When I originally took the Asvab test I scored low before I went to Boot Camp. My recruiter was a senior chief petty officer who believe it or not, was very upfront and honest with me some people don’t have that same experience, before I left home for Boot Camp, he wrote a letter guaranteeing me. I could be a radioman in the Navy. Which was his way of convincing me and my family to go into the Navy. Well, when I was in Boot Camp, and they were looking at designations for each recruit, the officer pulled up my file, and said that I did not score high enough on the asvab to become a radioman, I said sir there should be a letter in that file from my recruiter saying that I am guaranteed that designation. He looked at the file and said recruit. You are absolutely correct there is a letter in your file that guarantees you that rating and he sent it through. I was a radioman during my career in the Navy. When he said those things to me, though, while I was in line with the other recruits, I thought oh no, my recruiter lied to me I will end up as a boatswain’s mate because we all heard the story that recruiters lie to you to get you to sign up, and I thought about that at that time, the person that was reviewing my file would tell me that I was not qualified. I think that being a radioman was the best job in the Navy compared to some jobs like machinist mates.
I was a radioman On a guided missile destroyer, our department was near the bridge. It was an air-conditioned space blasting cold air and was a secured area when other department would come up to get their radio messages we would lift up a sliding hatch or window, when we opened it the person on the other side, got a blast of cold air always. The machinist mates among others would come up to get their messages. they were very envious of us being in that cool environment, while they were working in the greasy engine room, we always had clean clothes. Also we did not have to stand any other watches other than radio watches.
That's very true about HT's being in charge of all of the ships plumbing systems. As civilians, plumbers are one of the highest paid professions in the world. I'm a retired Navy Nuke EM and my 1st civilian job pay @ NASA's power plant was unreal. I still work for the DOD and joining the Navy Nuke program is the best decision I ever made! Back to the HT's, they were in engineering with us and they did a lot more than plumbing. They were also the ships welders, carpenters and metallurgist. My SRB's were off the charts, and yes, our ASVABS were in the top 1%. 99 is the highest you can score (I scored a 96). I love your videos! They help bring awareness to the new generation of potential and new sailors. God Speed to you and Go Navy!!
I recently took the PICAT and scored a 93 on it, my recruiter told me I should consider the nuclear field in the Navy. He told me it's hard and very challenging, but I've been considering it. Do you think the Nuke program is really worth it? Also, what was your pay for your NASA job?
I scored a 97 on my asvab. You pick the job you want according to what you want do do when you get out, it's about thé training , take everything théy offer. I told my last command i was getting out, made E5, 2 NAMs, 3 sailor of quarter, sailor of year.

Yeah, I remember taking that test ages ago! I wasn't sure how i did on it, but the Navy recruiter came back all hyped up and gave me a long list of ratings to choose from. I chose the OS rating, and I was assigned to a destroyer. We went everywhere! I think I counted going to 27 different countries in the 4 1/2 years I was in the Navy. I was glad to go in....And I was glad to get out😎😎! But I wouldn't change that experience! It literally changed my life...and for the better..👌👌
I worked for a BMC while I was on recruiting duty. He loved the rate. Once he made BMSN he was a supervisor. I was an HM and I worked with many nukes. They are a different breed. Good luck with your career.

I don't have my ged and HS diploma they don't require one as of 2024 so I'm going to enlist. Minimum score on asvab is 50.. I took 2 practices and my average is 47. I can do it 💯 see you in 2 months navy.
I'm a fellow PS2. I agree with your worst rates, but the thing is that all the Nukes I've separated have gone on to big paying jobs with better worklife balance. There's a reason why the Navy is desperate to reenlist them. I hear fellow shipmates who talk about an EMFN who had enough of the BS and got ADSEP. That same EMFN is making more money on the outside without the shipboard BS. I've been in 7 years now, and I don't plan on reenlisting. I don't regret the experience I got from being in the Navy, but I've got the rate and Collateral Duty that will directly translate to a number of decent federal jobs when I get out. NO amount of money is worth another 4 years of Sea Duty. As a fellow PS, I'm sure you've noticed the 48 Month Sea Tours that are being advertised on My Navy Assignment now
personally I hope you stay in ... you are having the best times of your life and one day you will look back on it and realize the friends you made there and the experiences you have will be rewarding in ways you can't imagine right now. . . people sometimes think they will be brainwashed and become robots but clearly you have your personality and you are what its all about ... you are an outstanding sailor... I wish you all the best in all your adventures.
Regarding telling people your plans, I would encourage people to share true intentions during a CDB (Career Development Board), and certainly with your Chief (assuming you trust them). "The Good Ones" will try to help you be ready for your goals regardless of whether you plan to get out or stay in, and being ready a few years ahead, before you go to TAP, is certainly good. I get it, not everyone is gonna help. But they should. Most of the Commands I've been out ranked people where they belonged even if we knew they were planning to dip. Again, that's not all Commands, but I'd rather make sure someone is set up for success when they get out, and then be excited when they decide to stay. The only exceptions for me would be: 1. if you have a command culture issue it might make sense to keep it close held. 2. If you are up for promotion, there are cases where if you've dropped paper to get out, you may not be eligible for selection (but that will be in the instruction, so you'll know if that's you). FWIW - Every rate is awesome for the right person. I know some super happy and kick-ass female ABHs, and BMs. Current Sr. Chief, for what it's worth. And JMHO, but I encourage people to talk to a SELRES Sailor if they are thinking about getting off Active. For me, it saved my career and gave me a way back in when life made Navy a good plan again (I got out as E-5, went reserve, and eventually came back). Good video and thanks for doing your best to help others be successful!
A good tailor/seamstress can put a zipper up the side of the jumper to help getting it on and off. A very narrow zipper. Hopefully there's a seam on the left side. On my pants the buttons were sewn onto the flap and it was closed by velcro. Really nice knot on your neckerchief. When you flush it goes through the CHT system, at least it used to. HT's are also the welders. "Not 8:01". Yup, I remember a strict CO on my first ship, USS Hancock CVA-19, where when liberty expired if you weren't already across the Quarterdeck it would cost you $50. Retired MMC here.
As a former submariner and STS2, I know next to nothing about the surface life. But damn... you guys get a specific rate that handles damage control and fire fighting? Must be nice. For us, that was expected out of everyone. I understand, of course, since a submarine can only fit so many bodies compared to carriers or destroyers. DC was handled by everyone (knowing how to handle fires, floods, broken pipes, and oil spills was part of qualifying for our warfare pin). The way you described HT as plumbers, our A-gangers (machinist mate auxiliary/MMA) covered that and they hated it. It wasn't specifically their job, since they're actually more of mechanical engineers than plumbers, so I can kinda see why; it's more like a side gig that they didn't ask for. Painting and chipping was handled by the first lieutenant and deck division; for us that was mostly the sonar division since we had a larger group than most and could spare a few guys. It often meant that we were strapped for hands when doing our own maintenance, though. I definitely don't miss weapons handling, particularly loading and/or off-loading torpedoes; you'd think that would be a TM's job (torpedoman). While they spear-headed that evolution, all of weapons department would get a piece of that cake (STS, FT, TM). I remember grumbling whenever I saw a nuke, specifically someone from RC-div, walking off the brow in their civvies while I was making sure a torpedo was secured and ready to load into the sub. But nukes have their own shit to deal with that we coners will never understand, so I guess it evens out to some degree.
I know prayer is RIGHT bc i definitely wrote down on that confirmation test (cuz they give you a blank paper as well and I wrote a prayer and erased it before finishing) AND I PASSED!
Hey! Awesome vid! I was wondering for your next video if you can make a video of basic standing positions in the navy. I haven't been able to find really any for the navy and if I do they are either really low quality or it doesn't show the position from the full body length. If you would be willing to do this, can you demonstrate the positions of Attention, Parade Rest (front and rear views), Hand salutes, and the facing movements? Also, if you do this, can you film your whole body so we can see what happens in each position from every angle of your body (for those that require front, side and rear views like parade rest and the facing movements). Thank you so much if you are willing to do this and thank you for your service in the navy!
I took a test at the recruiters office.....maxed out 100% score. They bothered me my entire time in the navy to go to nuclear power school. I was a MM....no interest in being in a engineering space with a nuclear reactor 🤣 i didn't realize how the testing affects your rate until later in my time in the Navy
In any armed force play every day like its your career for 30 years. Including your conduct off duty. Give it your all to the last day. Then if you decide to stay your well on the way to a great career. If you leave your not out a thing. Select a career field you understand, enjoy and suits your nature.
I remember talking to my masterchief when i first stepped onboard for a check in. Everything i wrote was getting a job outside the navy, and it is the worst mistake ive ever done. From now on, every paper they got us askin if we intend to reenlist or separate, i put reenlist cause they start treating you differently if you plan on separating, ive noticed 😂😂😂
Some of the rates which demand lower ASVAB or WKAR scores could actually be better more congenial jobs for many people such as Boatswain’s Mate or Culinary Specialist both of which are good for switching to the merchant marine if someone is interested in becoming a civilian mariner. But in general I would consider Air Traffic Controller to be the best rate in the navy overall. Then also being either a nuclear machinist’s mate or a nuclear electrician’s mate. The problem with being a Quartermaster is that you would’ve been better off as a BM if you really want to become a merchant seaman. Ship’s Serviceman is a good rate especially if you’re already a licensed barber. A real barber college licensed state barber with their 1,800 hours of practice haircuts could handle navy barbering in their sleep or hungover for the most part.
aww thank you!! 🤞🏽 I think electricians have successful careers! They don’t have a bad name at all. I don’t know much about them 😩 I’m actually interested, im going to do some research! 👍🏽
Im coming in as a CS too, for me i think positively and make the best out of it and have fun you’ll be straight. If you enjoy cooking then its for you im somewhat like to cook food 👍🏼
Good Video! I disagree w telling the chief you want to get out. It depends on the person. Most will keep you in and continue to elevate you regardless… I always try to give my folks opportunities to be on top.
Oh wow, yea they definitely should’ve mentioned that the home test counts! It’s okay girly, you have another chance so you’re all good! Good luck hun! 😭
Same here . I did the Picat test with my recruiter in his office, I told him I wasn’t prepared he said I shouldn’t worry and I should answer the questions the best way I can. He also mentioned I should try to remember the answers to the questions cos I will do a confirmation test in at MEPS. I scored 33 . To be honest with you im not happy cos that score will be my final Asvab. If I fail the confirmation questions at meps I will have to take the full Asvab again. He could have atleast been explain better then I wouldn’t have take the picat test🤦♂️🤦♂️. What jobs do i qualify with 33 Score?
@@justicedickson3688 it depends what you wanna do if you keep that 33. Id honestly recomend studying before meps and prepare for the full ASVAB and do your best for the confirmation. If you pass with a 33 thats cool but if you fail you have potential to get a higher score and more jobs.
My gripe there was little for my MOS to do in port yet we had to stay onboard until 4:00 each day. I learned how to look busy when there's nothing to do.
In the early 70s we would take our cracker jacket top and have a tailor put a concealed zipper up on side to make it easier to get on and off. My dad was in for 26 years and retired as an CT LDO LCDR. I did 22 years and retired as a CT CWO4. I loved it. Keep up the hard work. Question: are your ribbons on upside down? CWO4 Cryptology 73-95 Retired.
i'm so nervous for this asvab test it's literally been on my mind these past two days. My navy recruiter gave me a website to practice the asvab test i've been studying ever since
ouch! why did my Rate pop up 1st? you were right on a few of the cons but the best pro is 5 and 2 schedule in port so outta 30 days a month in port we work 15 days and no duty sections. i love leaving the ship at 8am wed morning and not coming back til Friday.
That is interesting that women are now wearing the cracker jacks. I did not know they switched that. I have been out of the Navy almost twenty years and they were def not wearing the crackers jacks back then. You like wearing that? Is it itchy? lol the dress uniform women wore back when I was in seemed to be way more comfortable. What cover do you wear with it?
I take my asvab in a couple more days my brain don’t even comprehend with the study guide i get more wrong than right even with trying practice not helping me I know they finna send me home🤦♂️
If you failed, I’ll recommend watching grammar hero for math, and ASVAB for dummies book for the other subjects. But honestly I would just focus mainly on math.
BT - always hot, always on sea duty, always crappy liberty rotation. It trains you to work in a paper mill. QM - always on sea duty, always dealing with the worst prick officers. If you are going into any military branch you need to seriously consider what skills you can transfer to the rest of your life when you get out.
PO Brionna, Are your ribbons correct on your uniform? In the Army, in order of precedence, we'd have the single ribbon on the top row and the three ribbons on the bottom row.
LOL just came across your video. I'm a Seabee. Give me a reaction videos on Seabees, there's some good videos out there. We are the best rates in the Navy.
I’m really worried about my test out I’m fresh out of highschool and I think I just need some time of more information can you make a video just talking about the text please u really help me calm down my nerves by keeping it real

Nice post Ive been collecting 25 k from the Navy for the last 40+ years since 1980 if you do 20 years you get a pension tax free so itss like retire at 38 or get 50k a year for doing just 20 Twenty willl go by anyway get paid then you wont need to work if you don't want to!!!!!!!
@@Jr0CCThaL0GC4L hello yes if you do 20 years in the military you get half of your salary tax free as pension so if your making 50k as a master chief then you would get 25k if however your an E6 not E8 then you would get 50% of your salary whatever the rate of pay is for your rank and you would get tricare healthcare so go to a VA hospital and talk to some retired veterans
.first day i arrived oboard i checked in and found an empty bunk in BM division. It was temporary and the next day i was happy to get transferred. I thought i was back in boot camp it was pretty rough.

Hi, I love your videos and watching your channel also! I have one question I go to Meps tomorrow to take the ASVAB for the navy. What’s the highest score that I can make on it ?
Honestly it depends on your rate, if your something like a OS it’s easy to rank up, but if your something like a engineering rate or HM, it’ll be a little harder/longer to rank up
y’all the video clips popped up late in the video 😅 those are the clips of what I was doing while being UNDES. Sorry for that! lol

Thank you for sharing your experience! As a civilian, It's so interesting to read this and watch videos wondering if I should get into it or not
There are no damage control rates in the Royal Navy either, even on surface ships. It's something that everyone gets involved in.
Awww I GOT YOU! Thank youuu for the idea! Love it! ❤️
@@Brionnasonline thank you soo much! I can’t wait to see it!
Lol! You’re funny. Thanks for all the info on the rates. Also, thanks for complimenting my son’s rate.
Ofcourse! Thanks for watching and supporting!! ☺️🤗
I'm heading out here in april to be a MMN, sounds like it'll be hard work, but I'm honestly looking forward to it
Not worth it. Good luck
Me to I have to take my asvab tho nervous
@@arodgamer1 how’d you do?
Ribbons are upside down and not in the correct precedence order. Thanks for keeping it real
No need to broadcast! I made it clear that they were on wrong. Thanks tho.
SHUT UP. @seanjones7474 or get blocked from my channel. YOU look bad
thank you for this video i ship july 5th very nervous but this helped my nerves
you’re so welcome sweetheart 💗🫶🏽
I’ve been binge watching you and 911babygoat! I’m about to join I got to meps on Monday! Would you say that the electricians is a good rate to go?
aww thank you!! 🤞🏽 I think electricians have successful careers! They don’t have a bad name at all. I don’t know much about them 😩 I’m actually interested, im going to do some research! 👍🏽
That’s what i wanna know too
Subscribed! Love this video lol funny and informative! Im going to the recruiting office today and apply
my brother is in the navy i’m trying to understand thank you
Loved this video THANK YOU QUEEN
CS HERE 😭😭😭😭 I really hope I can change my mos afterward.. I’m really a pretty girl!
It can most definitely be done, speak to your command career counselor. I did it!
You can boo! 🫶🏽
Im coming in as a CS too, for me i think positively and make the best out of it and have fun you’ll be straight. If you enjoy cooking then its for you im somewhat like to cook food 👍🏼
Who cares if you're pretty? Can you do your job?
now that im done with everything , I can very much do the job its easy. when I say pretty it doesn't mean looks. thank you

Great vid! This helps a lot, i ship april for boot. Thank you! ⚓️

ABH here it’s pretty cool!!!!
Good Video! I disagree w telling the chief you want to get out. It depends on the person.
Most will keep you in and continue to elevate you regardless…
I always try to give my folks opportunities to be on top.
I’m going to meps on Wednesday to swear in and pick my job😭 I’ve been in DEP for a while and I’m so excited broo
aww congrats boo & good luck!
Hello,
You should make a video about the VA loans!!
That unused clips method helped alot THANK U
My recuiter never even told me the test he gave me at home is important.
I literally cried at meps when I failed the first time at meps
Oh wow, yea they definitely should’ve mentioned that the home test counts! It’s okay girly, you have another chance so you’re all good! Good luck hun! 😭
@@Brionnasonline Thanjs I really appreciate 〽️
@@emilianobecerrabecerra7651 I got ABF (Aviation boatswain’s fuel. Not what I wanted but it’s a start. Not being a citizen kinda limited my options
Love your energy. I passed my asvab and physical. Just waiting on my waiver
What's the waiver for?
u putting on ur blues was too real cus that blouse be beating my ass every time lol
The newer uniforms have zipppers which makes it easy to put on and remove.
I was looking at your ribbons and wondering what ships you have served?
My gripe there was little for my MOS to do in port yet we had to stay onboard until 4:00 each day. I learned how to look busy when there's nothing to do.
In the early 70s we would take our cracker jacket top and have a tailor put a concealed zipper up on side to make it easier to get on and off. My dad was in for 26 years and retired as an CT LDO LCDR. I did 22 years and retired as a CT CWO4. I loved it. Keep up the hard work. Question: are your ribbons on upside down? CWO4 Cryptology 73-95 Retired.
I love warfare pins so dope
i'm so nervous for this asvab test it's literally been on my mind these past two days.
Test at home!? What’d you say your recruiters name was again?
That is interesting that women are now wearing the cracker jacks. I did not know they switched that. I have been out of the Navy almost twenty years and they were def not wearing the crackers jacks back then. You like wearing that? Is it itchy? lol the dress uniform women wore back when I was in seemed to be way more comfortable. What cover do you wear with it?
Great job on the video. USN 95 - 05 GSE2
Been in the navy 12 years and watched this outta boredom. First 15 seconds let me know u know what youre talking bout
BT - always hot, always on sea duty, always crappy liberty rotation. It trains you to work in a paper mill. QM - always on sea duty, always dealing with the worst prick officers. If you are going into any military branch you need to seriously consider what skills you can transfer to the rest of your life when you get out.
I’m going in March 30th as a YNS and transfer to a MT or IT after two years 😁
i’m going in march 8th, my rate was a YN but luckily my recruiters switched me to the rate i wanted

Thank you sooo much for these tips! Lol especially the one about telling them if you plan on staying or not. Its really none of their business anyway.
PO Brionna, Are your ribbons correct on your uniform? In the Army, in order of precedence, we'd have the single ribbon on the top row and the three ribbons on the bottom row.
I believe she accidentally put it upside down. I'm sure she corrected it.
I’m just a dumb army guy but why are the ribbons upside down

Nice post Ive been collecting 25 k from the Navy for the last 40+ years since 1980 if you do 20 years you get a pension tax free so itss like retire at 38 or get 50k a year for doing just 20 Twenty willl go by anyway get paid then you wont need to work if you don't want to!!!!!!!
You get 50k or 20k pension after 20 years??
@@Jr0CCThaL0GC4L hello yes if you do 20 years in the military you get half of your salary tax free as pension so if your making 50k as a master chief then you would get 25k if however your an E6 not E8 then you would get 50% of your salary whatever the rate of pay is for your rank and you would get tricare healthcare so go to a VA hospital and talk to some retired veterans
.first day i arrived oboard i checked in and found an empty bunk in BM division. It was temporary and the next day i was happy to get transferred. I thought i was back in boot camp it was pretty rough.
Question when your at a port do you stay in the barracks or you have to live on the ship ?
After my first deployment, we came back and lived onboard. After my 2nd deployment, we were moved to barracks. If you have BAH, then just get an apt. out in town.
im not going to remember for fucking question's when i go lol
Can you make a video about BM please ?
Thank you for spilling the tea, but became what you say online sis they watch the videos
Thanks for watching! I can say whatever I want haha, I have no worries. Thanks though! ☺️🤞🏽
I literally love your channel
hi, i'm shipping out on september 4th as an EM. what do you think about that rate?
So if you want to be a Navy police officer do you know what score you wii need on the ASVAB
So the rate for that is MA, “Master at Arms”. You can type that in on google and do a little research, it will tell you everything about it!
It doesn’t go by a set score, you have to score well by whatever that rate’s line scores require.
ALWAYS TELL THEM YOU’RE STAYING IN, PUT YIUR REENLISTMENT PACKAGE IN, STILL GO TO TRS BUT DENY THE PACKAGE WHEN IT COMES TIME TO SIGN OFFICIAL PAPERWORK 💯 Is this Woman single though 🤣
You should hang long enough to get the LDO program, you won’t be disappointed.
How in the world does a Petty Officer 2nd Class Personnelman have both the Enlisted Aviation Warfare and the Surface Warfare specialist pins with just over 4 years in the service? I barely had enough time to do my regular job before I got my first pin at the 11 year mark.
She seems fast
I did five years, at five commands in the west coast Navy, deployed twice...it was impossible to get both devices in that short timeframe
Hi, I love your videos and watching your channel also! I have one question I go to Meps tomorrow to take the ASVAB for the navy. What’s the highest score that I can make on it ?
Thanks for the support! I believe the highest you can make on the ASVAB is a 90
It’s actually a 99, just looked it up.
Thanks 🥰!
I ship out in 2 days!!
What’s your Navy rate if you don’t mind me asking?
I’m a PS!
@@BrionnasonlineI thought you were a PN. Had to look up PS. A bunch of stuff has changed in the last 25 years.
Hi Brionna, quick question, how did you rank up quickly within the 4 years you were in the Navy ?
Honestly it depends on your rate, if your something like a OS it’s easy to rank up, but if your something like a engineering rate or HM, it’ll be a little harder/longer to rank up
When you made this video was it a 10 around this time
YOU DEFINITELY DIDNT LIE ABOUT BEING A BM 😡 PEOPLE AT MEPS DEFINITELY GOT ME 😂 CROSS RATING ASAP!!
I leave march 1st for gsm was told it was a good rate
