  • Real vs Fake Arduino Test
    It's possible - there are a lot of fakes out there. Maybe you bought a counterfeit Arduino. Was it priced lower that normal? Is it missing the small details that make it a genuine Arduino board? Watch the video to find out if your Arduino is real or fake. If you don't know where to buy a genuine Arduino, you can get one from the Arduino shop at www.arduino.cc/

    I saw "test" in the title and got excited that someone was actually going to test the counterfit vs the fake for once... Oh well, time to move on.

    All those people, who are writing that the board on the left is not a fake but just an unofficial version, are wrong. The board on the left uses the same logo as the original, which is not allowed by Arduino's licence. If the fake board was called "SHITduino" or something else, then it would fine. But using Arduino's logo by other companies isn't allowed.

      It also says made in italy, which is not only fraud by itself but also proves undoubtedly that they want the customer to think that it's an original one made by arduino (as opposed to calling it arduino r3 just because it's a microcontroller using the same design as the original one that everyone knows, which would still be a crime (trademark and shit), just less severe)

Great for Linux (Supported out of the box ). Needs a driver installed for windows. But the CH34X works fine. It's just another serial interface. They work fine. Have you had problems with the CH340?

    There exists no "fake" or "original" arduino boards.
    Everyone is able the produce these boards as they are open platform.
    You can even download the pcb designs and produce one arduino board yourself.
    As long as there is no technical/compatibility problem there is no issue.
    Until now I have bought some "original" boards and some "fake" boards and they all work 100% as it should be.

    When the design is published as open-source, even down to the PC board files, and people encouraged to make them, how can any of them be called "fake?"
    Even the Arduino community was, until recently, divided into two camps, both claiming to be the legitimate provider.
    I've bought genuine Arduino boards and supported the designers, and yeah, some of the cheapest clones are crap too, but there are very good quality ones available in the middle and there is no reason to not take advantage of them.

    so what are the pro's and con's apart from components? One can get a PCB and solder the components themselves, but if it works out the same. One could play with the "copy/clone" and finalized on a the genuine article. I don't disagree with supporting Arduino at all, but it is open sourced.

    • @julesverne6287

      The people that make the fake boards (not clones, clones are perfectly fine), are leeches, and are charging unknowing people into paying a premium for what at first appears to be real. But it's not. Real boards obviously are usually of the highest quality, and obviously, money made from them goes back to the company. But these fake boards cost more, and don't give that premium back to the organization. Everybody loses - you get a shoddily made, sub par product, Arduino doesn't get their cut when somebody intends to buy original brand. The people that manufacture the fakes are scum and exploit the open nature of the board for simple monetary gain, with no regard for where the designs come from.

    When Radio Shack came out with the PC Clones, the fact that they were not genuine PCs didn't matter, because they where better than original IBM PCs. The same is to do a real test to see if the functionality is the same. If it is, I don't care, it does the job, and we save money. Who cares about esthetics?

    I suppose the correct distinction is "clone" as the board is as functional as the genuine Arduino. To say that it's fake the board has to be missing some essential functionality, the intrinsic value of the board (the raw materials and components) is no more or less than the clone version, so it's safe to say that if you want to buy just for the sake of functionality then the clone version is your inexpensive choice. But, of course since it's open-source the developers deserve some support to help them improve their existing products and create something new and unique.

      True, I came by a counterfeit UNO that looks and performs exactly like a genuine one, with 40% of the price. all the components were in place and soldered very well.. no problems at all..
      Arduino itself is a copy of the Wiring project. so there's no point of buying genuines in the first place.

    • @JohnL90808
      @JohnL90808 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Al-Moutasm Bellah Rajab Part of what you pay for the Arduino goes to the development which helps improve the support of various libraries meant for the Arduino environment, because it's open-source, they cannot license to anyone which is a source of income. In a way, by buying the genuine boards you are helping Arduino remain open-source and free to use for anyone. I use my genuine board for research and development, I buy clones for the purpose of permanently embedding them onto a specialized build, as I do not like to spend my time and energy building an actual prototype with the exemption of commercial purposes.

    • @christianwuethrich2222
      @christianwuethrich2222 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I think it is counterfeit because it ckaims to be a genuine Arduino board but it is not. It is only a Arduino compatible board. You can buy compatible board in the far east, where it is never writen Arduino or made in Italy, and on which the build quality is far better than the example of the video, almost as good as a genuine Arduino.

      not always true... there are many boards of varying quality, some will die quickly due to inccorectly sized capacitor / poor component quality. There are some good 3rd party boards available but they all have their own names and branding... this particular board is made to be a counterfeit of a genuine board, these are usually ones to stay away from as they are made to maximise profit and don't care about customer.. many of the good 3rd party board makers are proud to put their own name on them, i.e ruggedino etc.

      Well cloning is fine, but they never say Arduino & Made in Italy tag. It would just say UNO, Mega 2560 etc. and not claim to be have Arduino labels or mimic the original labels. They fake ones try to say it's original and people might get confused at times. Well they work fine, but just make sure people don't get scammed into paying a higher price for a fake thinking they are getting a genuine one.

    There is no fake. Fake does not exist in the world of open source. Only closed source does.
    You should change the title to OFFICIAL vs UNOFFICIAL. The board on the right side is officially designed and distributed by ARDUINO itself. That doesn't mean anyone can't copy the design and sell it for profit. ARDUINO won't sue u. That's the beauty of Open Source Hardware (OSH).

      Joe Blow they give nothing to the community of makers? Well what they do give us is a cheap board that allows people who can't afford an expensive board to become a maker. Sure buying an official arduino board is cool but the price is not. Last I check its 30 dollars. Which is a lot. And idk if they are a for-profit company but if they are they are definitely milking their board and design while they can. Most makers have multiple boards and most makers are younger individuals who make in order to save money or in order to learn. 30 something dollars is too much for a simple board. It costs less than 5 dollars to manufacture those boards. And software wise I'm sure they sell enough boards in a day to pay the salary of their developers.
