I actually like the Gibson Modern Flying V in Ebony Prism color. The guitar looks bad ass! It's refreshing to see old companies like Gibson [and Fender] do a "modern take" on a classic design such as the Flying V guitar. Fanboys just need to chill the fk out. Furthermore, I would buy both Modern V and Razor Blade guitars.

@@travelinman482 thats totally fair. My only issue with an axe- sorry, razor of that style is that it must not be comfortable to play while sitting down (unless it's slide style). I also don't personally like the style and think its gimmicky, but my opinion is invalidated by the fact that I play an 8 string guitar lol. and about the artist: his music isn't my taste, which is fine, but it doesn't help that MGK's been very against Corey Taylor for not wanting to be a part of his album. That and he doesn't think wearing sneakers are metal. Basically, he comes fresh into the genre and starts throwing shade at some of the more rightfully renowned names. But, it's true that he is an inspiration for some of the kids.

What I'm surprised about the most is all the QC issues. That bridge isn't crooked for intonation reasons. It's just crooked. I'm not used to that with Schecter. Even when disregarding whose signature guitar it is, it's a POS and an expensive one at that (for what it is).

For $1.5k the qc is absolutely horrible it seems. Recently bought a guitar for around $200 and it only had about a quarter as many dings and paint issues as this guitar seems to have, schecter honestly should be a bit ashamed for this release
Just to provide some extra context regarding the artist & why the public have labeled this guitar as tasteless (and potentially promoting self harm) MGK started out his career as a rapper, but in the last few years has transitioned fully into pop punk & emo music, which has a long history of referencing self harm in lyrics. MGK himself has released songs with lyrics that reference self harm since making this transition. So this isn't really a signature guitar for a rap artist who just "likes to shave," this is the signature guitar of one of the most successful emo artists in recent years. So the public reaction that this guitar may promote self harm has much more validity to it than it might initially seem. I think this is a pretty tasteless move from Schecter, unfortunately.
Not only is it kinda dumb as hell even if it wasn't self harm and just trying to look edgy, but god damn releasing a guitar that is directly linked to self harm is fucking wild to me.
I wouldn’t be very happy if I paid $1500 for this and it arrived with all those marks on it. Especially given someone has removed the plastic protective film . I would be sending this back given all the other blemishes. Cheers from NZ 😎🎸🤘

I think this is accurate. If this were debuted as some gimmick guitar from a hard rock/metal band, it would have had a better reception- especially the case during the 80's and 90's.
Yes, it's a very different conversation if it says GWAR on the headstock, and has cartoonish blood on the edge. Equally stupid, but perfectly acceptable by the metal community. MGK's curse is that he went from being a racial outsider to a cultural outsider. Music fans are FILLED with hate for anything remotely different than themselves, and it's nothing short of pathetic. The guitar is stupid, but so are the majority of other guitars. Like what you like, and move on, yeah?
No, they wouldnt play it because it is an entry level guitar, suitable for beginners, with little to no tone variation and totally shoddy quality control. No serious player would give $1500 for $200 guitar.

I can’t support or respect someone like that regardless of how good or bad their music and guitars may be. It’s sad that people like him can garner so much attention and following. I actually kind of like his signature guitars, even this is a quirky and fun design but I don’t care to buy anything with MGK associated with it. The only Tool I care for in the guitar world involves Adam Jones.

While I do think that both this and the Bo Diddley are both ugly asf (cuz they are just a rectangle for Christ sake) I gotta admit that the latter at least looks way better not to mention the neck pickup and more tonal options.
Shocked at the quality issues, say what you will about the design. I didn't enjoy the output - reminded me of a very very budget oriented HSS (without the SS) Squier. But at that price, feels like only die hard MGK fans that can't play guitar will want this.
Schecter rarely has quality issues. Probably everyone working there is insulted that the marketing team is forcing them to build such garbage, so they sabotage them.
Also, why would you expect quality on a signature model guitar when the person it's made for doesn't know how to play a guitar and destroys one at every show? Let's be real, it's simply an "edgy" prob for MGK to pose with.
I don't mind it. My first thought was that it was a Judas Priest 'British Steel' guitar. As you said, signature guitars aren't an award for being a great guitarist. It's a business partnership and MGK gets numbers and if it brings more people to the guitar, more power to him.
It's weird I've literally never had defects on an "A stock" schecter, surely these are demo or pre-production models. For a World Music guitar this build quality is odd to say the least.
I own a Schecter 6 string studio bass and I can say, Schecter makes some awesome, beautiful pieces of art, that play like butter and the necks feel like silk......and then they made that piece of junk!
He reviewed it if he calls it a business expense that's a tax write off. He makes money off any video that has ads so that's more money if the video was monetized. Didn't see any ads but you bet your ass he's writing this off of his taxes. So it's most likely practically a free guitar for him.
Put a nice Judas priest british steel sticker on it and ignore the fact Kelly has anything to do with it and it's difference makes it cool. No one cried when Gene Simmons came out with an Axe Bass.
I understand the reaction for the razor blade shape, but there have definitely been a lot weirder shapes. Some Gene Simmons battle axe guitars or machine gun shaped ones could easily be considered insensitive.
MGK litterally switched genres because he was failing though XD Its so sad to see someone who literally cannot make it in the industry can get to the point hes getting signature guitars, yet people will complain about "industry plants" atleast those do actually tend to be musicians XD wich i would consider a bare minimum to me.
The hate comes from him talking shit about an artist in the rap game, getting killed by said artist, and then tucking his tail between his legs to go play rock, and then immediately talking shit about one of the most iconic names in the rock/metal game in slipknot. Lot of stupidity for a guy who couldn’t hack it as a rapper and then decided to play the most generic sounding early 2000s style pop rock.
I can see why this could be good for getting young fans into guitar but the price tag makes it a lousy choice for beginners. I dont know who will buy it outside of people buying it for laughs and diehard mgk fans, who aren't very likely to be guitar players.
I'm not sure why you compared that guitar with the Zakk Wylde SGV. I get it maybe as far as weird shapes but there's no comparison. That ZW is badass in my opinion. The mgk not so much. It honestly looks like it should be no more than $299.
Salutations Austin! Despite the quality control issues, this guitar does bring to mind the cover of Judas Priest’s “British Steel” which was one of their first commercially successful albums in the USA 🇺🇸 and featured such hits as “Breaking The Law”, Metal Gods”, and “Living After Midnight”, if this guitar featured the Judas Priest logo printed diagonally across the blade and the British Steel on opposite corners of the “blade”, it would very likely be more popular with Judas Priest’s fans than with Machine Gun Kelly’s fans, it’s definitely a missed opportunity for Schecter, however, it was built to Machine Gun Kelly’s specifications. Schecter could easily build another line of these for Judas Priest’s fans by just printing the faceplate differently to match the British Steel album cover. Someone else suggested that Eric Clapton could use this instrument to perform “ Cocaine” with. It also would have been very fashionable back in the seventies when that substance was being abused in just about every discotheque. It’s too bad that there are so many quality control issues, and that the protective film has been removed already, or else, that they didn’t remove it completely. It is also a bit pricey considering that it has no custom case, and that it won’t fit well in any other case either. It would also be nice if it had a coil split/tap and some other features too, since it is so stripped down, for the price. It sounds alright, and it would be very simple to make a few upgrades to it, such as I have already mentioned. Thank you for sharing your experience with this instrument and posting this video! i've got 4 schecters and of course tried many models before purchases and something i tell everyone is that the QC is amazing. even so that buying a Fender MIM strat is odd bc i have to inspect it a little more thoroughly
No Hipshot bridges are not supposed to installed crooked. They are supposed to be install straight on with the neck. This is the second time I’ve seen this. First with the Kieth Marrow MK III, now this. For a $1500 guitar this is not worth it. Paint issues, the fact the peel wasn’t taken off before installation, the bridge being crooked. Yeah I’d of sent this one back.
The only cool thing about MGK is Sophie Lloyd, (the studio guitarist he hires to play guitar live) she has a signature guitar too from “Keisel” but her’s actually looks like a guitar😂😂😂and she is an actual good player

The part that makes me the most angry is a single humbucker with a killswitch a volume nob. The killswitch and volume nob are useless together! They do the exact same thing.

I saw an image of this guitar on twitter and I thought "Oh cool, Judas Priest guitar cuz like 'British Steel' and all that". Then I scrolled down and saw MGK and immediately changed the thought to "Oh my god this f-ing loser, he's already hated by the rock world, wtf is this???"
Im sorry, but I’m not. That is the worst guitar I have ever seen. The design itself is ass. It is true, I’m not a fan of the artist. The quality control, for the price, is hot garbage. I have an LTD F-50 made of Basswood that is an all around better guitar than this at $250.
I don't even think it's so much that people hate the guitar, people just hate MGK. Don't get me wrong, the guitar is ugly, but people would've probably just ignored it if it wasn't associated with MGK lol.
i'm not mad with the guitar, i just don't think there's anyone in the world who isn't like a promoter or someone who doesn't really listen to music too much outside from just casually having it in the background, like the average person who doesn't really care for music or that music isn't interesting to them for example, who unironically likes MGK, at least he's self aware! he even called one of his albums modern day sellout, which makes sense.
Gimmicky guitars are a lot of fun to look at. But not really for me to add to my small collection. I'm ok with signature guitars. Just not a big fan of gimmicks like this razor. Cool to see though. I have Ibanez RG-series, PRS Silver Sky, an SG, and a super strat. Couldn't see myself shelling money out for guitars like Warlocks or razors or coffin axes
Hey Trogly, I have always loved your videos, but I always felt you needed to up your playing and guitar tone game for the demos. Well, I have to say the riffs you were blasting out starting around 14:35 was some of the best guitar playing and tone I have heard from you. You sometimes should dial in a tone to let the viewers hear a guitar's full potential. I get using a pretty consistent clean tone with the Deluxe Reverb and then you kick on the distortion and demo the guitars that way. Problem to me is by using close to the same settings for each, many of the guitars on the demos start to sound the same. Again, great tone and playing here and consider dialing in tones on a case by case basis. It seemed to inspire you, as well as others, to have more fun playing.
Very smart of them to leave the film under the pickup. First, it's on the hidden side, so no aesthetic issue. Second it protects the insides from dust and moisture. Not sure what your problem is...
I don't like MGK because he was a mediocre rapper. I like Eminem for destroying him but I am a little upset that it was such a kill shot that MGK had to leave rap and start playing pop punk. I hate myself for actually thinking some of the songs are actually good but then I take comfort in knowing MGK doesn't write his songs. So I can circle back to hating him.
I really don't hate it. The neck is super nice, locking tuners are great, the shape at least *looks* comfortable. And that kill switch seems like a cool version of it for performer/singer/lead who also plays. No futzing with the volume knob to keep it quiet while you're doing non-guitar front person stuff. Just flip the switch. Start singing, dancing, chanting, crowd working, whatever. And the "punk/rock for bummed out teens" vibe has been a viable strategy since the 1970s. Getting uppity about how edgy it is just sounds like people who were cool as kids unwittingly having morphed into lame parent-style people in their 30s. That plastic under the bridge would drive me crazy, though.

My Jackson JS22 is just perfect the only issues being design choices like cheap tuners and wood.

I don't mind it. My first thought was that it was a Judas Priest 'British Steel' guitar. As you said, signature guitars aren't an award for being a great guitarist. It's a business partnership and MGK gets numbers and if it brings more people to the guitar, more power to him.

It's weird I've literally never had defects on an "A stock" schecter, surely these are demo or pre-production models. For a World Music guitar this build quality is odd to say the least.

My issue with this guitar is not the potential trauma triggers. It’s the fact that it’s a signature guitar for an “artist” who can’t play.

I own a Schecter 6 string studio bass and I can say, Schecter makes some awesome, beautiful pieces of art, that play like butter and the necks feel like silk......and then they made that piece of junk!
I have a Schecter reaper I adore but they appear to have some qc issues these days, glad we both got good ones!
I never had any Schecters. But of all that I played, they simply make the best necks of the shredder brands.

QC issues on this one is what actually surprised me a little.
Give it a maple board strat-neck, a DiMarzio Super Distortion and a Kahler vibrato system and it's a pretty badass Judas Priest-guitar

He reviewed it if he calls it a business expense that's a tax write off. He makes money off any video that has ads so that's more money if the video was monetized. Didn't see any ads but you bet your ass he's writing this off of his taxes. So it's most likely practically a free guitar for him.
Schecter made a "flying W" for Al Jourgenson of Ministry, and it's also terrible.

I understand the reaction for the razor blade shape, but there have definitely been a lot weirder shapes. Some Gene Simmons battle axe guitars or machine gun shaped ones could easily be considered insensitive.

The hate comes from him talking shit about an artist in the rap game, getting killed by said artist, and then tucking his tail between his legs to go play rock, and then immediately talking shit about one of the most iconic names in the rock/metal game in slipknot.
Lot of stupidity for a guy who couldn’t hack it as a rapper and then decided to play the most generic sounding early 2000s style pop rock.
I can see why this could be good for getting young fans into guitar but the price tag makes it a lousy choice for beginners. I dont know who will buy it outside of people buying it for laughs and diehard mgk fans, who aren't very likely to be guitar players.

I'm not sure why you compared that guitar with the Zakk Wylde SGV. I get it maybe as far as weird shapes but there's no comparison. That ZW is badass in my opinion. The mgk not so much. It honestly looks like it should be no more than $299.

Despite the quality control issues, this guitar does bring to mind the cover of Judas Priest’s “British Steel” which was one of their first commercially successful albums in the USA 🇺🇸 and featured such hits as “Breaking The Law”, Metal Gods”, and “Living After Midnight”, if this guitar featured the Judas Priest logo printed diagonally across the blade and the British Steel on opposite corners of the “blade”, it would very likely be more popular with Judas Priest’s fans than with Machine Gun Kelly’s fans, it’s definitely a missed opportunity for Schecter, however, it was built to Machine Gun Kelly’s specifications. Schecter could easily build another line of these for Judas Priest’s fans by just printing the faceplate differently to match the British Steel album cover.
Someone else suggested that Eric Clapton could use this instrument to perform “ Cocaine” with.
It also would have been very fashionable back in the seventies when that substance was being abused in just about every discotheque.
It’s too bad that there are so many quality control issues, and that the protective film has been removed already, or else, that they didn’t remove it completely.
It is also a bit pricey considering that it has no custom case, and that it won’t fit well in any other case either. It would also be nice if it had a coil split/tap and some other features too, since it is so stripped down, for the price.
It sounds alright, and it would be very simple to make a few upgrades to it, such as I have already mentioned.

bridge is mounted crooked too. look at the angle of the saddles. and you can see when it's removed. probably still works but looks bad.

i've got 4 schecters and of course tried many models before purchases and something i tell everyone is that the QC is amazing. even so that buying a Fender MIM strat is odd bc i have to inspect it a little more thoroughly

No Hipshot bridges are not supposed to installed crooked. They are supposed to be install straight on with the neck. This is the second time I’ve seen this. First with the Kieth Marrow MK III, now this. For a $1500 guitar this is not worth it. Paint issues, the fact the peel wasn’t taken off before installation, the bridge being crooked. Yeah I’d of sent this one back.

The part that makes me the most angry is a single humbucker with a killswitch a volume nob. The killswitch and volume nob are useless together! They do the exact same thing.
Not really, killswitches cut the sound immediately and there are plenty of reasons to play at half-volume.
The end result is the same but are totally different. You can’t “skip” with a volume knob, you only swell.
Imagining if I win this in a contest and thinking I could just put on a Warmoth body... But then, it's got his logo on the neck. Ugh. I love Schecter and I hope they don't lose too much money on this guitar.
That's not a momentary switch. A momentary switch is spring loaded and is only working when you press it.
I saw an image of this guitar on twitter and I thought "Oh cool, Judas Priest guitar cuz like 'British Steel' and all that". Then I scrolled down and saw MGK and immediately changed the thought to "Oh my god this f-ing loser, he's already hated by the rock world, wtf is this???"

Im sorry, but I’m not. That is the worst guitar I have ever seen. The design itself is ass. It is true, I’m not a fan of the artist. The quality control, for the price, is hot garbage. I have an LTD F-50 made of Basswood that is an all around better guitar than this at $250.
I don't even think it's so much that people hate the guitar, people just hate MGK. Don't get me wrong, the guitar is ugly, but people would've probably just ignored it if it wasn't associated with MGK lol.
i'm not mad with the guitar, i just don't think there's anyone in the world who isn't like a promoter or someone who doesn't really listen to music too much outside from just casually having it in the background, like the average person who doesn't really care for music or that music isn't interesting to them for example, who unironically likes MGK, at least he's self aware! he even called one of his albums modern day sellout, which makes sense.
That guitar sounds best while played in "sharp".
Gimmicky guitars are a lot of fun to look at. But not really for me to add to my small collection. I'm ok with signature guitars. Just not a big fan of gimmicks like this razor. Cool to see though. I have Ibanez RG-series, PRS Silver Sky, an SG, and a super strat. Couldn't see myself shelling money out for guitars like Warlocks or razors or coffin axes
Hey Trogly, I have always loved your videos, but I always felt you needed to up your playing and guitar tone game for the demos. Well, I have to say the riffs you were blasting out starting around 14:35 was some of the best guitar playing and tone I have heard from you. You sometimes should dial in a tone to let the viewers hear a guitar's full potential. I get using a pretty consistent clean tone with the Deluxe Reverb and then you kick on the distortion and demo the guitars that way. Problem to me is by using close to the same settings for each, many of the guitars on the demos start to sound the same. Again, great tone and playing here and consider dialing in tones on a case by case basis. It seemed to inspire you, as well as others, to have more fun playing.

Very smart of them to leave the film under the pickup. First, it's on the hidden side, so no aesthetic issue. Second it protects the insides from dust and moisture. Not sure what your problem is...

MGK got bullied out of the rap scene... so he turned to mediocre pop punk and industry planting.
I don't like MGK because he was a mediocre rapper. I like Eminem for destroying him but I am a little upset that it was such a kill shot that MGK had to leave rap and start playing pop punk. I hate myself for actually thinking some of the songs are actually good but then I take comfort in knowing MGK doesn't write his songs. So I can circle back to hating him.
I really don't hate it. The neck is super nice, locking tuners are great, the shape at least *looks* comfortable. And that kill switch seems like a cool version of it for performer/singer/lead who also plays. No futzing with the volume knob to keep it quiet while you're doing non-guitar front person stuff. Just flip the switch. Start singing, dancing, chanting, crowd working, whatever.
And the "punk/rock for bummed out teens" vibe has been a viable strategy since the 1970s. Getting uppity about how edgy it is just sounds like people who were cool as kids unwittingly having morphed into lame parent-style people in their 30s.
That plastic under the bridge would drive me crazy, though.
