    Hello Mark, thanks for sharing the video!
    After the new battery being installed, the programming has to be done to let the ECU know that the car getting a new battery. If this does not get done, the car ECU would still think the battery was old, and the battery might get overcharged. It might result in pre-mature failure for the charging alternator and the new battery. Thanks, Edward Wang

      Just got my 2015 x5 battery replaced did it myself . Funny there’s two batteries in the trunk . The main big battery and a smaller one , go figure. Anyway took it to European car dealer and they reset it for $44 dollars . Hope this helps.

    Thanks for the instructional video. I bought a 95ah battery from Costco and it installed perfectly into my 2011 X6.
    I then used Carly to register the new battery. Afterwards all that was required was a new time set and short drive to set the 4x4. Easy.

    Mark, you had mentioned your battery failed many times due to glow plug system. May be because you didn’t program the battery? The system will overcharge the battery and kill it early

  • @ldragosro

    I didn't register the battery to the car. The intelligent battery sensor blew up and cost me about 800CAD to fix it ( 500 the sensor plus 300 diagnostic and labour )

    Performed this yesterday, there will be codes that pop up even if you did everything right, but they will go away after your first drive. But you Will and Should visit your dealer or factory trained tech for a battery reset! Even they company (Excide) where I bought my battery recommended this.

  • @chrise202
    @chrise202 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    You need to register the new battery in the ECU. And if the amps are different you'll also have to code it. Otherwise your battery lifetime is under risk.

    Alot of people commenting about programming. Is there programming involved or any other thing thats missed out after installing a new battery?

    • @gilgonzalez5902
      @gilgonzalez5902 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes it must be programmed via the scan tool, if not you will have issues in the long run because these vehicles use an intelligent battery system or IBS which is what that big red unit is on top of the battery.

    Hallo I have a question, more like help lol, I tried jumping my battery because of the cold weather, from the back inside the trunk I did it twice the first time it worked out got it charged and started, the second time tried doing it the same way and I tried to start it and the dash and center triangle lights were just flickering, and the key piece got stuck inside ignition, I have a e70 x5 2007, do you know what I did wrong, could it be the battery not getting any juice anymore when I charge it.

    Forgot the most important part, if you don’t code the new battery into the computer it will fry it. The car thinks it’s a 5 year old battery and will overcharge it.

    Hi Mark, I had my 2012 bmw x5 battery fail in our recent minus 30+ deg C weather. It was down outside for about a week. When it warmed up I finally got it inside and replaced the battery with a new AGM. Everything went well, thanks to your video, but now I has a “passenger restraint system failure” message and air bag light on. I think this is likely due to the bad battery - low voltage. I tried scanning with my OBD 2 scanner but nothing. Do you have any experience with this and how to fix?

    • @ECPP

      Hi Vince l, sometimes after driving the car a few miles, these faults disappear. Also, you may need to get the battery coded so the computer life resets.

    Mark, you do good videos but really lack the technical knowledge to prevent others from making horrible mistakes. Appreciate it but you REALLY need to show folks following technical bulletins. Physically replacing the battery is easy but as others have commented, which you fail to reply or acknowledge, ensuring proper programming is key to long battery life.

    • @javiert8827
      @javiert8827 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Monika is correct. You have to have someone with BMW systems access and Reset the battery charging Logic board. So that it charges the new battery a lower rate than an old battery. Right now the board is charging the battery at a higher rate because the last battery was dying and old.

      There's a small black tab in the center of the truck door (inside the car). If you pop it out it will have a metal cord attached to it. You have to a good pull. Once that tab is placed back or is not being actively pulled, the door locks again.

    • @eggsandham2245
      @eggsandham2245 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't know if it's the same as a 2007 X5, but I recently replaced the washer reservoir (and pumps) in my 2011 x5m. Apparently it's fairly common to have algae growth in the tank and it clogs up the pumps (there are two pumps - one for windshield washer, the other for high pressure headlamp washer). It was quite an effort to get access to the reservoir (inside the front right wing, aft of the wheel well. You'll need to remove the wheel well covers, wheel well surround, you'll have to loosen the front wing, also the whole front end / bumper (both sides), also the rocker panel (under the doors) on right side as well as the windshield weather strip where it meets the wing. It's a considerable amount of work but entirely do-able if you're careful and deliberate. Far better than bringing it to a bmw dealer - my experience is that anything done at dealer workshop is extremely expensive (at least on an M). Biggest obstacle was the fear of getting started. Genuine parts (the reservoir and pumps) can be purchased at auto parts at a fraction of the cost at BMW parts center.....and order a box of plastic push-snaps online.

    Start the engine to see ANOTHER trouble code I see--I just watched the other video and saw the tach. acting very erratic. Probably not a cheap battery as most diesel vehicles have a very high CCA. I put a new 800 CCA battery in my Jeep from Walmart and it was 100.00 to replace the Optima red top that barely lasted 4 years, I feel those are overrated and only better for certain applications
