@Austin Statin It's fake, just like any other religion. Mediums, fortune tellers, etc. Things like guessing details about somebody's life actually comes down to experience in manipulation and talking tricks, which there are even courses for. I wish there was another 1 million dollar prize to prove the supernatural thing again, since the last one was cancelled after several decades of people being unable to prove magic woo under scientific scrutiny. I'd love to see them take on Voodoo. I think it's a cool cultural concept either way. The whole aesthetic is badass.
Anyone else think that the Voodoo Queen that Facilier descended from is Madame Leota? Think about it: They both are powerful Voodoo weilders, summon spirits with the help of elaborate songs and chants, and, Both lived in New Orleans.
Dr. Facilier is such a great and underrated villain! He needs his own movie and/or book about him. He doesn't even appear in How It Should Have Ended. He appeared in Vera Strange's AU: "Fiends on the other side" book and will be in the Twisted Tale series "Almost There" by Liz Braswell, Jen Calonita and Elizabeth Lim. Other than The Descendants and the Princess and the Frog, we don't know a whole lot about him. I bet he was once an innocent boy who wanted to live the good life. Maybe he practiced good Voodoo with Mama Odie. But he soon became envious of the wealthy and got into dark magic. What of his parents and Mama Odie's influence? I also think that his backstory wouldn't be too different from Alastor of Hazbin Hotel. If no one else makes a backstory for him, then I will.
I want to give you props for how you gave details on Vodou. Dr F is a super fun character but a horrid representation of Vodou and I think the fact you refer to him as a Bokor really highlights that. Mama O is super interesting because of the style of her song, southern gospel. Hoodoo primarily came about in the south as a mix between folk magic and Protestant Christianity and I think Mama O really captures that.
That's really cool. Yes, I do think he was descended from a voodoo queen because voodoo seems to be the kind of thing that you have to be in the know to know, (you know?) and I'm not sure where else he'd go, because people outside the know tend to know squat about it.
Naga Blackwing Yes, in the Descendants Wicked World serie he has a daughter, as most of the Disney villians. Give a look to the Descendants movies and the series, it will only took around an hour to se the entire serie as the chapters are like 3 minutes long (see them all at once and it'll feel like 3 chapters of a regular serie)
Dany Elric Yes, Dr. Facilier might have a daughter in the Descendants Wicked World Series, but that's Disney. Dreamworks created the Princess and the Frog, and I donut think they've planned for Dr. Facilier to have a daughter. If they did, they would have put a hint in there.
I was gonna correct him too, but I'm glad my fellow Louisianians have done that already. I cringed a bit when he said that, and how he pronounced Marie Laveau's name and my hometown of New Orleans
Funny, in common french language "un gris-gris" these days indicates a small object seemingly without value financially but with an important religious value and to which you attribute supernatural power.
I think voodoo was a great magic to be used in the princess and the frog. The movie deviated from the original story but it showed African American and creole culture beautifully.
This was amazing!!! You even went into depth about what voodoo and hoodoo actually is and included it's history. Thank you for do justice to the princess and the fog, I've always felt like that movie didn't get enough of the love that it deserved but you really went above and beyond with this!
Wouldn't it be ironic if Mama Odie was Dr. Facilier's mother. Just a suggestion. Update: Dang just saw where you had mentioned that she was gonna be his mom, but Disney writers scrapped that idea.

@@MRS.TRIPLE-A321 it also proves a lil that he wasn't super underhanded much like Ursula from lil mermaid. they both say the pro/cons of the deal and get you to agree to it. while providing fore shadowing.
I notice that on the cards, on the hands designs, there are eyes. Those eyes are actually called the Eye of Horus, one of many egyptian gods, who was the son of the king of the underworld while he was alive. Horus is a symbol for power, so it is a cool easter egg.
snow whites father was king her mother was queen, her mother died of illness during snow's childhood or after childbirth i believe and i think her father also died of illness originally? i could be wrong.
Emily L. You're right, they should do a movie on Snow White & Rose Red. Imagine this, they could be the twin daughters or granddaughters of the other Snow White.
Rebekah, in the original tale the last we hear of Snow White's dad was when he marries the evil stepmum. It could have been anything. My money's on that he got done in or got locked up as a madman.
His ancestor could be a Voodoo Queen. When it was my first time watching Princess and the frog, I didn't now the Shadowman's real name was Dr. Facilier until now because I only hear Shadowman instead of Dr. Facilier.
They actually did a cool job of incorporating aesthetics that are actually meaningful in vodou, like veves (the symbol drawings on the floors + walls), into his sequences. They had some of Ezili Freda in the background of his shop, tons swirling around him in the magic scenes, and he himself even resembles how Ghede is portrayed by some artists! I loved seeing the amount of research into this vid, a lot of it was really accurate (even if the pronunciation was iffy lol). Glad to see a theory on Facilier, he's my favorite villain by far!!
Princess and the frog is a truly underrated movie. A princess that is hard working whose dream is to open a restaurant her father could not, a prince that’s just wealthy and spoiled that learns the value of effort and having a goal, and an awesome villain with great songs. And the best of course is the firefly Ray, best parts of the movie are all him.
Unlike other Disney Villains he has a realistic reason for his plan just like Frollo in this regard. Dr. Facillier was originlly suposed to be Mama Odie's son and toward the end of the movie he was supposed to fight her during Mardi Gras.
I also took it as a light "heritage" joke, since Creoles are mixed with many things, including French and African. The beheaded woman he holds up made me go, "Hah, a French Revolution joke, nice."
This man became a super quick fave of mine just recently. I swear, I'd invite him to any party with those dance moves and smooth voice! Honestly, while Mama Odie being his mother was scrapped, I can truly see her as his grandma instead. No one knows how Facilier's mother died - whether it was by his own hand or natural causes, or someone else murdered her for whatever reason - but I headcanon Mama Odie as his grandmother due to the voodoo, just that her magic is used for good while Facilier's is used for evil (even being the light and dark).
Dr. Facelier’s death scene was one of the darkest moments in any Disney movie because of the implications I mean when you consider how much power these spirits had in the mortal realm what that means for their powers in their own realm
I just noticed that when Facilier shakes the prince's and Laurence's (the old baling guy), He shakes the Princes with the Right and Laurence's with his left. The prince's deal was FAR more admirable than Laurence's. Right hand is good, left is bad. You connect the dots.
I'm glad I'm not the only one~! Handsome, suave and quite the bean pole. >U< Lanky men are the best, in my opinion. That, and I can't resist the tailcoat and top hat.
It's quite possible his mother wasn't an actual voodu Queen. He could have been the "price" for an unplanned pregnancy. It wasn't uncommon for unwed mothers to abandon/give up their babies because of the social stigma. It's more likely his grandmother raised him, thus were he learned his dark magik. His admission, "I've got royalty on my mother's side". He wasn't wrong for saying that. At that time, despite the strong patriarchy, women on the other hand, especially within Creole traditions, were family leaders. They made the final decisions regarding family, social, and political matters. It's quite possible the female members of his family raised him and taught him dark magik or passed off as someone else's son.
Awesome video I love the songs and his storyline, they really made a cool princess story for the southern / Afro centric religions and beliefs in America. Very respectful, playful and quasi accurate. Just awesome . Great great video!!! My friend
This was super cool! I knew things about witchcraft because I too come from a long line of witches, and I know that hereditary witches are very powerful.
Facilier maybe descended from a voodoo queen or maybe he was originally a good guy who needed voodoo to use it for good but then he was having too much fun with it and forgot about his true goals and just went nuts with all this evil stuff.
Shrunken heads were made to protect people from the enemy whose head it belonged to, so that means that the queen on his mothers side must have been hated and might not be a major queen because as you said, people went to them for help and probably weren't hated by many people. Unless he killed them himself, thinking they were an enemy?
Ursala is without a doubt the most powerful, not only does she use some REALLY powerful magic of her own. She has natural strength and power to go along with it. Honestly the only thing that was keeping her from ruling Atlantica and the sea, was King Triton who is pretty much a god. And the ONLY reason she was taken down was due to a lucky strike of lightning.
Ursala was powerful, but not on her own. The only time she was able to use her own magic without making a deal with when she held the trident of Atlantis, before then she needed her victems to consent. However, she still has tremendous physical ability. Jafar relied on talismans like his staff, the scarabs, and of course the lamp. Without them he's powerless, unless you mean his genie form in which case his weakness is his master. Dr. Facilier showed some ability for magic outside of deals, but it was small level stuff, mostly his shadow partner and illusions. His greatest powers came from his friends on the other side. Maleficent wins the whole thing, because her magic power on her own is massive. She relies on nothing but herself. Separate her from her staff, she still has devistating magic. Does she need to make deals? Hell no, she spews curses all day long. Her power comes from no one and nothing but herself. The Evil Fairy wins that bout.
So I realized that u never made a hollaween town so can u please make a theory about like how it what or is it related to jack skellington and the night before Christmas pleeeeeeaaaaaase make it pleaseeeeeeeeeee
The song is super clever too “you want to be free *hopping* from place to place” and “I see green in your future” both clearly referring to turning the prince into a frog once you have the benefit of hindsight

Great video, but as a native of Louisiana, I must inform you that gris-gris is pronounced "gree-gree." Still, great theory. No reason he couldn't have been the descendant of a voodoo queen, or even European royalty, as the Creole people are a mélange of French, Spanish, and African.
I am surprised by how in depth your research is. I'm used to people thinking Voodoo and Hoodoo is one and the same. I do think your theory makes sense and it would explain why he wasn't necessarily made a king when he came of age.

@@caramel7050 yea
@SupremeEgyptianGodsman I respect your faithfulness in religion but at some point you have to realize that it's not really likely that it's real
Anyone else think that the Voodoo Queen that Facilier descended from is Madame Leota? Think about it: They both are powerful Voodoo weilders, summon spirits with the help of elaborate songs and chants, and, Both lived in New Orleans.
That makes sense esp the ending
I’ve got voodo, I got whodo, I got things I haven’t even tried!
And I got friends on the other side
Or more plausible a colonial masonic agent?
I want to give you props for how you gave details on Vodou. Dr F is a super fun character but a horrid representation of Vodou and I think the fact you refer to him as a Bokor really highlights that. Mama O is super interesting because of the style of her song, southern gospel. Hoodoo primarily came about in the south as a mix between folk magic and Protestant Christianity and I think Mama O really captures that.
After you mentioned that he focused on evil (left hand magic), I realized that he is left hand dominant.
I missed that detail until you brought it up.
That's really cool. Yes, I do think he was descended from a voodoo queen because voodoo seems to be the kind of thing that you have to be in the know to know, (you know?) and I'm not sure where else he'd go, because people outside the know tend to know squat about it.
Katelyn Sippert yes but mama odie was originally supposed to be his mother but that idea was cancelled
A theory about who is Freddie Facilier (Dr. Facilier's daughter from the Descendants Wicked World series) mother?
Wait...he has a daughter?!
It’s proli Charlotte lol
Dany Elric Yes, Dr. Facilier might have a daughter in the Descendants Wicked World Series, but that's Disney. Dreamworks created the Princess and the Frog, and I donut think they've planned for Dr. Facilier to have a daughter. If they did, they would have put a hint in there.
Naga Blackwing no
Mama Odie might not be Dr. Facilier's mother, but do you that they could be related in any way?
Connor Plisga, possibly an aunt or great - aunt. She mentioned how old she was when Naveen & Tiana 1st encountered her.
She did say “ how was messing w/ the shadow man “ so

I always wanted another video with Dr.Facilier and this was a very interesting one thank you
I understand you confusion as you are not from Louisiana nor do you (I assume) practise voodoo but gris-gris is pronounced (gree-gree)
angelbaby99 came in the comments hoping someone had already said this
I was gonna correct him too, but I'm glad my fellow Louisianians have done that already. I cringed a bit when he said that, and how he pronounced Marie Laveau's name and my hometown of New Orleans
Funny, in common french language "un gris-gris" these days indicates a small object seemingly without value financially but with an important religious value and to which you attribute supernatural power.
Thank you... I was hoping someone corrected him.
And tarot is tae-row and deity is day-ity.
While we’re on his pronunciation.
Whoa Isaac, are you okay? I'm not trying to be mean but your face looks a little sunburned.
Raven W he's just cute like that 😋
I watched a few of his earlier video's and even I noticed (I am not a sub....yet but I am leaning towards it since I love disney)
I thought it was a camera trick. Maybe its simply cold were you live Isaac. you also seem to have freckles but I might be wrong like 99% wrong.
Raven W idk he always seems to have a red face, but so does someone at my school, so it might just naturally be red
It's probably natural. I am not sure.
I'm a voodoo priest myself and your history of voodoo was bang on! Well done on the research
He Is ABSOLUTELY MY FAVORITE DISNEY VILLAIN
Of course he is, he was voiced by THE Keith David!
I wish he did a rap
Me too!
Wouldn’t have that been cool!
I think voodoo was a great magic to be used in the princess and the frog. The movie deviated from the original story but it showed African American and creole culture beautifully.
U r the only good Disney theroist on TH-cam love ya
Bloodmoon navi super Carlin brothers
Bloodmoon navi and Seamus Gorman!
Bloodmoon navi I assume you've been on TH-cam for a day?
Flippypoon The grunt more like 5 years...he is just my favorite
Bloodmoon navi there's no way this is the only good Disney theroist to you
This was amazing!!! You even went into depth about what voodoo and hoodoo actually is and included it's history. Thank you for do justice to the princess and the fog, I've always felt like that movie didn't get enough of the love that it deserved but you really went above and beyond with this!
The queens of creole descent were African descent as well.
Thank you because it was mentioned like Louisiana Creole is separate from African ancestry, when in fact there’s a big connection to Africa
@@dailyn2735 Yeah, it's always hurtful when people get it wrong like that. :/
Wouldn't it be ironic if Mama Odie was Dr. Facilier's mother. Just a suggestion.
Update:
Dang just saw where you had mentioned that she was gonna be his mom, but Disney writers scrapped that idea.
Tasha Shaw. I'm glad they did, why not make him a nephew or grand nephew as Mama Odie revealed her age at her debut appearance in the movie.
@@labelledamedumanor4876 and that would mean she’s Tiana’s grandma, and Tiana would already know her, which she doesn’t
OMG LISTEN CLOSELY TO THE SONG... AND THE CARD AT 4:34 THE HIGHLIGHT IS A LILY PAD... AND HE MENTIONS "You need GREENS (frog colour) to HOP (frog movement) HE IS INDIRECTLY TELLING NAVEAN THAT HE'LL BECOME A FROG
I JUST REALISED THE HECK?!?! AND NAVEAN'S SERVENT/ GUIDE (or whatever he is) IN HIS CARD HE WAS RICH... MEANING HE WAS GONING TO FAKE AS PRINCE NAVEAN AND MARRY CHARLOTTE (I think that's her name) MAKING HIM RICH. Song lyric "You need to marry a little honey which her daddy got dough (money)" HE IS SAYING EVERYTHING THAT HE'LL DO
Yeah that's most animated songs for you. Kids are singing along and everything but, it's literally telling you what's about to happen or the theme of the film. I learned this as a little kid watching Tarzan - hint the opening song 'Two Worlds' by Phil Collins.
@@MRS.TRIPLE-A321 it also proves a lil that he wasn't super underhanded much like Ursula from lil mermaid. they both say the pro/cons of the deal and get you to agree to it. while providing fore shadowing.
I've never heard someone pronounce Marie Laveau like that xD
Rebbb stfu I bet you can’t pronounce khaled the right way lol
Can you do an Oogie Boogie back story for Halloween?
Baby Groot That's Such A Great Idea Especially Its Halloween

Baby Groot Your Welcome
Baby Groot are you really Baby Groot
Very informative, but Gris-Gris is actually pronounced “Gree-Gree”, still a very good video and interesting
Dr Facilier is litterally my favorite character
Is Peter Pan's and Dr. Facilier shadows connected
Quiana Whitehead, 2 sides of the same magic possibly.
Quiana Whitehead yup
I notice that on the cards, on the hands designs, there are eyes. Those eyes are actually called the Eye of Horus, one of many egyptian gods, who was the son of the king of the underworld while he was alive. Horus is a symbol for power, so it is a cool easter egg.
Snow Whits backstory like her childhood and her parents before the evil queen. please read and like
Isn't there a fairy tale (Snow White and Rose Red) that talks about some of that? Maybe he could use that, at least in part.
snow whites father was king her mother was queen, her mother died of illness during snow's childhood or after childbirth i believe and i think her father also died of illness originally? i could be wrong.
Emily L. They aren't the same person the characters just have the same name.
Facilier.
Wait ! I'm not even a pro of Voodoo or Hoodoo thingies and thingamajigs and watchamacallits and even whatsherfaces ( Voodoo queens )
Facilier did voodoo for personal gain
Mama Odie used voodoo to help people
6:23 that timing with his face when he removes his hat
He be like: "Oh... damn. Really bald"
To be honest I thought he was just joking around when he said he was a royal on his mother's side. :/
Dr Gun yeah but therorizors like to read to much into things
I also took it as a light "heritage" joke, since Creoles are mixed with many things, including French and African. The beheaded woman he holds up made me go, "Hah, a French Revolution joke, nice."
I don't know about you guys but I loved The Princess and The Frog🐸👑
Tiana was a hard worker, glad her dreams came true
This man became a super quick fave of mine just recently. I swear, I'd invite him to any party with those dance moves and smooth voice!
Honestly, while Mama Odie being his mother was scrapped, I can truly see her as his grandma instead. No one knows how Facilier's mother died - whether it was by his own hand or natural causes, or someone else murdered her for whatever reason - but I headcanon Mama Odie as his grandmother due to the voodoo, just that her magic is used for good while Facilier's is used for evil (even being the light and dark).
Good video, but two things to note:
Tarot is pronounced tare-o, not tare-rot, and...deities are day-it-ease, not diet-ease.
He has a different way of pronouncing words. deity is a common word. Its like pronouncing "caramel" as car-mul instead of car-uh-mel
Charles Lee correct! And other person who commented, no, it’s really not the same. It’s only pronounced as shown above.
Its pronounced both ways.
and gris gris is pronounced "gree gree"
Dr. Facelier’s death scene was one of the darkest moments in any Disney movie because of the implications I mean when you consider how much power these spirits had in the mortal realm what that means for their powers in their own realm
ALWAYS post's the best videos!!! That cheeky smile gets me again!!!! 😍😍😍😘😘
I just noticed that when Facilier shakes the prince's and Laurence's (the old baling guy), He shakes the Princes with the Right and Laurence's with his left. The prince's deal was FAR more admirable than Laurence's. Right hand is good, left is bad. You connect the dots.
This was really good! You’re a smort boi! Also, I think you are 100% right on him being the son of a voodoo queen.
hey can you do a dizzy's backstory video
I always thought the voodoo doctor was sexy 😂😂
I'm glad I'm not the only one~! Handsome, suave and quite the bean pole. >U< Lanky men are the best, in my opinion. That, and I can't resist the tailcoat and top hat.
Same xD
same! 💕
*literally same he's my Disney Crush*
He hella foine🤤😂
Really liked the real history mixed in... Great video!
Isaac can you do a Halloween town video how it was created
Now I want to watch American Horror Story Coven again. 😂
Thanks so much for using my suggestion! Love you guys!
He has purple eyes like Meg's
So he's in fact quarter-god?
Yep he does have purple eyes in fact aurora has purple eyes too
Princess Aurora has purple eyes too
Very informative I did not even know Hoodoo was an actual thing. Your theory about Dr. Facilier's mother makes perfect sense.
After watching 15 of your videos I had to subscribe!!
Awesome video I love the songs and his storyline, they really made a cool princess story for the southern / Afro centric religions and beliefs in America. Very respectful, playful and quasi accurate. Just awesome .
Great great video!!! My friend
I saw your analysis on “Poor unfortunate souls” and I personally think you would make a killing covering “friends on the other side”
That was not where I thought this was going and I learned a lot about history I didn't know about! Love this channel :)
Could you maybe examine where Fairy Godmother’s wand from Cinderella came from? BTW, I love all of your videos
Dream dimension
Mayor bellwether's backstory like why did she decide to shoot predators with the night howlers.
Pikachu U2
Wasnt it obvious in the movie?
She literally says why she shot the predators and not the prey
Maybe they mean why she wanted the power.
Great video, you should do a video on the live action version of cruella deville from the 101 and102 Dalmatians movies. Thanks for your hard work 😜
This was super cool! I knew things about witchcraft because I too come from a long line of witches, and I know that hereditary witches are very powerful.
Dr. Facilier my also have African Royal blood, as well as French noble blood.
Facilier maybe descended from a voodoo queen or maybe he was originally a good guy who needed voodoo to use it for good but then he was having too much fun with it and forgot about his true goals and just went nuts with all this evil stuff.
can you make more of these faciliers episodes please
Shrunken heads were made to protect people from the enemy whose head it belonged to, so that means that the queen on his mothers side must have been hated and might not be a major queen because as you said, people went to them for help and probably weren't hated by many people. Unless he killed them himself, thinking they were an enemy?
Dr facilier died while his own theme song was playing
When he said “im a royal myself on my mothers side” i automatically thought his mother HAS to be Marie Laveau, The voodoo queen!
In your opinion, who was stronger, Jafar, Ursula, Maleficent or Dr. Facilier?
There all in a league of their own. Mistress of all evil, need I say more. but it movie is underwater, Ursula.
Shaun Dedmon
Jafar is slightly more powerful than facilier because he doesn't rely on other entities
Maleficent
he's my favorite disney villian because he actually scares me.
So I realized that u never made a hollaween town so can u please make a theory about like how it what or is it related to jack skellington and the night before Christmas pleeeeeeaaaaaase make it pleaseeeeeeeeeee
Yes, that's a good one. In fact, what about a theory for the towns in general in that movie? We have no idea why they exist.
great idea fireorb2
He did made a video about who is jack skeleton
Chloawesome10 I didn't say make a video about how jack is I said if he can make a video about Halloween town like from Disney soo shabooya ohh and
The song is super clever too “you want to be free *hopping* from place to place” and “I see green in your future” both clearly referring to turning the prince into a frog once you have the benefit of hindsight
I just want say hello to my fellow Haitian Americans!🇭🇹👌🏾👏🏾 P.S great theory!
This was really interesting! I don't watch a ton a disney theory videos but I really enjoyed the amount of hoodoo and voodoo history you included. Keep up the good work!

I'm from New Orleans, and our most famous Voodoo Queen is Marie Laveau. Many people come here just to visit her tomb.
Great video, but as a native of Louisiana, I must inform you that gris-gris is pronounced "gree-gree." Still, great theory. No reason he couldn't have been the descendant of a voodoo queen, or even European royalty, as the Creole people are a mélange of French, Spanish, and African.
Yay you actually replied to my comment from months ago! I am so happy :)
Another great video thank you
I always took the "I'm a royal myself on my mothers side" to mean he was related to Madame Marie Laveau, who was the Queen of Voodoo.
u mean a voodoo queen not the queen of voodoo
makes sense, but then who shrunk her head?
The man needs his own film.
Yes He Is The Powerful Disney Villain. 😊👍
I am surprised by how in depth your research is. I'm used to people thinking Voodoo and Hoodoo is one and the same. I do think your theory makes sense and it would explain why he wasn't necessarily made a king when he came of age.
