- In 2045 the planet is on the brink of chaos and collapse, but people find salvation in the OASIS: an expansive virtual reality universe created by eccentric Halliday. When Halliday dies, he promises his immense fortune to the first person to discover a digital Easter egg that's hidden somewhere in the OASIS. When young Wade joins the contest, he finds himself becoming an unlikely hero in a reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical world of mystery, discovery and danger.

I love the ridiculous notion that in like 5 years of trying to beat the race, not a single person ever thought to try driving backwards from the finish line. This challenge was an invention of the movie and wasn't in the book, which I guess shows that Spielberg isn't a gamer. That clue would've been found on Day 1.
I mean there are dedicated glitch finders who literally do nothing except exploring the map all day with no plan of winning. They would have found it in the first 10 minutes of the game launch itself.

Yeah this was the most unbelievable thing about this movie. In the book I feel like someone would also discover it day one but at least with that scenerio I can suspend my disbelief enough that it doesn't ruin the story for me.
I would have then solved the first challenge in the very first day because I usually just wait and accelerate the car back wards in my game and then boost it up forward . I sometimes do win and sometimes do not but it doesn’t matter Because its fun. I still wonder how for 5 years no dumb head like me ever tried it 😂
@@asianpersuasion4901 As I recall, it was something about a secret passage in a tree stump and having to defeat a demon in a game of Joust or something.
I understand why a lot of the challenges from the book wouldn't have translated well into the movie and so they had to change them, but I always chuckle at how easy they are to figure out despite having apparently been unsolvable by legions of the most dedicated minds in the world for years.
Ready Player One's Oasis is such a cool concept. Wonder if something similar to the Oasis will exist in real life.

Even though Overgeared is an epic story, my romance would always be Emperor Weed and Grass Porridge Goddess Sooyoung. Overgeared is a cool power fantasy but The Legendary Moonlight Sculptor would be more realistic and balance as a VRMMORPG.
Fun fact: Sorrento actually planned to destroy OASIS, as per short story "Lacero" by Andy Weir, which was canonized by Cline.

This is one of those movies where you need to appreciate it separately from the novel. I read the book before I saw the movie and I thoroughly enjoyed both as their own thing.
I'm almost done reading Ready Player 2 and there's just no way they can make it into a movie the same way and Ernest Cline admitted he did that on purpose. Read the books, watch the movie. Enjoy both as their own thing.
They proved Ernest wrong about the first book and they'll do it again I bet.
Cline kinda bored me to death with those long reference walls of texts, at least it translated really well to the movie

However, I heard the 2nd book just lazy attempt to get the hype for 2nd movie. KrimsonRogue do 2 hours review of Ready Player 2 in detail about how shitty it's and how lazy the author have become.

There are dozen of games with easter eggs discovered years or decades from release, some had to have a hint from developers where to look, such as Serious Sam easter egg.
@@damsen978 Duck Hunt sold 28m copies, just 2m less than Skyrim which everyone wanks over, but it was purely because it was multiplatform.
Serious Sam wasn't the popular, just a little over 700k copies, but being DRM free it spread like wildfire on torrent network.
Again, the race easter egg was easy to find just because he read the section of a journal. Nobody tried to go full speed backwards, probably just slowly backed up.

Perhaps, but if you check for yourself, there are many easter eggs with somewhat same criteria that weren't found in first day. Such as Mortal Kombat combo or Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past...
The Headset used captures thoughts. What if the thought of it beeing the right way opened the wall behind Wade? There are many untouched or unexplained layers so we cant really say its "just" driving backwards
The Oasis is the one place that would encourage everyone to stay at home especially in times like this.

I would love for the oasis to exist because then people could connect with each other without having any self conscious thoughts like they don’t think they look good enough. Just so many opportunities for introverts to become extroverts.
@neil unger Many introverts are comfortable with their lifestyle. It’s just maybe it would be easier to talk to others in a world like the oasis. Socially awkward people may be a better term.

Game like "Oasis" definitely will exist in real life someday, but rather than people join together to find the prize, people likely to ruin the game with mods and chatroom will full of dank memes.

@@damsen978 I wouldn't mind. Tho tbh, I'm also really interested to see what other lobbies (or beings) people might create. Lovecraftian beings, alien halflings? Maybe even some old timey lobbies based on certain eras or decades. Maybe a dance club based on the 1920's theme.
That would all be really cool with the amount of creative freedom we could have in the future. Man all of this makes me want to try creating and hosting stuff like that but I gotta find time to host it and learn how to use the available resources to make them. Sheesh and I barely even have time to work on writing these days 😂

This was fun for me as all the external shots were filmed around my hometown, Birmingham in the UK...mostly around the city centre and business district.
*I Hate When a SciFi Movie* has a cool premise but then they make it all about saving the world - - some movies would just be better as having lower stakes and letting you explore the world.
I think the issue is that too make money from a movie nowadays, you really have to engage the viewer in a big story (which usually is saving the world) to make money

The Gundam making an appearance is easily the best scene in the whole film.

And Space Jam 2 did this, but weirdly better. Because, y'know, Iron Giant didn't start destroying things in Space Jam 2. Also, the dude sees Mechagodzilla, and thinks the best Gundam to turn into is the RX-78-2? Not the Wing Gundam? Or the literal GOD Gundam?!
The OG gundam is a way more iconic honestly.
Iron Giant was a weapon, wrecking shit up kinda makes it sense, considering it was just a model not character.
It would be stupid if Iron Giant tried to love and tolerate out of 101 and Mecha Godzilla.
Would have been cool if the core fighter appeared first, which combines into the RX-78-2. Also, where was it's beam rifle?
I don't know if the film was catered to the West or not, but having the Wing Zero appear would have made much more sense as Gundam Wing is popular in America. Plus, the original Gundam is BARELY known ever, including the anime fanbase.
Love the narration for this particular movie, the matching background audio makes it even better.

i really hyped for this movie cuz it book have evangelion and ultraman in it, but theres none in the movie only gundam

Yeah they couldn't get the rights for some of the other media from Japan like Evangelion and Ultraman. But they got Akira's motorbike which is cool too 😂

They probably think someone left the gas on or something seeing how at the opening a mother was so distracted into the game she burnt her food and ignore her son alone and how a Japanese lad rage quit and almost commit die so they probably think it was rage quitting or too distracted

We are slowly getting closer to this, Haptic Feedback vests exists (knowing some friends who got some), omni directional treadmill exists, and vr gloves exist (but not for consumer use atm) and of course the vr. Its pretty crazy how close we are to this movie if you do the research, coming from a 5 year vr user!
You know the driving backwards bit on the first race would of been discovered long ago by sheer accident by the clumsiest/worst GTA drivers.. ie Lindsay or Gavin from RoosterTeeth.
Not really, in a game where you lose everything you have, why would you risk it to go backwards at full speed directly to a wall?
The title "Ready Player One" is iconic. I never knew what it represented. It seems to reveal that it is being in the present- mindfulness- relationship- connection and connectedness with each other- that is the answer to the emptiness, depression and dissassociation from ourselves we may find ourselves suffering. This may sound obvious and redundant. But in fact it is becoming more and more difficult for some to find or make peace within. We must let go of pride and a holier than thou attitude towards those who are "different". And find value in family and respect for all. May we all be strengthened, enlightened, and learn where our own paths to service lie... for there lies joy and great sense of achievement and belonging.

As a fan of manhwa or comic that goes well with gaming. I'm impress and love this movie as hole. The twist and story fit well. Who else is a fan of gaming genre!!?? I hope sooner or later more isekai/resurrection/gaming genre can be made into a movie too.

The movie missed so much details from the books: The energy wars, the modern slaves at IOI, the bandits lurking in the roads between major cities, the ACTUAL challenges needed to find the keys which were actually somewhat difficult, the lavish lifestyle of the super-wealthy, and so much more.

I liked the way the movie is made and written , also liked how the main character decides to share his prize with his friends and to allow the oasis/ vr realm to be able to shut down in order for the users to enjoy real life also

When I saw this movie I was pretty disappointed, because the book offered a lot of character development and a lot of cool scenes, which the movie didn't show any of that. The book was something fantastical, and the definition of a gamer's wet dream.
Tbh the book is better but it's hard to have wade act out all of Monty python and the holy grail in the movie. It would've just been too complicated
