Hot Water Heater Heating Our Home
มุมมอง 1.1K14 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
What we did to make it more efficient when using the water heater is put a timer on. We have used 543 gallons of propane from 8-11-23 till 12-08-24 now that is heating the our home, heating water for the shower, washing clothes and dishes. I feel that's very good.

I deleted my previous comments. I was wrong and I regret doubting your answers about the structure shown in the background on this video You have done a marvelous hob and by now you have probaly figured out who I am would still like to work something out with you guys. Thanks

Water heater
what's a hot water heater? I have a cold water heater which heats the water.
Do you feel better now?
propane furnaces are 98%+ efficient by condensing the water vapor to get the last few percent out. If yor water heater is not doing this you are loosing efficiency.
most people don't have the extra cash for a 90+ furnace, and chances are even if they do they will mostly never benefit from the savings due to expensive repair costs, stick to 80%
just to add a note heat pums are the future just FYI
@@MylifeMBthanks for the input, we also have heat pump with air conditioning. Building on a slab we love the in floor heat. Down here in Tennessee the HVAC guy never seen or Hurd of in floor, I asked him about a boiler to run it and he never did one or seen it done. But we are in a very small community so it was slim pickings for quality up to date contractors. But I’m sure if I’d reached out more I could have found someone. Thanks for your comments. Kevin
There are efficient water heaters as well.
@@MylifeMB I'm not sure what a heat pum is, can you clarify?
I’ve had a 560 for 4 seasons now and I love it. Sadly, I wouldn’t recommend buying one though, unless you are very confident in your dealers competence and availability. In rural BC, Canada we have one dealer for a province bigger than several European countries combined. There is no one to contact if you ever do experience trouble and you can’t order parts directly. Great boiler, but a terrible business model. IMHO.
Thanks for the comment and watching, I agree some dealers just want to sell and not service. I built my business on treat people how you want to be treated. Maybe CB needs another dealer in that area to take care of the people, or call the office and voice your concerns. Wish I could help. Thanks again stay warm in the great north. Kevin
Thank you for your video! I’m going to get mine cleaned up! Also, I did not know about the adjustment.
Thank you for watching, Kevin
Great job
Would it be better to use reverse osmosis water along with the Molly Armor in a new Central Boiler 560 edge?
CB says the best is water from a water softener but most people don’t have that. They do sell a disposable canister that produces soft water that you can get to fill your furnace. But like I say it’s not that big of a deal just put Molly in. Thanks for watching. Kevin
There aren’t any elk here in Montana. Just wolves, grizzly bears, and guides leading around out of state hunters.
That’s funny, that year saw elk and had one at 500 yards but was not able to close the deal. We Hunted back country and did the tent thing four years now. It’s a younger man sport but had great time. It’s about being with friends and sure it would be nice to put one down. Next time right?

The pool $19999.
@@klwit1980 Was that 20k all in? We are moving to Monterey Tn and may use them to install a pool. We will most likely do an above-ground pool with a deck surrounding it. Thanks for the video!
@@YesterdayMeetsToday Yes but I bought in the spring when they had a sale. But I had extra pay in backfill and in building a deck. Pool alone 19,900.
Just had a 15x24 aquasport 52 installed 24” inground, looks great. Lot of yard work needed after but we are getting there. Pool was 9k in NJ, but you can get it in other states for 7500. No cement collar needed. As of now we are at 20k installed w backfill and electric (which was 2700 for us), w xstream 150 filter and I ordered the portofino liner, which is stunning. Going to wrap it in composite, lots of designs on Pinterest.

Any insight on why a brand new Taco 007 circulator pump has gone through 2 cartridges in the first 30 days of firing my central boiler? The second one actually had a broken shaft.
The biggest problem is not getting air out of the pump, the next is cavitation with air or not enough resistance on the pump. I have before on a short run with no head pressure closed the return valve just a little. This is what I have done. Talk with your dealer or call the company. Thanks and hope this helps Kevin
Copy that, everyone’s been great on that end, just doing a bit of digging to solve the problem . I’m thinking I may be short on head pressure, I’m fairly confident I got all the air out of my system. Each time they went out the sharan flawlessly for about 2 weeks then kaboom. I’ll try closing the return a bit and see if it helps. Thanks for the insight.
Congratulations Kevin, the place looks beautiful.

I didn't know these burnt coal. Thought it was wood.
Wood only, if I said coal I misspoke but they do a nice job for heating. Thanks for watching,Kevin
@klwit1980 you didn't say coal. You were saying fly ash. Where I'm from, fly ash is a waste product from burning coal. They use it in asphalt. Some brands of these do use coal. Sorry for the confusion.
Interesting idea! I know in well insulated houses, the overheating thing is a definite issue, usually the fix for it is some fancy control system that monitors the slab temperature and all this. But I never thought of figuring out exactly what time it needs to come on and for how long to get the desired temperature, and then simply running a timer on it. It makes sense though.
Thanks for watching and I did think about sensors in the Concrete but didn’t do it. Thanks Kevin
nice job
This is the best go-over of the functional aspects of this line of machines, and how to access them, that I have seen. Despite the presenter not having a camera person and not being very articulate, the information content is top notch. Also, my comment on burning green or wet wood -- it's just plain dumb. People burning in wood stoves like to prolong and slow down the burn, which is why oak is popular, but modern appliances with good control allow you to burn pine or any dry wood, and the stove plus the heat content of the conducting water and the heated buildings can smooth out the burn. The most important thing is to burn completely at high efficiency so that you use much less wood and emit less junk. Burning wet wood is going to make it harder for even a well-designed stove to burn completely, and it will contribute more creosote into the heat exchanger and flue system, where somebody is going to have to clean it off.
I have been tying my shoes like the marines do and haven't had it come lose yet. They tie a knot in each shoe lace that stays in. Then they tie a regular bow knot and snatch on the bows so the knot cinches up against the knots in the laces.
Well thanks for the information and sounds like you served for our country, thank you
@@klwit1980 No sir, I just watched a marine show how they tie their boots on a youtube short.
I am more interested in how shinny and clean that garage is.
I can do a video on my garage for sure. Thanks for watching,Kevin
That is a good knot. We were in a Red Wing Shoe store in Minnesota a few years ago and the salesman recommended this knot.
Hi, if that label states for space heating only, its an separate isolated loop from the potable water. therefore you don't need a separate water to water plate heat exchanger. This feature that yours has is designed for exactly what you are doing. There is essentially a coil inside that the potable hot water tank that is heated that can be used to circulate a closed loop hot water heating system. They do not mix internally. There is nothing wrong with using a plate heat exchanger, but there is heat loss to consider. Hot water out the bottom, return water on top. The label they have is a little misleading. Nice install. Scott
Thanks Scott, I thought it was a separate loop but wasn’t sure so I just went with the 50 plate exchanger. Thanks for your positive feedback and for watching over channel. Kevin
hows the cabela iron ridge 800 boots holding up over the years? Thanks
Took them again this year to Montana hunting. My feet get cold easily and I ware white knee high socks. When walking my feet stay warm but after a couple hours I need to move some to get them warm again. I don’t ware wool socks the feel to bulky and don’t like a tight fit. The three other guys feet did get cold and we all had different brands. Being at 8,000 feet and 15 degrees with 20 mile an hour winds it cold. I would get them again. Thanks for watching our channel. Kevin
We had our Classic 5644 installed Aug 2003. It just sprung a leak in the firebox last weekend. (11/26) So we had it & loved it for a good 20 years & took pretty good consistent care of it. Unfortunately I think that may be about the average life expectancy of these units -- 20 years or so on average. Recently invested in the Classic Edge 560. Very excited about getting it installed & getting started with it. Looking forward to burning half a much wood, too! 👍 Question, though: I've been watching a lot of these TH-cam Videos about how great the Edge series stoves are; but have yet to run across any detailing any sort of problems (& troubleshooting tips?) might be reasonably expected to have to deal with? I know, with the 5644, it seemed like I was replacing solenoids every couple of years or so for a while there. (approx. 2006 - 2011) Also had to replace the pump once. As well as a couple of other service calls over the years. Also somewhat concerned about the quality of construction/materials/etc, nowadays -- compared with 20 years ago? Not expecting the new unit to automatically/necessarily be sub-par/problematic, here, by any means. But just want to be as informed & prepared as possible; for any potential problems that may crop up. Any thoughts/experience/feedback? Thanks!
Great furnace and easy to use, I did a video and the title was “ let’s take a better look”. This video will answer your questions. Thanks for your question Kevin
What do you do to cut down the creosote?
Well you can’t get rid of it but you can control it. Burning season wood is the best way, burn a hot fire and scrap all the sides and top and bottom often. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching, Kevin
Anybody ever set point 10 175 with a 10 degree difference so when it hits 165 it kicks back on? I was told you can save some wood if you set the temp lower? Just curious..thanks!
I did try that for a for a few weeks but I found I didn’t see a difference that much in wood. What I did see was my domestic hot water heater didn’t recover as fast, and the heat for my house was not as warm and took longer to recover back to my thermostat. Great question and enjoy you wood heat. Kevin
@@klwit1980 thank you for your reply that was very helpful!
Thank you for this very informative video! We just got a central boiler unit and their website videos are not that in depth and informative. Your video is hands on; and you tell it like it is. Can you do a trouble shooting video; like why and what you should do if your unit hits "boil." Maybe a video on all the cleaning?
Thanks for the nice comment, also thanks for the idea on another video. Have a great day. Kevin
Hi Gary from the UK here just wanted to know why is the pumps fitted on the flow and NOT on the return to the boiler, in the UK we always fit pumps on the return we find the pumps run cooler this extends the life of the pumps, I'm an old heating and ventilation engineer. Great video very interesting and informative keep them coming
Thanks Gary, I’m petty sure it’s because it’s a non pressurized system. On your typical boiler system it is pressurized and the pumps are on the return. Thanks for watching. Kevin
@@klwit1980 or is it because the boiler is set away from the property and there is no gravity flow to the hot water cylinder, all systems in the UK which are sold fuel or wood are gravity fed and have an open vent in case the boiler goes nuclear due to unforseen circumstances but the heating side of the unit is pumped to the radiators, but the pump is always on the return. Or if you sink the boiler into the ground you could create a gravity feed to your home as long as the boiler was deep enough into the ground
We was always told on the feed side to push the water through the system not pull it. The pump can be on the furnace or in the house just on the feed, just because it’s a non pressurized system.
does anyone have a measurement on the secondary stepper? i have a new motor ordered and just don't feel the secondary is opening far enough.
Call your dealer and he will be able to find out for you. You can go to CentralBoiler.com Click on Support Put in your serial number Type in your question and you should get a response asap. Thanks for watching our channel. Kevin
Same question here. My primary opens up but I haven’t seen the secondary move. It takes 12 hrs to get to 185 degrees that seems crazy.
@@CWBKCI would think you have air flow problems, clean fire box ash so they are below the air hole and scrap down each side of the tube that blows air down into the reaction chamber. Check air flow in back by the chimney. Still a problem call CB. Thanks for watching,Kevin
@@klwit1980 for sure. Stove is only 3 months old and I clean it every week very thoroughly. With that said what’s your preferred FireStar settings?? I think these settings have some effect on burn quality.
I have not burned the new edges I owned the first generation it was the 2300 To answer your question you can adjust like more air , more of a differential on your temperature water temperature. It depends a lot on your heat load on which way to adjust. I’d get with your dealer or other owners in your area to see what they are doing. I’m thinking of doing a video on some of them questions. Thanks for watching our videos. Kevin
good stuff. I have just fired my unit up this last week and noticed last night that when it got to the kick on (low) temp, I heard it kick on but then it took about 10 seconds before the damper opened. Won't take much to clean it. i haven't oiled that solenoid before, I like that idea
Glad it helped you, thanks for watching. Kevin
Good description of that solenoid. Going out to check (clean) mine soon. Thanks
Would you put a cap on your stack?? I know there not supplied but seems like you would. Great video. I’m Starting my 760 shortly for the first time, using for radiant floor heat source.
I did to keep rain out
Greg judy!? Lol
Has anyone tried putting wood chips inside the unit? Sounds like it would be toxic and not a good idea. What are your thoughts?
If a person wanted to burn wood chips the furnace would need a blower to inject air into the fire box. You would need to stir them more often as well. I just stuck to cut fire wood. Thanks for watching,Kevin
We have the 6048 unit. Love it. Replacing the seal soon. Thanks for the video.
Wood consumption depends on the draft that te stove uses. My boiler has a natural draft instead of a blower draft. 4 +/- cord a season heating 1300 square feet at 74° along with the water heater in Mid Michigan.
If you have a natural draft you will use less wood. Good to hear from a good old Michigan man. Thanks for watching. Kevin
