    Kaufman trailers are considered cheaply made. For regular cars there okay, once u start hauling big suvs and diesel trucks, you constantly have to weld it. Not made to haul heavy. There nice, just gotta always work on them, especially with a trailer that has the 7k triple axle. The best kaufman is the 50ft lowboy with 10k axles, and even then theirs cracks here and there, if your hauling heavy. But even better, if you can afford it, a suncountry 53ft lowboy, you can haul anything on that thing and not worry.

    Welcome to the club! Those flip outs will be a dream. 3/4 inch bar welded across each axle! Helps reduce flex. More durable. Interested seeing your experience as a car hauler

    Ran the exact setup you have there for a guy. That trailer with the two flippers is the bomb! I ran CDL so non-CDL likely makes the rear flipper problematic. The front is still valuable without the rear. You wont get 4 cars, but you can adjust the distribution on the three you are hauling. Climbing the pivots does take some getting used to. But coming from backing a full size pickup trucks up on top of an 18 wheeler made that a non-issue.

    I got the same trailer the rear flips are in the way for the most part. But they come in handy when you have a low stance car. You flip them down it lowers the load angle. We use grip tape (like what's on the deck of a skate board uline sell a commercial version of it)on the ribs on the bottom side of the flip and added an extra price of metal between the ribs. Also when you replace the tires bump up to 14 ply trans eagle sells them much tougher side wall for when you are riding heavy

    • @LoadMizer
      @LoadMizer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly grip tape was my first thought but then just realized I can never roll with them out with a bed on the truck so just decided to remove them for now. That’s a big yes on the tires. I was honestly about to switch to 14 ply on the PJ but knew I was about to get a car hauler so I decided to wait. These still have a ton of tread left so it may be a while but 14 is what’s going on next for sure 👍👍

    exact setup I am getting. Currently using a F250 with a 35.5 two car kaufman trailer and getting a new Ford F350 this week. Called Kaufman and they can have the new trailer available within a month. I want to 50 ft. tri axle with 6 ft ramps on top. I know about the weights and positions of vehicles, but how do these guys get away with hauling 3 full size pickups on those trailers and not be over weight or over GVWR?

  • @camprose
    @camprose 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    4 small cars, 3 trucks\vans\suvs that's about all she'll hold mate, the flippers on the front will give ya some extra wiggle room... I dragged the same trailer carrying cars, trailers, small campers and a lot of garbage that had to be winched or forked on and off .

    We bought 2 from old man Kaufman at the same time. One didn;t make back to the yard. The other made two or three runs before crapped out on a driver before being loaded. (whew) Had to argue with them over the second. They claimed we were overloading them! Sold both and bought 2 Texas trailers that were good..The bestvare Featherlite and Goldrush but you get a longwait! I got smart and bought a couple 9-cars then a 10 car. But, that time I had the business going strong had stopped all broker loads except when they call us. Good luck to everyone Especially now with the fuel prices.

    Nice trailer! I see guys running the northeast with lo-pro Kaufman wedges with a single axle tandem, presumably a 12k axle. I really like that setup as it reduces the turning drag coefficient on the tires that one experiences with the twin or triple axle. My old Kaufman was converted to twin axles, and that twisting on the 7k axles ran me thru some bearings in short order it seemed. Might be something to look into.
    I think that was a spare tire mount on the passenger side I believe. Totally agree with those rear flips.... very hard to get up and over. Quite frankly I think those things are rather dangerous due to extreme overhang - and with the bed on your truck it would put you oversize anyhow so good call on pulling them. I thought I had your setup in my memory so I could look out for you before with the other trailer -- now I gotta change it up lol.
    Be safe out there... over and out.

Side hooks are to hold aluminum ramps, but u ramps in back.. suggest getting 10’ ramps, make life easier along with swivel straps. • @LoadMizer
      @LoadMizer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I recommend a 3 car hauler. Mainly because most guys start out with a 3500 and it’s just not enough truck to pull anything over a 3 car setup. Most days it’s not even enough truck for 3 heavy vehicles. Also there is the cost difference plus maintenance involved with the hydraulic system of a 2 tier trailer. You’ve also got height limitations on the upper and lower deck because of that. I’d personally start with a 3 car and move up from there when you start having capacity issues 👍

    The 3 car kaufman wedge, did you keep using the gooseneck or a 5th wheel? Just got a new truck and deciding on a gooseneck or 5th wheel for the trailer. which do you prefer?

    • @LoadMizer
      @LoadMizer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I kept the gooseneck setup because I knew I wasn’t going to continue doing this for much longer. I’d definitely go fifth wheel though. There were a few brokers I couldn’t haul for because they required it, plus the stability and ease of connecting and disconnecting the trailer makes it worth it hands down.

    Words of Wisdom replace the Hand Jack with Power Lift Jack. Why? I pulled into a Flying J and Had to get fuel...directly across there was a Fuel Station with Diesel for 1/2 Price. I could not get into the Fuel Island with the Trailer and I could Not Decouple to get fuel because the weight on Top. I was force to Pay Double for fuel.
    If I had Hydraulic Jack's then piece of Cake... Decouple and Fuel. This happens a lot- with manual Jack you can not simple drive away for any reason. Hydraulic Jack is Worth the Upgrade-Every Penny Plus.
    I Loved Car Hauling. Next time I would do it with a Hotshot Step Deck with Air Ride, LIFT Axial, and Electric Over Hydraulic Disc Breaks. You also have the Option of Running Cars and Freight with the same trailer on All Lanes
    Been there done that👍

    Your numbers are good for the whole total “26000” pounds GCWR but remember. If your trailer like you said is a “14000” GVWR and it’s curb weight is “4400”pounds you are left with 9600 pounds that that particular trailer can hold. Everything after that you are overweight on those 2 axels. Why do I say 2 axels? Because normally a 14000 GVWR trailer comes with 2 (7000) pound axels. Which means overweight tickets. So “7500” pick up curb weight + “4400” trailer curb weight leaves you with “14100” of payload “3 cars each @4700 curb weight “ it’s wrong. If you pull all that extra weight you will be destroying your axels in a matter of a month or so. Each unit, tractor and trailer, have a PAYLOAD that needs to be respected if you want everything to run smooth and safe.

    Bro,
    That's a 1200 dollar winch🤑
    The selonoid housing on the winch is not water proof says Pierce.
    Get a winch cover or seal the selonoid housing.
    Raise your tag above the rear cross bar, it will drag and go by by.
    What's your over all length? With rear flip outs you will 4 sure be over 65🤔🙄.
    Look at the key number on your lock box and order one thru Ebay, your straps will walk away. You will have no problem in the snow with the mesh top, snow will fall thru. Welcome to car hauling. You are on suicide watch from this point on....lol

    • @LoadMizer
      @LoadMizer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I was told it was a high dollar winch lol. The tag is on a little hinge and moves with the trailer when it drags 👍. Overall length is good but will be over with the flips for sure. That’s cab and chassis territory. I don’t mind the scene just yet. I know I already hate most dealerships. Don’t even care how or if a truck can maneuver off the street. 😂
