Enjoy the journey. It’s not a race but have your goals. Have your target of where you want to be in your life. Don’t just think working hard will get you there. Planning and logic can do a lot as well.
The first plant people drawing with the growing process is such a good composition. I love how the oldest version of the plant person has rich green leaves ripe with knowledge he's gained along the way. Fantastic video!
Dude you give the some of the best advice. Also you I thought you were a lot younger but just really smart and mature for your age! Congrats on being super healthy.
Thanks Bobby for sharing this knowledge with us ^^ I think I don't quite understand advise number 2 though 🤔 When I started taking drawing commissions, I spent way too much time than I should on it because, as you said, I wanted to maybe create something the client would not find somewhere else and also I would not be ashamed of puting it in my folio. But sometime ago, elder fellow artists told me it wasn't a good idea because it harmed the industry and lead clients to think they could pay less and have more. Which was also shooting myself in the foot for later... Maybe you can help me see the hidden path between those 2 ideas ^^ Thanks again for your wonderful work and the passion that always shines through. Hi from Paris !
JChris V the idea is if you only get low paying jobs, only do them if it’s a good subject matter for your portfolio and then don’t do it again. Use the job as much as it uses you and then only do it once
Perfect timing for a new plant people video since I was just marathoning all the others! Now I am extra motivated to finish my comic because future me wants it done, it will help my business, and it'll be great in my portfolio. And I hardly know anyone still in art school who is finishing comics so I will stand out.
Thank you so much for this video. On its own it could be The Perfect Bait 2.0 Really enjoyed the talk and the drawing. Actually you inspired me alot, I mean being an artist, having a successful career, living your purpose, making an impact, and inspiring others. Now I am 20 I can see myself in 10 years closer to what you are doing right now. Keep going Buddy !!
Thaaaanks to all gods Bobby is REAL! Thank you Bobby! You make incredible difference for me, i saw you on the Adobe Live (behance) and You made that day a better day for me, and you keep on inspiring and helping me, magically, again. and again! This video really speaks to me, and i will try my best to follow these advices!!
Lovely video as always Bobby! Number 4 is definitely one I need to start doing more. People are spooky! Even just on the internet. But I'm gonna keep trying to put myself out there and meet new people! I've noticed that opening myself up to new things and people also ends up putting new influences into my art as well! :)
the good ol question "where do you see yourself in 5 years?" - is the best thing you can live by, what do you want to be in 5 years? and start Now do you want to go to this college? start gathering your qualifications/file now, do you want to have kids? start making a baby-safe environment now, do you want to open a shop? start learning how to run a shop now, and so on
i have a question about having room on your day for learning, right now im spending most of my day doing this, but i end up with no time to do other stuff, i dont even know what i should be doing on my time not learning, if you can give some insight on this would help a lot, im learning online since i cant go to art school where i live, great video btw really inspiring
@@BobbyChiu haha 😄 I remember those volley ball poles and those portables. I jumped from school to school when I was younger, but I attended that school in 2006. Wanted to go to Unionville highschool, but didn't end up going there lol when did you attended school there?
I wish someone would pay my bills for a year or two so I could take a bunch of art classes and do art 14hrs a day until I can go pro. :) Doing what I can by drawing in all ky spare time; even sketching at red lights. Getting a very late start in life (I'm 48) in terms of trying to become a full-time artist but I have a fire in me..... going to try amd be a comic book artist for a solid season. That should help with other projects I want to do. Not exactly a fast track for me but you can never give up!
but what if you feel behind in life? I'm 25 and have no job no self discipline or structure, I tend to panic and just do nothing I feel like I would need the abillity to pause time for a hunderd years just to get on track -_- ( and then I even doubt if I would succeed )
You have to start somewhere. Not everyone was born with a pencil in their hands. Start with the basics and find a list of micro skills that you'll need for whatever career you want to go into. Focus on the skills that can make or break your artwork (colour & light, shadow, proportions). Set small goals for yourself. Maybe sit for just 30 minutes a day. Udemy has a lot of courses you could follow. I understand how you feel, I'm there myself but slowly making my way out
I was where you were just a few years ago Eli. Honestly might still be to some extent. But Megan is right. You just have to start, because you already know what happens if you don't - your situation will just get worse. Don't wait to be acted upon, instead act on what you want. The good things will follow. Mindset is a large factor here. My life has gotten monumentally better since that fateful day where I said to myself "I'm gonna start taking art seriously." And I meant it. Start with small steps, then take it from there. My first step wasn't even art related. It was to get exercise everyday, as I knew that would help in the long run. Anyway, I hope my rambling could help a bit. And remember, you have to try and fail in order to succeed. Keep your head up! :)
For me, I only do jobs that can be put in my portfolio. Except if the return is pretty high, either it is money or experience and connections. I don't know about your work opportunities, but I'd suggest that if a client requests that you don't use your work in your portfolio then ask them for a higher price. Good luck
Mariam Manga ʚĩɞ yeah that makes a lot of sense, i was not talking about my personal experience tho. I should of specify that it happens mostly for 3d modelers that the studios or studio clients ask for the work to not be shared on portfolios most of the time
Question: Bobby Chiu, is it okay if I drew a little plant person myself? I don't think it looks like any one of yours (he has grass on his head). I hope it is alright with you, that I might set it as a profile pic in the future. Have a nice day!!!!!!😎
This is such good information, I wish I could figure out how to bridge the gap in my career. Thank you for this! side note: I would so travel to meet you.

If the reward is not money, then make it experience worth ^^
Got it !

Hi, does anyone know what the small box at the top left corner is called? I'm thinking of trying that out while I draw on photoshop :) Thanks!
This is so good! Thanks! 😁
Glad you like it!
Speaking of Niko. Is Niko & The Sword of Light ever going to get a DvD/Blu Ray release ?
oh shit, was that coledale public school in that picture of you when you were younger?
Yes that’s my old public school. When did you go there?
