This is a video of the Normandy Landings during D-Day, June 6, 1944 simulated in Call of Duty: WW2. It shows the American Army taking over the beach and the surroundings.
Call of Duty: WWII is a first-person shooter video game developed by Sledgehammer Games and published by Activision for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It is the fourteenth primary installment in the Call of Duty series. The game is set in European theatre of the war. The campaign is centered around a squad in the 1st Infantry Division, and follows their battles in the Western Front, while the multiplayer expands on different fronts not seen in the campaign. The game was released worldwide on November 3, 2017.

I was removing trees at an old cemetery when one of the veteran head stones caught my eye. His birthday was June 6th 1924 his day of death was June 6th 1944 man, had his 20th birthday storming the beaches on D-day when he was killed in action... took me 6 tries just to get off the beach head in a damn video game, so I can only image real life.
I can’t imagine being at war on my 20th birthday because I wouldn’t survive a minute of it. But still no one messes with me

And if you were standing in the front of the boat u got shot first, not even getting the change to step foot on the ground

The first waves were trained for 2 years, the earliest someone could have got out of basic and been sent to the beach was 6 months, and they would have been second or third wave. But it would still suck.

My grandfather's dad was 26 and was a part of Indo-pakistan war. He and his two friends were fighting in jungle and no where to hide there except for some boulder . They were ready to die for India and knew for sure that it was their last day. But only two of them returned and painfully saw their third friend dying as he was shot in belly and in chest that ruptured his lower right lung lobe.
My grandfather is always so happy and proud whe he talks about his father.

Yes I wouldn't want to play a virtual reality of world war 2. I can clearly tell by today's video games and movies ( like Hacksaw Ridge , 2016 ) how horrible the war was. I'm fine with playing the games on a console, or an a PC. I don't want a virtual reality of world war 2.
However, I think I might enjoy a virtual reality version of Black Ops or Modern Warfare.
They had WW2 Veterans watch this gameplay and watch Saving Private Ryan and they asked them how real was the movie and game and they all said “pretty fucking close.” And one was absolutely shocked saying he recalled exact similar events when he was deployed in the 2nd wave. Great job Sledgehammer!!
I have actually watched our veterans suffer flashbacks from D-Day in my anniversary reception last month and all I could do was cry my heart out; I got to comfort many of them and I think that will be the last time doing this
D-Day was so impossible. Just the chances of not immediately dying as soon as you landed was like trying to avoid getting shot while running through rain. Except in the soldier’s case every drop of rain was a hot bullet that could have your very name on it. RIP to all those who died, and I speak for all WW2 veterans, thank you for your service and sacrifice to this nation and this very world. “Don’t worry mama, I’ll be okay.” -Last words of and Iwo Jima bound soldier
I have met many D-Day veterans and I cried for what they experienced. I wasn’t expecting it few hugs from them though

It’s always the innocent civilians that are the victims of war.
There’s a lot to compare when looking at WW2 and World at War. WW2 was not NEARLY as dark as WaW was, but it made up for it by having a full cast of well developed characters. The brutality of war was definitely even between the two; blown off limbs, blood spurts upon damaging enemies, etc. Stories for both were also very good in their own right.
Both are miles better than Vanguard 😂

Not only American,there were Canadian,British, french,polish and many more countries soldiers Vs Nazi Germany
It wasn't just Omaha.
They also invaded other beaches like Utah, Juno and a couple others.
My grandad still to this day visits a therapist twice a week due to what he witnessed storming Normandy beach at just 17 years old.
The way he tells it is that, his vessel had 21 men in it (not including driver) and 13 were killed in the first 30 seconds. He barely survived by jumping off the side of the vessel, and almost drowning due to his equipment weighing almost his own body weight. He stormed Omaha beach, with the 4th infantry battalion. They went on to take out 2 bunkers, and then raided a nearby town which took them almost a month to take over. He got shot in his left leg twice by a German sniper, and miraculously was able to keep on fighting. The experience is horrifying since 4 out of his 5 brothers died, during d-day.
I don’t blame him; I get a bit iffy on the anniversary too and I hope Woody.EXE’s tribute makes up my grief during the first few hours. I dread the anniversary now
We did the tribute at 6:30am the exact time of D-Day starting and I cried in college a few times. It was a great anniversary though
My grandfather didn't go to Normandy Beach thank God but he did however go to the battle of the bulge. And survived.

The battle of Omaha Beach was horrendous death and carnage. The other four beaches that were assaulted went according to plan with much fewer casualties. Allied forces underestimated the Germans defending Omaha and also made many critical errors before the first wave of Troops hit the beach. It was like a perfect storm which led to one of the most fierce battles on the Western front. The rest of the day was not like this at all.

kinda accurate, lots of veterans said the boat ride to d-day was very silent. Everyone was praying, thinking, etc. When they were getting to the beach, boats were getting gunned down and bombed, making many soldiers sea sick (due to the high moral d-day breakfast the navy provided them). In which made many people vomit in the boat, soldiers had to scoop out water and throw up with their helmets and eventually jumped over the boat in hopes of making it to the beach safely. Most drowned because of the amount of weight their supplies put on them, and because they were too weak from sea - sickness. Rest in peace to the veterans

It took hours for them to reach the sea wall due to the fact that there was literally no cover on the Normand beaches, just only obstacles, and that the soldiers were facing the fastest machine gun of their time (It shot 25 bullets per second, 1500 per minute). In which made many soldiers way to scared to proceed in the invasion. Many of the Allies support was failing (air bombs, paratroopers, etc) eventually it came down to bravery and the navy artillery ships. Allies were very very close to suffering a huge loss on d-day.

Pretty acurate, it took almost 3 hours for them to reach the sea wall. Under that time the germans where running out of ammunition and their gunfire slowed down making it easier for the americans at omaha beach to move forwards.

Probably one of the most underrated Cod games ever. My only problem with the game is the lack of automatic healing. It's not because AI suck at the game because it's because it can annoy me sometimes.
My criticism is the lack of atmosphere, the intensity and bruteness as same as WAW or COD 2

My grandpa served as a medic aide, 2nd wave on Omaha beach. Dad said he never talked about the war, before d day he served in Sicily and later the battle of the bulge. Dad said he never talked about the war, says he just happened to be there at Omaha and once when my dad was a kid some guy come running up screaming and hugging my grandpa. Guy looks at my dad and says your dad here is a hero.....saved my life in Normandy.

The one good thing about cod WW2 is that they brought back the health packs so you can replenish you’re health just like in the old call of duty games from the early 2000’s.

I had the opportunity to go to that beach back in November 2021. It was a sombre experience walking down that beach without any obstacles and imaging all the valiant men that stormed it. It was additionally sombre to visit the American cemetery there. I am grateful for what they stood up to.

One of my uncles used told me stories about war back when me and my cousin's where younger and played this kind of games...
He said it was one of the worst experiences he ever lived, and nobody will ever witness things he did, ever again.
He said he killed more than 30 people in war, and some of those kills where horrific to the point he still remembers the screams of pain from some of those guys...
He once said "as time goes by, the moment you pull the trigger, you just wish the guy you shot was killed instantly.. Not because you are afraid of him coming back to you, but because hearing someone screaming in pain and agony still gives me chills to this day..."
I could see the sadness in his face while he was going thru his memories of those hard times.
All of this to say that I can now understand better the situation he described, just because at 9:42 I imagined the exact same thing... And fuck, that's heavy!

Fun fact ,The invasion of Normandy wasn’t the only invasion on that day,but also Americans and the free French armies fought the the south of France,awhile in the pacific the Americans were for the first time landing in Japanese soil on Saipan,Either way happy liberation day lads.

I watched saving private Ryan. It is intense. A lot of things in Call of Duty are inspired by it.

I love it too but I did almost throw up a lot because it’s so bloody. I suddenly turned white as a sheet, my hand movement was very restricted to pins and needles being incredibly intense and I finally passed out after about 3 minutes of the Normandy scene. I came around again after that

imagine being drafted into the military to form friendships and relationships, your first deployment is a place called “normandy,” youre sailing to the beach expecting a nice drop off and wall to the top of the beach, you get to the beach, open the doors, and youre dead 3 seconds into the operation.

I played this with headphones in on Veteran, holy shit that was an experience
I couldn’t do it because I felt to emotional and I’m upset about giving up because I know Daniels wouldn’t give up on me no matter what. I’m ligit shaking from it
These games are getting so realistic that it is almost too much. As they were rolling up to the beach, you know what is going to happen to them as soon as those boat doors open. Almost brought a tear to my eye thinking of the real soldiers who had to embark on this madness. Game like this just make me sad.

Well honestly in veteran difficulty you do die in 2_3 shots so that's close to realism
I love how even some of the dialogue, is exactly the same from "Metal of honor frontlines" I remember that game so well in the opening level.

I had to play this mission on recruit because I kept dying on the beach. What I didn’t realize was that you had a health bar that doesn’t regenerate. I’ve been non-WW2 CoDs for too long.
Total respect to the American, British and Canadian soldiers who went through this nightmare. It's as scary as f**k just watching this video game, cannot even begin to imagine the bravery it took to go through it for real.
Senna458 If I were born during this time and had to live through WW2 then I'd die of anxiety. Constantly getting bombed, tanks rolling over houses and soldiers shooting, avoiding getting sent to death camps, avoiding rape, not knowing who to trust. Basically just trying to survive. These people really were the greatest generation.

It's pretty simple just like during the revolutionary, civil and WW1 first attack waves. They get slaughtered, didn't stand a chances, destined to die the min that yheir leader yelled charge. The 5th and 6th waves had to run through a cemetery that had all dorts of blood, guts, screaming, crying an moaning to help or make it stop. The PTSD after the wars were over must have been just as scary for kids and civilians to live in. How fo you go to sleep in a warm comfy bed after being in war for 2-5 years?
