I once made my dad take me of the tube to a Tibetan restaurant an hour away to try thukpa, an important element for like, one chapter of my fic. It was really good though, and we ended up making it on our own. If you ever want to have a really nice cultural experience, Thukpa is SO GOOD

I’m a sex repulsed asexual and one time needed to write a make out scene between two characters and I had no idea how to do that cause I didn’t know how it worked. Ended up frantically messaging my best friend and pleading for them to write said scene because I actively couldn’t figure it out. They agreed and it turned out wonderfully. (I had requested a wholesome make out scene, and they delivered it perfectly. I was even able to read it which is saying a lot cause that stuff normally grosses me out.)

@@cutiefox19 I can write kiss scenes, but anything past a regular kiss is uncomfortable for me and I know nothing about it. Luckily he’s always willing to explain things to me that I don’t get which is very helpful.
@@WildMushroom-g155 I don't rant about it to anyone other than my closest ones because it feels awkward otherwise, and even the *slightest* mention of it makes me feel disturbed, so my friends try to shield me from it or reassure me because I'm "pure" 😭
I like to look back at all my notes just to get a feel of where I was mentally while writing. Turns out I was yelling about popcorn in chapter 5
And I was laughing about soup in chapter four! And chapter fourteen! 😂😂😂
God damn it, guys. We must stop spilling things in the notes. These readers are starting to realize we might not be as mentally stable as they thought.
as a reader, i am more concerned when someone never mentions any type of struggle in the notes. happy people don‘t log onto ao3 and drop 10k of hurt/comfort on monday night

I love writing cute fluffy romance stuff. I’ve considered writing smut before despite being largely s*x repulsed and it’s a weird experience, I feel like I’d need a non-ace betta reader so that I don’t end up like the example in the video because idk what allo’s like and whenever I read smut stuff I skip like 90% of the graphic stuff to just see the character interactions (literally reading it for the plot).

I was reading an in-progress fic that updated a little slowly, like one chapter every two or three months. About fifteen chapters in, the author's note said "Well guys, I dropped out of college, which means I have more time to finish this fic!" Less than a month later, the fic was finished with a little under forty chapters.
"Well, we can add "step-by-step guide to giving good head" to the list of weird things I've googled for research. If my FBI agent hasn't figured out I'm a writer yet, they must be so confused." - a personal favorite from my own fics

@@chanshengsupremacy8889 As a Miraculous fan, yea. The best writing in Miraculous comes from the fans. I love the miraculous themselves (even though they have their own flaws) but the writing of the show can almost make the amazing ideas feel a little waisted, although I still enjoy the show itself despite the bad writing. I’ve been working on a fanfic that literally just takes the miraculous’ without using any of the characters from the show aside from the kwami’s and instead uses characters from another series, I love just taking the cool superpower stuff from miraculous and just doing a completely different story with them.
@aceofspades8474 I once heard _Miraculous_ described as a show that was made for fanfiction, because the first four seasons were all set-up, with really cool ideas, and no payoff.

For one of my author notes i wrote during the summer I wrote how I was going through a break up during a 94 wildfire heatwave, weeks of rain, a tornado, and risk of flooding and I realized I had become and AO3 fanfic author for real.

Even in fanfics Spider-man will suffer. Truly he is the authors plaything.
That one was both a Spidey fic and a Deadpool fic. But they were speaking about one character. That makes me wonder if this is the case, or if they're making Wade suffer, which has equal precedent tbh.
I'm definitely going to read that one Good Omens fic that has Freddie Mercury's ghost in it now.

I say "sorry" in the author's note a lot in my fan-fic, but... sorry, I'm not sorry. I also tend to overexaggerate what happens to me so I can procrastinate. DANG, IT! I was supposed to write a chapter today, and here I am... procrastinating. (Quick note 2: I also tend to write what's in my mind. Example: pineapple on pizza isn't that bad.)

I had a mental breakdown last night because I realized I (literally only) write hurt/comfort fluffy Gen close-besties-that-are-basically-siblings relationships because all the friends I have irl are SUPER shallow and would never love me unconditionally or would ever get close enough to me so I can dump my love on them unconditionally.
I couldn't recover properly from this, because I vent my emotions onto characters. And it wouldn't be a proper vent onto a character thinking "I'm sad and I have no friends" without having the comfort at the end, but then that would prove that they have friends.
Needless to say my 11:30pm brain decided to be sad that she had no friends and realized very quickly that she couldn't just project her feelings onto fictional characters, because those fictional characters have friends to comfort them.

*Stares at all my unfinished fics for 10 minutes*
*Makes new doc*
*Types three words*
*Realizes I forgot how to write an opening*
*Blinks and breathes, blinks and breathes*
*Opens my favorite fic to see how they wrote their opening*

*Looks at clock and realizes it’s 11 PM*

*Decides the three words I wrote aren’t delicate enough*

after i wrote my first fanfic, i went on vacation and full on passed out because i was stung by a jellyfish, two metres away from the sea. i could've drowned, but my dying brain went oouh lets swim to the rocks even though my vision is completely blacking out. and i will forever thank myself for that. because now i've gone on to write several more fanfics and my life is in shambles

I have written some completely unhinged author's notes at random periods of time spanning back a decade in some super common fandoms, so I'm literally just waiting for the day where I'm watching one of these videos and I can point and say, "Hey, I wrote that!"

Usually I never see any fanfics I have read in these sort of videos. When I started watching this one, I was like, "I wonder if I'll encounter anything I've read. Nah, probably not."

I got slapped in the face by one of my favorite fics between 5-6 mins and i audibly gasped. someone asked if i was okay and I just said "no" without thinking because I was in shock 😭
My darkest author's note: "In which I traumatize a five-year-old." (On a rewrite of Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame sequel, involving the much-maligned offspring of Esmeralda and Phoebus.)
My mom, who has an MD, was sitting next to me, and she chuckled upon hearing the first one. She doesn’t write fanfiction, but she reads mine and I mainly write oneshots. (For those curious, most of them are gen fics nowadays, and I’ve never written smut, but I _did_ let her read my cringy Wattpad ship fics back in the day.)
As a ex-fanfic writer, I was aware I had issues.

Which was very true.
The fanfic in question was a murder mystery and the murderer was so fucking obvious. I am still confused how one of the people who(for some reason) always read the updates didn't realize.
LIKE I LITERALLY ONLY WRITE THEIR INTERVIEW, HAD THE MAIN CHARACTER POINT HIM OUT AS "LOOKING WORRIED", HAD A SIDE CHARACTER SAY SOMETHING THAT LINED UP WITH THE MURDER'S VIEW CHAPTER AND HAD THE MAIN CHARACTER POINT OUT WHY HE HATED THE MURDER VICTIM MORE THAN THE OTHER SUSPECTS COMBINED
Perhaps the reader was like 'there ain't no WAY it's that's obvious. There's gotta be something I'm missing' ????

Your fanfic was clearly being read by my tablemates at a murder mystery dinner I went to. I figured out who the murderer was, but they outvoted me because my clearly correct reasoning was, and I quote, “too obvious.”

I relate to 3:08 so much. I started writing for a series my friend got me into, and 90% of the fics I have for it are just my favorite character suffering.
My A/N’s typically involve me explaining or warning people about stuff. I also once put the wrong tags for a fic, and no one seemed to notice. I only caught it because it appeared when I was searching a tag.
Like all other authors in this comment section I can confirm we aren't okay.

The line about favourite characters suffering the most hits a little too close to home - my favourite character in my current story has been through hell before the story starts, and then it somehow gets worse for him…
I gave my favourite character schizophrenia. And a dead dad. Pretty much just because I wanted to.

In my defense, my autism and A.D.H.D is where the goofy fun shenanigans and witty banter come from! Rule of thumb: If you can't stand to read it, assume others can't either! And troll-pasta/"crack" is NOT an excuse to slack off!

It's trippy seeing some of these and knowing exactly what fic they're from because you just binge read a shit ton of MDZS fics. Seeing the Sabikui Bisco one was a spiritual experience though, it's a comparatively niche fandom and one of my favorites.

Congrats *dead character* , you get 12 extra years. Also *love interest* is in his 20s so rip bozo I guess. Canon is dead and I beat her to death with a led pipe.
Let me summarize for you this warriors fanfiction of crap me and my friends wrote
There was a group of cats called the Firestar Haters Club. They hated Firestar and wanted to kill him. So they train in the dark forest, a cat called Bumblekit who is just bumblebee from WOF as a cat develops a crush on Mapleshade’s kit, Petalkit, then finds out he’s half Starclan and Petal just screams PLOT TWIST.
So then Sandstorm starts crushing on Tigerstar (the first one) and they go on a romantic boat ride. Dark stripe (or dark tail I forgot) gets eaten by a giant bird. Sand confesses her Arachnophobia literally five seconds before Spottedleaf (with a Scottish accent) kicks Tiger off the boat to his death.
Nightheart destroys teh earth in a pool of lava.
After I wrote that everyone just slowly died and disappeared off the fic. Sometimes I open the google doc and think. What if we just wrote one more sentence. Then I ridicule myself because it’s already confusing enough. I swear this was supposed to be a normal fic, something went wrong but I’m happy.
this sounds like a crackfic that i would read at 2 am while sleepily browsing ao3, adore, then never find again even though the quotes still sometimes appear in my head

Not my note but once saw a note on a fanfic that basically went "If you're my favorite character, you're just gonna suffer more, I'm sorry" and I have never related to an author's note more.
Story from the perspective of a brick is way too creative
I'm sex repulsed and just don't write explicit sex scenes and I prefer platonic relationships anyway. Although I've dipped my toes into describing make-out sessions with a little help from my bestie. Uh, a lot of help from my bestie. I also have to push a little for this one story I'm working on. :0 Anyway. I'm sure I can dig up some of my own least OK moments...
"Gosh, I realize that I have thus far spent almost half of my 20s writing this trilogy. Don't know when I'll take a break again but I probably will at some point. There's still so much good stuff to come and I want to get it out there already, but if ya need a break, ya need a break."
"I'm warning y'all now... I don't have an outline for this, nor do I plan to make one. This one wants to be pantsed." (this fic is ironically one of my most intricate works, somehow...?)
And I'll end with a third. Easily one of my most unhinged moments.

I once made a rant about how much I hated angst and how hard it was to write an emotion based chapter. Then basically said all my heavy angst writers have my respect.
I am not kidding.
In my fic, all you have to do is read the tags and see my update schedule to know I have not been mentally ok for about 2 years lol

i recently went on a hiatus for about a month on a specific multichap bc i was graduating high school a year and a half early. i still feel absolutely terrible for leaving for so long lmao. have i updated the fic since? no :(
Bro, the average fanfic reader is usually pretty used to a long hiatus, and personally I wouldn't even call a month long at all. Some of us are used to waiting years between updates, but if the fic is good enough it's worth the wait.
A month is not a long hiatus, trust me
A month is my normal length between chapters, trust me people won't care. Fics go on hiatus for years at a time sometimes

i usually don't take month long breaks. with the first fic in the series, my longest break was four days. my readers were used to quick updates. and now i keep leaving for weeks
My favourite A/N I ever read was “my sister told me she was impressed at my levels of autism for being able to consistently write Sherlock fanfiction for 7 years and I take that as a compliment”
