak my language(Otjiherero) I stutter terribly to the point of making weird movements with my body. So I guess I'll speak English for rest of my life, I'm good at it and I love 😍 it too.

    • @rapskaujama5178
      @rapskaujama5178 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Free from stutter. Yep I've got an idea. I read somewhere that it's caused by the brain, the brain sends faulty massages to the muscles while you're talking and that it's a genetic disorder.

    • @Freefromstutter
      @Freefromstutter  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, I mean why you don't stutter in English.

    • @Freefromstutter
      @Freefromstutter  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ok. My guess is that when we speak in a different language it's an opportunity to be a different "me." And gives us more freedom with our speaking. Our stuttering pattern doesn't work here yet. It's pretty much the same idea as with acting.

    I have done 6 yrs of studying and I am 25 and I still stutter but never giving up is the key.
    Recently I got a call from a university, and the way I talk it was like 😂😂😂😂 , so embarrassing but you need to get the hold of it.
    It is curable💪💪💪, keep working on it like every muscle in the body.

  • @JoeRiggsMentalist
    @JoeRiggsMentalist 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I was a severe stutterer for 33 years. My name is Joe Riggs, and despite the stutter I still became an acclaimed Mentalist, lecturer & consultant. But i hated it, every second of it. I started out as a magician in my early twenties and was able to hide behind the "coolness" of my work, to give me a false sense of confidence. It caused so much emotional hell and self esteem destruction. Yet you wouldn't know that by meeting me. As a performer I was very able to project an attitude of "I stutter and I don't care, I'm too cool to care." That was bullshit though, it tortured me. But then a few months ago I found an old stuttering techniques book in a used bookshop, and after much practice, I NO LONGER stutter. That moment changed my life forever. The esteem and confidence has caused me to lose 77 pounds, get in shape, and do so many things I never did before. I walk on stage now and address my audiences fluent, and confident. Which is something I never thought I would experience. The concept basically was to slightly slow down while simultaneously focusing on Melody and Inflection. Sounds simple, and in many ways it is. But it really was a breakthrough. It is related to the fact that most do not stutter when they do impersonations, I see it as impersonating yourself, adding a hint of melody and inflection. There is a bit more to it but that is the crux. I am considering helping other stutterers, using a mixture of the techniques that cured me as well as some of the psychological techniques I use in my work. I will never charge a cent, I just desperately want others to know you don't have to feel that way, or, talk that way. And you are not alone. Anyways, love the video. Very inspiring. Already incorporating some of your tips into my new routine.

      Wow, thank you so much for sharing! I can totally relate! I used to be a corporate lawyer so also had a bit of that coolness to cover insecurities in my speaking. And even though it feels like magic when you start feeling differently about your speaking, the real change starts with taking responsibility for our speaking. No magic here and no magic pill either :)

    This is a wonderful video. Thank you so much.
    I have nearly mastered my stammer in most situations except one: zoom meetings. When it is my turn to speak or to explain, I can stammer badly. Any tips for me?
    A little note for everyone with a stammer. To control it, I first developed my self esteem (which was very, very low) through listening to people like Mel Robin, Marisa Peer, Lisa Nichols, Lena Kay (as a woman, I prefer women speakers because I feel they understand our emotions better, most of the time but they are wonderful male motivators out there.). As I started to love myself better, there was a slight improvement in my speech. Then I took speech therapy lessons. The stammer is now 98% under control.
    I stammered all my life (and that about more than 50 years of stammering). If I stammer now in some situations, I explain I stammer and that they have to be patient. This helps too. No more being ashamed of my speech.
    Another thing I have learned, if people laugh when we stammer: We look straight at them and tell them that they are hurting our feelings and disrespecting us. It takes a while to master the art of saying that without anger, but believe me, it works. People do not realise what they are doing. To laugh is an automated reaction, like when someone falls down. It is not right but it is what it is.
    Last thing: do not let your stammer get in your way. I wanted to be a journalist or a lawyer when I was young. I did not because of my speech. I was afraid of speaking. I let my stammer ruin my life. I choose the second best options always or even the third or the fourth. Don't. Take from my experience. Never be ashamed of who you are and how you speak. If it is too hard to say it, get a pin or badge saying ''I stammer/stutter, what's your super power.'' Make if fun but remember you have a voice, even if your voice is broken. You have the right to express yourself like everyone else. I suffered a lot as a stammerer. I do not want others to go through what I went. It is only now that I got a job I love and where I have to speak to people. And I am finally comfortable with myself.
    All the best!
    🖤🖤

      Regarding the zoom calls, what do you think is triggering additional pressure in this case? Do you make zoom calls often?

    • @Freefromstutter
      @Freefromstutter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why zoom calls might bring more pressure - it's because of additional exposure, sort of public speaking feeling. So, I would give my general tips for speaking anxiety here (which mostly match the tips that you gave): www.freefromstutter.com/blog/stuttering-and-anxiety-7-tips-how-to-reduce-stuttering-anxiety

      Another element I want to emphasise is creating. When we don't react or respond but rather create a situation proactively. We don't feel like an exam, but rather as an exercise. We don't hide or escape but rather open up and give ourselves permission to make a mistake and mess up. www.freefromstutter.com/blog/stuttering-hard-situations

    You ever stutter helplessly in front of people to the point where you get embarrassed and you can sense that they’re embarrassed for you and so now you’re embarrassed about making them embarrassed and it just becomes this giant cycle of embarrassment?

    • @Freefromstutter
      @Freefromstutter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, this embarrassment is the biggest part of stuttering! I call it the invisible 90% of stuttering. And yeah, while I believe it's a great idea to work on removing the helplessness, even more important is how we deal with this embarrassment. So, here's another blog post and video that can help on that: www.freefromstutter.com/blog/stuttering-is-not-bad

      Thank you so much! In the nutshell, we want to engage our body while speaking. It gives us some support and helps us express ourselves. Acting does one more thing - we get away from our "stuttering me," it gives freedom to be a different "me" without stutter. I talk a little more about it in this video about stuttering techniques www.freefromstutter.com/blog/stuttering-techniques

      Hey Adrian, thank you so much for your comment! Doing exercises is great but I totally agree that it's not enough if we want to bring real change to the speaking pattern. And the problem is that speaking is highly automated so every time we speak "normally" we get back to our default speaking pattern which is insecure. th-cam.com/video/dvnLWKPMqK4/w-d-xo.html

      My big idea is that we want to have a training speech that we want to use most of the time. And it's not some artificial kind of speaking, it's just putting more substance to our speaking, restoring the inner structure of our natural speaking. • @Freefromstutter
      @Freefromstutter  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, I can relate! That's how stuttering works. We feel stuttering coming and the tension starts growing and we're paralyzed, we can't do anything about it at that time. And the keywords you used are "hate" and "cry." They describe the heart of the problem. The first thing we want to do is to feel, genuinely and truly feel more positive about ourselves (stuttering ourselves), speaking interaction, and speech impediments. And even though I'm preaching about building a training speech, associating the confidence with the act of speaking, etc. but the last thing, the very end result is the same thing that we want to start with - a more positive attitude, a positive feeling about the speaking interaction. www.freefromstutter.com/blog/what-causes-stuttering-two-real-causes-of-stuttering-anxiety-and-stuttering-tension

      @Freefromstutter  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Thank you so much for the great question! I think the most important thing is to have a clear plan how to move your new feelings about speaking to real life. How to actually apply those in real life. And it doesn't depend on how much or how many times you practice. What matters is how much and how many times you're able to use those techniques or exercises in real life. How you close the gap between your home practice and real life. • @Freefromstutter
      @Freefromstutter  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Jason, even though stuttering obviously has a visible physical part it's also deeply rooted in our emotional and mental side as well. What oftentimes happens is that we get comfortable at some place or with some people or in some role where we know how to behave and we know that we can handle it. We feel confident and we "pass fluent." Yet, stuttering is sleeping there like Smaug in the Hobbit movie. So, fortunately or unfortunately, stuttering is much more than just the fluency stuff. i used to stammer a lot at once. but later i found out what the reason is . why we stammer , how can i tackle it.
    try to observe one thing and you would probably find that you stammer when you get excite. never ever ever get excited while talking, if you have a stammering problem.
    one more thing, try to focus on the letters on which you stammer a lot , even at the start. for example i used to stammer on the letter "T" and "P " N and some more. well i tackle all the stammering problem in me. and now i work in a BPO (call center) . and you might know that working in a call center is only possible if you have a clear speach. I've cleared Versant test also.

      Hey Mohammed, got it! Thank you so much for sharing! Well, most people who stutter also don't have a stuttering problem for all of their speech. That's how stuttering works. I've just released a blog post and a video where I talk more about stuttering and its treatment. Hope you'll find it helpful www.freefromstutter.com/blog/stuttering-disorder-stutter-symptoms-causes-self-help-and-treatment

      Hey Anil, yeah, that's the way stuttering works. Our speaking is highly automated and it's largely an emotional response to the environment. Maybe you can find this article helpful as well: www.freefromstutter.com/blog/i-don-t-stutter-alone-psychological-stuttering

    So basically, what you're saying is when I'm in the post office and I'm about to speak to the person behind the desk, I am supposed to start dancing? Cool! That should get me well relaxed and chilled in no time.

      Oh, I'm not sure that you've watched the whole video. In exercise 6 I'm saying that all our exercises and practices fade away in real-life speaking. And that for the real-life situations we need a solid foundation for our speaking. www.freefromstutter.com/blog/top-10-exercises-for-stuttering

    I don't stammer when I'm alone but when I have to speak publicly or with some stranger, I stammer. There are particular syllables 'chi', 'ka' etc.
    There are words which I don't really stammer with but speaking to a stranger increases my stuttering. My body gets tensed. Feels like anxiety increases my stuttering. Any way to reduce that?

    • @Freefromstutter

    Using nose to breathe can help? Because i use my mouth to breathe

    • @Freefromstutter
      @Freefromstutter  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      When we speak or sign we usually breathe through the mouth. When we regularly breathe we usually breathe through the nose or breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth. I've seen some people who stutter do that - use nose to breathe in before they say a phrase. I don't teach that and I don't use that as well. I suggest to breathe in and breathe out (you can breathe in through the nose and breathe out through the mouth) and wait for a second to feel the natural state we want to be in when we start speaking. We have a lot of air in the lungs and we feel calm, we don't want to feel rushed or stressed by breathing in just at the moment of the beginning of speaking.
