Dunno about funny, but the weirdest comment I’ve gotten was simply “when do the spankings begin?” On a multi chapter plotty angst fic. There were zero spankings to speak of.

I once wrote a crack oneshot and I got this comment “Rabbid Mario is obscenely out of character here. He wouldn't have tied Teto to a chair, he'd have fought him fair and square and killed him like a man!”
"[Character A] is proactive. They all seem like very good friends." It was said in response to 3 characters acting all lovey dovey in an early chapter to show that they were all part of a polycule. It's simple, but still makes me laugh.

One of my friends got a comment that was super long but essentially was asking to cite it in a college thesis essay worth 50% of their grade. They even quoted the most “moving” quotes of the fic in their comment, complete with MLA formatted intext citations.
I once wrote a secret santa gift for someone, and they pretty much dissected their thought process reading it in the comments. I have never felt more serotonin than I did in that moment, especially since it was my first time writing for that fandom. ... Also once someone screamed in my comments and that also sparked joy in me lol
i love writing "dissecting my thought process" type comments on animatics and fics and shit i hope someone will do the same for me when i post my own stuff
Something I commented on a bookmark I recently made: ‘This fic invokes a feeling of existential dread in me. 10/10, would read for the first time and be simultaneously fascinated and terrified again.’
As a commentator I think my most unhinged habit is that I am DELIBERATE with my keyboard smashing - well, it’s not smashing. I want the right letters in the right order to really convey my feelings. I’ve also become a rat before but idk.
Not a comment for a published fanfic, but actually a reaction to my short story in creative writing class. One of my classmates got to the part where a character murders her husband, and I think it surprised her. She said, "Ok, I didn't expect that" with the most concerned expression. And then proceeded to laugh when the next sentence referred to the murder as "what was necessary."
Oh man, creative writing classes have some of the best reactions. In mine, one guy's story had a bunch of background characters, one of whom was introduced as "Handy Andy, who's nickname says it all." The character was only mentioned in that sentence and had no dialogue or story significance. When we were giving the writer our feedback, every single one of us was like "Why's he called Handy Andy?!" After we gave our feedback, the writer was finally allowed to speak and clarify our questions, and he was like "You guys really care about Handy Andy, huh."
@@deen7530 I want a whole spinoff based on Handy Andy lol! I freaking love creative writing class and the people in it. I'm gonna be so sad when it ends.
One of the comments left on one of my incorrect quotes fics was “you leave the vampire king alone, he’s 52 and that’s pretty old for a vampire grandpa!”
Wrote a fanfic on tumblr once, before the character limits were changed, posted a new chapter and the next day my inbox was filled with probably 20 different people just *screaming* because of the plot twist. Several of them called me evil, comments on the actual post were filled with people crying, tags on the reblogs were a bunch of keyboard smashing. It was a good day. Less extreme, I wrote a friendship fic between a not so popular character and an OC in which my character vanished out of existence, explaining the canon character's completely unexplained motivation in the series proper. This fic was a one shot side story to the main fic and one of my readers from the main story just commented "What the fuck" and proceeded to add it to their book marks with the comment "Not funny. Cried." And reblogged a bit of promo art I drew on tumblr to tell their followers saying they were devastated. Just a few days ago I got this comment on a fic ">be me >finishe great chapter >search fo next chapter >there is no next chapter >CRIES OF SORROW" Which is the kind of thing you expect on an abandoned fic, right? Imagine my confusion, given that this last chapter had just been updated 12 hours before the comment was made. I comforted them with a reply and yes, because this fic is in fact a rarepair that had absolutely no chance of ever being canon especially after the show's conclusion, they had read the entire fic thinking that it was "Abandoned to the sands of time." Luckily for them, I still have plenty of story left. Unfortunately, the people who called me Evil before may be onto something 😈
I wrote a fluffy, but bittersweet fic to end a long-running series of mine. One of the comments I got was "I'm actually crying like there are tears flowing down my face. Please take them, take my tears. Use them in your morning tea."
One of my chapters ended on an incredibly angsty note, and I got a comment that read "NO. F*CK. B*TCH (HONORIFIC) WHAT THE HELL AHHHHHHH" and to this day that's the greatest thing I've ever seen
Not exactly fanfic, more like a HC, but my pal called a crack arsonist AU "so wholesome". It was unironic solely because it involved a pairing we both loved.
I’m a commenter, and I’ve been slowly growing more unhinged in my comments on each and every chapter of a dead dove kidnapping found family fic. Started with “haha I wish someone cared about me like that lol” but my brain rot has progressed to just “omg girlboss she does nothing wrong (maybe the murders were a little far)!! slay queen!! They’re siblings NOW your honor 😋💞💞🙂” The author rightfully ignores my nonsense but I KNOW they see me
I recall writing once a slowburn fanfic of a character turning into a werewolf and one of the comments I got was a question of "is he turning into a girl???"
“i feel like a little beetle reading this” - I have no idea what that means, but I feel like this is the highest compliment one can ever hope to receive. “HEHEHEHEHEH I love gay robots doing gay things with quiet social commentary about totally crazy gay sex in the background” - there was no sex. “Simply amazing. Mere sentences cannot describe the ecstacy I am experiencing as I read this literary masterpiece. If God is not in ULTRAKILL, then he is in your hand, churning put the best fanfiction in history. Absolutely breathtaking.” - on “The single best thing I have ever written”, a 14 word joke fic. All of the comments on that fic are amusing.
I once commented on what I think was a jokefic saying something like “wait this is actually good” The best part is the author responded to thank me Edit: There was also that one time where I commented on a fic to tell them about the inside joke me and my friends had about it and the author thought it was funny
Out of all of the funny comments I get on my fics, I got one that said something along the lines of "(Character Name) and I are platonically married now. TDI fanfic. I wrote in a fan character who had a SHIT ton of trauma, and despite being extremely honest and blunt (and perhaps a bit violent) wasn’t voted off. I make podfics, and one time someone referred to me as “you sound human” in a comment. When I asked for clarification, they said they were talking about the times I sounded like I was almost laughing, so. I’ll take the compliment, I guess? LMAO
I think the two that have made me laugh the most were both bookmark comments. The first was "got me feeling all sort of emotions wtf" and the second (on a different fic) was "ehehe"
iirc I once commented on a crackfic shipping Solas from Dragon Age: Inquisition and Benedict Cumberbatch. I don't think I even read the fic, I just saw that pairing tag while scrolling ao3 and went directly to comment: "Eggs Benedict."
Reminds me of one of the fanfics I read that whenever a character named Minceling came up, at least one person legally had to sneak ‘Minced :)’ into their comment.
I once got a comment on my TADC fic, (Local Author Runs Out of ADHD Meds, Draws Fanart Of Chess Peices For Three Days Straight - yes I regret the name) where the commenter apparently took a nap and had a dream about Kinger riding a giant wave of machochistic ladybugs and using god powers (???) to set up a romantic date with queenie. Also he was apparently a tyrant? To be fair, this was a comment on the chapter where he actually *DID* get attacked by killer ladybugs, but still top of my “whacky comments” list.
I like leaving comments that basically saying I wish I could give it more kudos but in weird ways, an few examples: "Kudos, the musical" "Kudos the book adaptation" "Kudos, the sequel"
Personally, one of the funniest _responses_ I've gotten from an author was along the lines of "I'm glad you're so engaged with the fic, but _please,_ go do something else." Made me laugh. For context, I was leaving a comment on almost every chapter with a specific character in it, because he turned into a major antagonist later and I'd felt like that had come out of nowhere. I then went on too nitpick other story details, which was when the author responded.
I've only ever gotten two comments on my fanfics. One was a compliment that wasn't accurate. (I think it was meant for another fic) The other was an invitation to join a "group project" with a link that led to a dead end.
That "dead end" thing reminds me of what I heard about bot. I got a comment and excited to only fall from grace as I noticed it was a bot; never opened the link.

one time I was reading a fic where the main character worked in a grocery store. I found a comment that was just a single shopping cart emoji, and I kid you not, there were more than 500 replies of people just spamming shopping cart emojis, as well as people yelling to stop replying.

In about 2013-ish I wrote a Jack Frost x Mavis Dracula oneshot. Got a review that simply said "YUCK." I can only assume that this was one of the many Jack/Elsa shippers running around that side of the internet at the time. But honestly the fact that it was just "YUCK" and nothing else has always amused me and it's still one of my favorite reviews I've ever gotten. There was another Frozen crossover oneshot that I posted years ago, and for some reason I keep getting these guest reviews...ranting about how Anna and Elsa shouldn't be sisters and instead should be strangers ??? I'm 99% sure these are all the same person, because every comment is the same brand of bizarre. And the thing is, this person keeps coming back every few years to leave the exact same kinds of comments on the exact same fic. It's not even a popular fanfic or anything. I can't even begin to understand the thought process.
The best comment I’ve ever gotten is someone saying they felt existential dread after reading my vampire AU fic. My response was “Good. Weep.” (This is a reference to a MineCraft video I love). I didn’t receive these, but I remember two people going at each other’s throats because of a joke the first commenter made. That got a laugh outta me. On a Deltarune smut fic where, in the description, I apologized if I’d made any mistakes on Kris’ pronouns throughout it since it was my first time writing a canonically nonbinary character, the only two comments were from a guy trying to reassure me no one cared about Kris’ pronouns, and somebody thanking me for putting in the effort to get it right. Neither comment is super funny on their own, but just seeing them right next to each other is entertaining, especially with their profile pics, like little cartoon devils and angels on that story’s shoulders.
Mine was a two part wattpad comment on a family dynamic focused fic telling one of the characters ( in immense detail )why people learn to lie to loved ones and how it’s unhealthy and I’m pretty sure the second comment was just because they hit a word limit I didn’t know existed. One of my friends got a comment that was super long but essentially was asking to cite it in a college thesis essay worth 50% of their grade. They even quoted the most “moving” quotes of the fic in their comment, complete with MLA formatted intext citations.
As an academic myself I would be honored if someone wanted to cite my fic lol

I once wrote a secret santa gift for someone, and they pretty much dissected their thought process reading it in the comments. I have never felt more serotonin than I did in that moment, especially since it was my first time writing for that fandom.
... Also once someone screamed in my comments and that also sparked joy in me lol
i love writing "dissecting my thought process" type comments on animatics and fics and shit i hope someone will do the same for me when i post my own stuff
Something I commented on a bookmark I recently made:
‘This fic invokes a feeling of existential dread in me.
When we were giving the writer our feedback, every single one of us was like "Why's he called Handy Andy?!"
After we gave our feedback, the writer was finally allowed to speak and clarify our questions, and he was like "You guys really care about Handy Andy, huh."
@@deen7530 I want a whole spinoff based on Handy Andy lol! I freaking love creative writing class and the people in it. I'm gonna be so sad when it ends.
@@deen7530 Handy Andy sounds like Ice Pick Joe
Just a few days ago I got this comment on a fic
">be me
>finishe great chapter
>search fo next chapter
>there is no next chapter
>CRIES OF SORROW"
Which is the kind of thing you expect on an abandoned fic, right?
"Yes. That. Good job with the words."
They’re siblings NOW your honor 😋💞💞🙂”
The author rightfully ignores my nonsense but I KNOW they see me

I wrote in a fan character who had a SHIT ton of trauma, and despite being extremely honest and blunt (and perhaps a bit violent) wasn’t voted off.
Just when it looked like he was about to win, he got voted off (and later learned that he was sabotaged).

Same bro, this is weirdly motivational to actually finish and post stuff so I can get comments like this, I need it.
Yeah, I have one that’s a little outdated but I should REALLY post. This has given me a little perspective on how accepting people can actually be.
my all time favorite comment was "ohhh yeah I forgot they were in a pancreas- wait, a panoramic, hol up I mean a pandemic"
this video was boss frogs to the max with an extra booyah on the side!
iirc I once commented on a crackfic shipping Solas from Dragon Age: Inquisition and Benedict Cumberbatch. I don't think I even read the fic, I just saw that pairing tag while scrolling ao3 and went directly to comment:
"Eggs Benedict."
“I laughed so hard that a gummy worm came out of my nose-“
Only reading it back later did I realize how concerning it is. Did Mabel write this?
(I think it was meant for another fic)
The other was an invitation to join a "group project" with a link that led to a dead end.
That "dead end" thing reminds me of what I heard about bot. I got a comment and excited to only fall from grace as I noticed it was a bot; never opened the link.
@@Lights_of_Silver I think the link (if I remember correctly) was to someone's social media account. But the account was deleted.
