This was a perfect video for me. Vent got stuck open last night and this explained to me how it all worked. Thanks! Was able to clean oil and fix in no time.
good stuff. I have just fired my unit up this last week and noticed last night that when it got to the kick on (low) temp, I heard it kick on but then it took about 10 seconds before the damper opened. Won't take much to clean it. i haven't oiled that solenoid before, I like that idea
Well you can’t get rid of it but you can control it. Burning season wood is the best way, burn a hot fire and scrap all the sides and top and bottom often. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching, Kevin
Anybody ever set point 10 175 with a 10 degree difference so when it hits 165 it kicks back on? I was told you can save some wood if you set the temp lower? Just curious..thanks!
I did try that for a for a few weeks but I found I didn’t see a difference that much in wood. What I did see was my domestic hot water heater didn’t recover as fast, and the heat for my house was not as warm and took longer to recover back to my thermostat. Great question and enjoy you wood heat. Kevin
Just found you and subbed. I have a video coming out on Wednesday that probably every wood boiler user should see. I've been burning since 2014 and first time I started the adjacent wood pile on fire. Be interested in your comments on why that was. Thanks Nebraska WoodSTR
People catch their wood pile on fire because they don’t let their coals that they take out of their furnace completely die. They need to keep them in a metal container for up to two weeks so they are totally cold. Also what can start fires is people leave the door open so it gets too much air and sparks fly out of the chimney which can start a fire as well. Thanks for watching our channel. Kevin
I have a central boiler, the damper doesn't kick in, even if the temp reaches 200 degrees. The solenoid doesn't get power going to it, so it doesn't open or close and manage the temperature. Any idea on what the problem is?
It should open at 175 or so and close at 185, if it doesn’t work at all check the fuse and maybe the solenoid bad. If them are all ok then it’s probably the controller. Just my thinking Thanks for watching our videos. Kevin
Can you tell us what you ended up fixing? First thing is there's nornally a 35$ ish high temp safety gizmo to push to reset, or those go bad easily. Then, I'd have recommended testing wiring to the solenoid/ blower. Then aquastat issue, that the only way I've seen to test aqastat is replace it and see if it helps.
What are your thoughts about a dual fuel system, one that uses propane as well? I have an off grid cabin that has a small solar system that’s backed up by a propane generator. I’d like a central boiler, but I’m thinking about one that can burn propane as well for late summer early fall time before the cold really sets in and I’d switch to wood. I’m just curious why you might think about that idea. Thanks In advance if you answer.
Hey Tim, I had a dual fuel system at one of my homes but then I changed and put a boiler in the house also after a couple years. The reason being with just the outdoor wood furnace as a dual fuel propane back up if something ever happened to my outdoor woodstove I had no heat whatsoever in the house. I highly recommend having a heat source in the house as well as the outdoor woodstove. Thanks for watching our channel. Kevin
I guess I’m a little confused. I’m looking at purchasing an outdoor boiler but I was considering one that could run on propane as well. I’d run radiant baseboards as ya I don’t have any furnace in the house. In fact I don’t have a regular water heater, just an on demand propane system but I would probably get a water tank so the boiler can heat that. I’m new to this whole boiler thing and don’t know much yet, that’s how I found your channel. But don’t they make a boiler that not only burns wood but can burn propane as well?
Thank you for your video! I’m going to get mine cleaned up! Also, I did not know about the adjustment.
Thank you for watching, Kevin
Good description of that solenoid. Going out to check (clean) mine soon. Thanks

Great video Kevin! Very informative
Thanks Patrick for the feedback and for watching our videos. Kevin
Thanks.
What do you do to cut down the creosote?

Check the fuse
@@genuineimpulse9134 they are very simple furnaces , fuses or solenoid or wiring and the probe. Need to check them all. Thanks for watching

I do have a free standing wood stove inside the cabin but it’s kinda undersized and takes a good 12 hours to take the temps up to comfortable.

You don’t have to buy a tank to heat your domestic water with a central boiler Woodstove
Umm I believe that is a "Central" Boiler?
