- Expert chef Frank from the Institute of Culinary Education and home cook Gabi are swapping materials and hoping for the best! We gave Gabi $260 worth of ingredients and Frank's recipe notebook, then asked her to recreate his pork chop dinner as best she could. To lend a remote helping hand, food scientist Rose dialed in for a brief teleconference and pep talk. On the other side, Frank received a meager $17 worth of supplies and tried to improvise his way up to gourmet. Who’s got the chops to succeed under these mixed up circumstances?

I really like these shows. Especially this series. It basically has 2 gourmet food. One made with expensive ingredients and the home cook would follow the chef's recipe, so it's bound to be amazing. And one where the pro works with simpler ingredients and show their mastery of flavor. Very interesting to watch.

One thing I love about this series is that even with all of Frank's experience it always feels like he respects the other person's recipe. He doesn't use his status to belittle or talk down to the other person.

Frank playfully gets upset when his ingredients are taken, but you can tell he enjoys working with the basic stuff too, and he legitimately loves seeing what these level 2 chefs can do with stuff they'd never get to use otherwise.

This is a good combo! Frank, because it's Frank. But really, he's good in front of the camera, giving good tips, and he doesn't fart around with stuffy BS. Gabi is entertaining and comfortable in front of the camera and that is awesome, and most importantly she likes Frank as much as the comments section here, hahaha. I think she's a good counter to Frank, and basically a good stand-in for the knowledge level of the home viewer!
