Very good Information. I am an IT professional working in a reputed IT organisation for the past 21 years. My son came out of 12th this year and I asked his choice. He opted for Mechanical Engineering. I was surprised to note as I am also not opted for IT or CSE. My bad luck his cut off is reduced and expecting only 4th round of counciling. As you mentioned I went to one of the reputed colleges in Chennai and they offered me B.Tech Mechanical without any donation and I blocked the seat. Now for my son Mechanical seat is confirmed. What I observed is this branch has no ups and downs instead has a standard growth. We need to know some basic IT knowledge but can survive with Mechanical. Non IT engineering graduates have option to go either to IT or Core jobs, but CSE or IT engineering graduates have no option but to go only for IT related jobs, which has lot of ups and downs. For now, IT requirement is only for those who opted for CSE/IT 4 years back as it is in Boom now. For sure, there will be recession within 2 years and again we will witness bluk throw out by IT organisations. Now-a-days, IT sector pay is almost in par with Non IT sector jobs and no IT fresher is earning lakhs in first year. So, better to choose Non IT branch this year to have bright future. Thanks

I do not understand why Students demand only CSE course.. any Engineering degree holder can join IT, Software companies in India or in Foreign countries... REC is in 12th position in top 35 colleges in Tamilnadu. Yes, they will collect donation, but coaching and extra curricular activities are more. Placement trainings are available. If you CGPA is more than 9, they your placement in core sector is confirmed, else, they will try to push in IT sector. My elder son studied in REC in Mechanical Engineering and got placed in Rane TRW as trainer thru campus. After a year of training, he got a very good offer in Flex limited as off campus and for the past 1 year he is working in supply chain management. There are lot of learning opportunities in this organisation.

Really you mean what you said? Then what about student’s passion for a course? I believe in student’s passion. My kid got admission in NIT Trichy Chemical Engineering 3rd choice after CS and IT. She did not join. Instead she joined CEG IT. She is very happy and excelled in her degree.

People like you is the need of the hour for Students. 11 Government Engineering Colleges and out of that only 4 are good 16 University Colleges of Engineering and Regional Campus and out of that nothing is good There are 440 Self Financing Colleges and out of that 40 are good If it is good, I say good.
