Wu Zetian just did what any man would do, but cuz she was a woman she got the infamy for it. In any case she was an icon, one of the most interesting historical figures imo

People call men who kill their rivals as " warriors" & "conquerors". But when women do the same under valid circumstances, they call them " evil women".
Because we are so obsessed with the domesticated, submissive and infantile version of women that we can't even think of them as shrewd, ambitious, unapologetic and untamed. Patriarchy in a nutshell !

Powerful people tried to re-write history, still 1000 years later, the original story exists. 😄😄 And its fascinating to hear such an interesting story.
This reminds me of a dialogue in HP movie "what happened in the dungeon is a secret. So clearly the whole school knows."

I am a woman so I love that you talk about powerful women in those times when men ruled the world, I will be waiting for more stories of this type. Liu E has the special things about her, like coming from such a humble origin and becoming empress, but Wu Zetian also has this nice thing about having been the only emperor of China.

wow! from being sold by your husband at the age of 15 to being the second most powerful empress in chinese history!

This is such an interesting and amazing story that I somehow never heard of despite the many dramas I've watched. Liu E's story is amazing and its own way, so incredible.

Wow! That was amazing to hear. I watch a lot of cdrama but really know zero knowledge to Chinese history. Probably why I’m not bother with historically inaccuracy or to ignorant to notice but I get really fascinated with the story whatever the genre. When I watched ADOS I was really fascinated with the story about the king and his empress and now knowing it was based on someone else in real life is just mind n blowing.

After seeing all of your videos of ADoS, I think ADoS is the top list of the nicest Cdramas in 2022. There are many interesting things in ADoS's storyline & its aspects. Since I like a lot Cdrama which has a historical background, even only it's a bit or not 100% precisely like the real story.
Thank you so much, Avenuex for sharing with us the Chinese historical background which based the ADoS's script.

Thanks for this very interesting historical series. I hope there will be many more to come. I have just finished reading about Empress Wu so it was interesting to watch your excellent video about Empress Liu E. Both were fascinating women who obviously were also very attractive to men. I would like to hear a story where an ugly woman was very successful in ancient history political life. It has happened in modern times {Golda Meir in Israel), but not too often. If ugly men can make it, why not ugly women? That would be true equality. (Although there are some ugly women at lower levels in U.S. politics)......I really enjoyed your history lesson and will keep an eye out for this series.

Well I can tell history didn't managed to find out her actual name because such records are often times intentionally destroyed or hidden away for various reasons... This is the very reason why official records are never accurate or overly beautified as the people having access to it might have been tampered for their benefit. Even imperial medical records can be altered so it's nothing surprising that it is difficult to source for the entire accurate history...

Need to quickly crash this video to mention the just released Immortal Samsara. Does anyone else think that it might as well be a reimagined Love and Redemption?! Only Crystal Yuan is missing, 😂. One might think about changing the cast a bit more when trying to tell a different story,🤦‍♀️.

Having finished Dream of Splendour recently, I do note that though the 3 women repeatedly project themselves not as entertainers for noble men who frequent these kind of flower houses but just as dancers & musicians, their tea-house & eventual grand opening of a restaurant didn't have women frequenting it? In which case, it kind of confirms that it is merely a playground for men only to ogle these women without the presence of their family? These 3 women didn't make much of an effort to include other family members to dine at their restaurant, did they?
