    So besides the calm voice you have while explaining, this is so helpful. With regards to pulling, my dog doesn’t pull on his normal walks, however he gets distracted by other dogs barking at him and I have to slightly correct him, he also gets nuts when seeing bunnies (pulled me in a bush when he’s seen one), so I’m freaked out to take him in on a bike ride because he might get distracted, how do u handle that? Thx to anyone with any tips ( my dog is a large breed and is not friendly with other dogs)

    • @mcsdog
      @mcsdog  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Usually the bike cuts down on reactive behavior, because the dog has to pay attention to it. Be careful, it might be a good idea to use a bike aid to tie him to, rather then holding the leash, so you don't get yanked off the bike.

    I bought x back harnesses and am wanting to teach my huskies to bike along for good exercise. They know heel but huskies are the most stubborn breed 🤦🏼‍♀️ and natural pullers species they are loose leash until they see another dog in their line of walking. I’m terrified they will start dragging me w my bike if some dog starts barking in front of us.

    • @mcsdog
      @mcsdog  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Harnesses are made for pulling - that is of course what your dogs are bred to do with sleds. You can switch to a neck collar and get a hands free set up for the bike. You also said "they" - we would not recommend more than one dog at a time
      Your safety is very important

      @@mcsdog thank you. I am getting started in bikejoring ( dry land mushing ) and bought their x back harnesses. Training one at a time and then taking both together to pull. Seems much more fitting for their needs.

    I have a 4mth old puppy, german shepherd mix breed. At what age should I start this training? He still pulls on the leash

    • @mcsdog
      @mcsdog  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      First he needs to lean to walk on the leash without pulling, also at 4m, his body isn't ready for demanding exercise like biking or hiking. I would wait until he is at least 8m to a year before you start the biking. But you can do basic obedience with him now.

      DragonSkaterrr I don’t have a chihuahua, but the breed I mentioned is also a toy breed. I only do it at a school parking lot, so I don’t go on heavy bike rides with him. It works, but I am very gentle because he’s a small dog.

    • @madervideosproductions.2525
      @madervideosproductions.2525 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      DragonSkaterrr if you do it with your dog, make sure you have a harness attach and not a collar. Also practice doing it somewhere safe like a closed parking lot. Ride very slowly and build the dog’s stamina. Have the leash on both the dog’s left and right side. If the dog is slowing down and panting, than it’s time to stop.

    When do I reward treats. Do I reward him at all with treats?

    • @mcsdog
      @mcsdog  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can always treat train, but it's not necessary. Also depends on your dog and what type of reward works best. We find verbal praise works with most dogs, and of course, is always available, even when you ride a bike :)

    super dangerous to do it this way. if the dog lunges which they can you will go down. the Bike Tow Leash allows for lunging and will not pull you off the bike

    • @mcsdog
      @mcsdog  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thank you, this leash offers a bungee type section that allows the bike to remain steady even when the dog pulls. However, as we talk about in the video, it;s important that the dog knows to walk on a loose leash and does not pull before you bike with your pet
