    As Robert Lamm himself pointed out once, Terry was incredible on rhythm and his leads were “world-class stuff”.
    James William Guercio (Chicago’s producer/manager during their classic period) simply said that Terry was “a monster on guitar” and even pointed out that Mr. Kath had the most talent of anyone in Chicago.

    He was just amazing, Terry hits the runway at 2:+ and then takes flight

    Kath is one of the most underrated guitarists in rock history. Like David Gilmour, a giant part of Kath’s groove was playing what was necessary to make a track awesome, and throwing in soulful solos when needed. BTW, dude is flat out going OFF at the end of this track, I love how he throws in some Stones licks!

    Listen to those laser guns at 2:13! That never really jumped out at me in the full recording, but now I hear it when I go back and listen. This guy was insane on guitar

      That is fucking crazy. This guy was like a dirtier yet still more technically proficient Hendrix. I alway knew Chicago because it was my dad's favorite band, and he liked all the later ballads and stuff (which are alright), but man, this was real rock and roll right here.

    Don't think I can say anything that hasn't been said already, this is fucking awesome, but let me dedicate to this comment to that amazing tone. So dirty, just the right crunch.

    I know Terry was a big fan of the Pignose amp, this sure sounds like a good example of using it in the studio. Guess now I have to dig mine out and give it a go!........OK, did, and yes thats the sound!

    Terry Kath was obviously taming his guitar like a cowboy tames his bronco..... the man is a complete animal on guitar

    THIS IS INCREDIBLE. Thanks for putting this together. Been trying to learn this one on guitar, and as the previous poster said, he tends gets buried under the horns lol

      The horns are pretty epic but man it's a shame we lose Kath's guitar

    Excellent and fun.
    Is that ISO from the studio version, though? In all the dozens and dozens of listens, I never heard the "Jumpin' Jack Flash" elements!

      +Daniel J. Phillips That's because he was usually buried under a mountain of horns

      +Daniel J. Phillips I've never heard it this clearly either, but it is definitely on the studio version.

      Wow.... I've listened to this a couple hundred times. Never heard the Jumpin Jack Flash vocal by, I think, Peter or the guitar by Terry.

    Was this taken from a Quad mix? The first time I noticed the Jumping Jack Flash riff was playing a Quad tape in a regular two channel 8-track player.

      not just Jumpin Jack Flash. Towards the end theres a Satisfaction riff in there too. I love hearing broken down multis.

      @martinspisak8013 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      they're singing "Let's spend the night together"... a nod to the Stones

    • @Doommaster1994
      @Doommaster1994 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Do you know what they sing after that? (2:58)

      @geoffreydlang 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      At 2:48 and 3:41 Terry Kath quotes the 'Jumpin Jack Flash' guitar riff and tops it off with 'Satisfaction' at 3:47.

    Did Kath do TWO tracks, or just the one?

      good question

    • @TheBillyKmusic
      @TheBillyKmusic 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, in some parts, it certainly sounds like two.

    • @bibchr
      @bibchr 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@TheBillyKmusic But it's hard to tell with him, since he pretty much could do rhythm, lead, and sing at the same time! Man was an absolute phe-nom.

      There is another guitar ISO on YT that is just guitar, and it sounds like a lower volume or phantom rhythm track mostly on the left channel, but it starts at the B part.
