Yes, any department student can work in IT, but When you app;y for VISA to work in other countries, getting visa for CSE is better than MECH / Civil. If you look USA, Canada, Australia, UK, etc....for software job they need degree in software as the top option. Suppose if you have mechanical degree and experience in software, you need to show more proof and extra doc to the immigration officer to get visa
