    Dr. Alvin D. Jackson is a Family Practice Physician at Curtis V. Cooper Primary Health Care, Inc. in Savannah, Georgia. He has practiced medicine in Fremont and Cincinnati, Ohio and is the former Director of The Ohio Department of Health. He was appointed by Gov. Ted Strickland in January 2007 and served until January 10, 2011. On May 12, 2009, he became one of the first Public Health officials to meet with President Barack Obama at The White House. Dr. Jackson formerly served on The Institute of Medicine's Board on Population Health and Public Health Practice.
    Dr. Jackson is Board President of The Willow Hill Heritage and Renaissance Center which is the former Willow Hill School founded in 1874 as one of the first schools for African Americans in Bulloch County, Ga. Dr. Jackson is currently Board President of The Georgia African American Historic Preservation Network (GAAHPN), a statewide organization dedicated to the preservation of African American History and Culture.
    Dr. Jackson has spent more than 40 years documenting the history of The Willow Hill School and Community through his collection of photographs and artifacts, which include 20,000 obituaries and funeral programs and over 500 oral recordings of African Americans in Bulloch County, Ga. Additionally, he has done extensive research on the 38 known African American Cemeteries in Bulloch County through the series, "If These Cemeteries Could Talk, Oh the Stories They Could Tell". He has also done extensive research on African American Churches and Schools in Bulloch County. Dr. Jackson is an oral historian and is a highly requested speaker on African American History and Culture, especially with respect to Bulloch and surrounding counties.
    Dr. Jackson received his B.S. from Andrews University in Michigan. He also did undergraduate studies at Oakwood College in Alabama, Columbia University in New York, and the University of Keele in England. Dr. Jackson earned his M.D. from The Ohio State University College of Medicine.
