This was not working for me because I was using the VSTi version of the FM8 plugin instead of the VST version. Apparently VSTi plugins can only generate sound but cannot take input and work as effects.
How do you assign midi to play with the inputted massive patch, as i am not hearing any synthesis unless i press the fm8 keyboard with the mouse. I have a midi track playing massive on sequencer , but no FM synthesis is happening.(5:19)?
Hi yes its working in massive. What is happening is inside FM8 Fx ,additive synthesis is not occurring.Is this something to do with logic's channel, or CC assignments within the FM8 's options ?I have tried it on two different Macs and nothing inside Fm8 is occurring besides the original signal via IN being processed.
But we're using FM8 as an insert here, so it's not FM synthesis rather using FM8's effects on other sounds. We can do some limited stuff in the FM matrix to effect the sound, but if you want fully functioning FM synthesis then you need to load FM8 as an audio instrument. Using the FM matrix to effect the sound, the way I do at 5:19, can be temperamental. I just tried setting this up again, the MIDI region was loop for a minute before the FM modulations had an effect, strangely enough it was only when I started messing with the envelope in Operator F that it started to have an effect, even though there was already plenty of routing happening in the FM matrix.
I have the same problem as Ant Nobie. With FM8 as an insert, the midi doesn't reach FM8 to trigger the operators that modulate the input. It's only when you press the FM8's little keyboard (at the same time as MIDI going into the carrier) that you can hear it working.
What's up ADSR peeps! Love the tutorials I watch them all the time to help me come up with new ideas when producing. Quick question on the FM8 that wasn't covered in this video... Can you use the FM8 arp as an effect for another synth? I'm currently using Live 9 and I want to arp this sound I have going but I can't seem to figure out how to do it. Any help would be appreciated... Thanks a mil and cheers!
Burke Fralic Unfortunately you can't use the FM8 arp as a MIDI effect. However Live has an arp option as a MIDI effect you could use. Or if you would much prefer to programme arp's using the FM8 arp, you could programme an arp in FM8 using a simple saw or sine wave, and then convert the clip to audio and audio to score it for the MIDI - though using the arp effect in live would be much easier.

FM8 still impressive and flexible.
It doesn't work when I us it as an insert. I use FL Studio 11. Any assistance?

I turned up the "IN" volume on the bottom of the FM matrix.
So with this, I could use Incoming sounds as carriers for FM synths?
+pianoaddict772 Yes, you could pass another FM synth through the FM8 insert, and then use the operators in FM8 to modulate the signal.
