Turned out sweet! Rip the tape off snd mark off the edge with painters tape, then spray with black flex seal spray. Itll make your kevlar look factory fresh 👌🏼
I just did this. Saved the rubber edges before cutting the helmet, JB welded the edge, sanded it, gorilla glued the rubber back on, then taped the edges to flex-sealed the entire rim to fade in my glued edges. Made a MICH 2002 length and it looks great.
Im debating spray painting flex seal on a cvc I acquired but I don’t wanna ruin it. If u know anyone who has used flex seal spray on Kevlar how’d it turn out?
nice to see more babyface P content, if I go this route I would put a rubberized coating around the edge. something like LINE-X or Flex seal would work well for keeping the kevlar/amarid in place without worrying about the adhesive breaking down and paint. good vid though
"Didn't want to go at this blind and screw around for 30 mins on a video...." Bruh I feel this. I'm staring at almost 3 hours of footage I need to cut to a 20 min vlog. I need to film less! Haha good video as always dude.
Damn I really needa start a channel. For now though, here’s a protip: Upol Raptorliner is your BFF for this. You can either blast the whole helmet, or just tape out the edges you want (where rubbers used to be) and spray them, then pull tape for a clean, indestructible edging. It comes in black (duh) it now in tintable White, including FDE/OD tints. Great job and vid, BTW. Subd. 👊🏽
Couple of suggestions: First when painting on ground at least put a piece of cardboard down. Maybe invest in a card table and put newspaper or cardboard over it so you are not bending on the ground to paint. Second, try getting some automotive rubber trim for the edge and glue the trim to the helmet. Great job though. Thank you.
Good job man, I have a Ops-core FAST SX large on sale for $640, weight honestly is comparable. To be able to save $400 or more for a weekend project is great. Good job man.
As a “proper seal” I bought some rubber RV trim for my RV and it looks close. Google rubber edge trim for RV or Automobile, and you could probably find something to work.
@BabyFaceP I got a few questions for ya:) 1. How did you remove the old rubber trim? 2. The SBR rubber trim from McMaster-Carr is it special in any way material wise or is just like any other rubber trim? 3. What glue/adhesive did you use for the rubber trim? Someone commented that the JB marineweld doesn’t really stick well to rubber.
What if you reused the rubber edge cover? I feel like, with the help of a heat gun, you could install it right after you apply the epoxy. It would probably look nicer and be more resistant to damage.
Did you do anything to seal the holes you drilled for the shroud? I've got an old helmet I just want to drill for an old one hole shroud for functional clone purposes.
Looks alright for what it is. I am curious for a better option than the tape on the edges. I wonder what they actually use for helmets from the factory.
Hey brother! Love your videos I just got my ACH in and I’m ready to cut A few questions 1) how did you mark it , it kinda looks like chaulk? 2) how long did the JB WELD take to setup
I paid $65 for a pasgt, just ordered a retention system and padding to ditch the old leather suspension system, and ordered foam padding, I'm gonna line x mine black then spray paint camo pattern, add arc rails later down the road, I'm using some rubber door gasket on mine, and pryuse marine epoxy, but I'd go with gorilla brand flex seal tape, but use rtv epoxy to help seal rest of the tape then line x it, and paint camo color
Would this in anyway affect ballistics performance? I feel like all that alteration would mess up the tightness of the Kevlar but idk much just honestly curious if anyone would know.
Some testing by nerds on the cut-off ear-flaps seems to indicate that they're still okay if properly sealed. But the "official" answer is that it's not super advisable, but getting shot in the head isn't really either.
MEME Simp: Paiding 2,000 dollars OpsCore level 3 Ballistic Fast Helmet costly you finically aid broken. Vs Chad: Buying ACH/Mich Military helmet cost between 200 to 300 dollars from Surplus Store. Plus build your own Fast Helmet with tools from Harbor Frieght at Home.
I've cut well into the hundreds of helmets from the PASGT, ACH, LWH and ECH. I don't recommend the Chinese helmets because their laminating process is horrible and once you start cutting all those unsealed kevlar fibers start exposing. If you want a good rubber edging i would suggest using a butyl rubber about the thickness of a bicycle tire and bonded on with 3M rubber adhesive.
Technically yes, how much? Who knows. The integrity of the helmet isnt 100% when they drill the factory holes for the chin strap. This probably makes a negligible difference.
Oh my buddy I wanted to do a helmet like this build it my own there's a custom helmet that has a bullet proof mask on etzy it's cost is 1k will post the link see if u can add the kevlar mask it looks awesome like the shredder helmet an mask
A guy told me to use bicycle inner tube. I tried it but sucked at cutting it to size and failed miserably. I’m going to try rubber sealants putty tape next. If that doesn’t work, anyone recommend anything else? I’ve tried other things too and couldn’t get it. Someone should make an instructions video on how to do it.
Dude you REALLY need to do a better job sealing the the helmet after you cut it. Cutting an ACH is fine but you really need to do a more thorough job on it.
Would have been great to know what rails you used/where you got them. How you oriented the ngv mount and how you marked the rails out. Videos like 50% useless and then a good chunk of the other 50% you stood directly in front of camera 🤦
Spray painting in the dirt? Seriously? By the way, the impact of your jigsaw cutting ballistic material GREATLY reduces the integrity of your helmet. The area around your cut out are now completely ruined. Simply read up on doing exactly what you just did by any ballistic helmet manufacturer and you'll see I'm not breaking your stones. If this is just an airsoft helmet then no worries and pretty cool job. Just watch your environment when spray painting any job. Keep the videos coming. I'm serving in the Ukraine as a medic and bought my own helmet. $2,000 USD. There are so many styles and accessories you can then keep your helmet safe and your brain matter inside where it belongs. Have a great day mate. Cheers.. 🇺🇦🫡
Turned out sweet! Rip the tape off snd mark off the edge with painters tape, then spray with black flex seal spray. Itll make your kevlar look factory fresh 👌🏼
This is why the comments are so important
To use wide marking tape and apply thick layer of flex seal paint and when removing the marking tape it will looks like an edge liner?

For when you're chasing tornados in the dark.
I know im late to the video, but i did this to my helmet and it turned out great. Its amazing how we can customize our gear to better fit us.
Recommend using steel epoxy mix on the edge, sand down after desired shape. Get a nice lip. 👌🏼

Would any bedliner typer of paint work? Or is there something specific to the raptor liner brand that does the trick here?
Thanks for making this video! I learned a lot. Keep it up dude!

Dorman 926-252 cut off the excess rubber, and it makes a great edge
My brother in christ did you really just finger paint with JB weld 😂 WITH NO GLOVES?! Hahahaha
I did this about 8 years ago and reused the rubber edge guard that came on the helmet!!
Is there a need to seal up the screw holes under the three hole mount? Those were just spray painted over right?
Great stuff. Love the idea.
Wow super good job 👏🏾 I can’t wait to mod mine
Seen in surplus stores ACH helments stripped down for $50.00. This is a sweet Idea.

Did you use the rust oleum camouflage 1919 color?? Love how it turned out
What if you reused the rubber edge cover? I feel like, with the help of a heat gun, you could install it right after you apply the epoxy. It would probably look nicer and be more resistant to damage.
Yeah you probably could, but I mean you could find some rubber edging at the hardware store for cheap
drilling the 3 holes for the shroud yourself. How did you line everything up?
Zip systems makes a stretchable window and door tape for sealingout water
Looks great. Where did you source your helmet
Amazing vid as always sir! God bless! ✝️🧡
Did you do anything to seal the holes you drilled for the shroud? I've got an old helmet I just want to drill for an old one hole shroud for functional clone purposes.
The same epoxy would work well for the holes.
Maybe layer up a few layers of Flex Seal instead of using tape
Do you think rattle can flex seal would work alright for the seal around the bottom if you were to mask a good straight edge?
I've actually head of dudes doing that year.
Looks alright for what it is. I am curious for a better option than the tape on the edges. I wonder what they actually use for helmets from the factory.
Search around for edge trim liner, there's racing stuff that should work.
The manufacturers use and extruded U channel rubber edging that's made in a mold. Then bonded to the helmet with contact adhesive.
The only reason I'd do this is so I can get those special muff mounts so I can click them out and vent my ears.
If M.A.C. and adam savage had a really corny inadequate baby
Hey brother! Love your videos
I just got my ACH in and I’m ready to cut
A few questions
1) how did you mark it , it kinda looks like chaulk?
2) how long did the JB WELD take to setup
Sharpie and 10 minutes
Which suspension system did you go with?
Question, why not use a diamond cutting blade for a smoother cut?
I would seal it off rest of way with rtv on the gasket, then use line x then paint
Car window door trim I think in will work great instead of that tape
I did this a couple years ago with a sawzall and a bottle of water to spray the blade with to stop it from burning up and keep dust down
Nice
I have the same paint booth!
What kind of bit did you use for the shroud?
Just a quick question because I am getting my ech helmet cut to a high cut. What rails should I buy ? I am a little confused.
Yea the tape is the only thing that doesnt look great. Works though. Id be looking into a rubber u type seal
Awesome
Leeeeeeets gooooo
It looks amazing, man!!
Pretty good. There are probably more elegant solutions, but the rubber line was a great touch. an excellent helmet for biking
Wish I saw this first. I did it with a hacksaw, anger, and a whole lot of spite…
For the weather stripping why not take your cut peice to homedepot and find the right size weather strip
I posted a follow up with the proper weather strip.
Looking for chin strap and comfort pads for a PASgt type helmet. Will the once you used on ACH work?
Yeah should work
Are there any covers for a high cut ACH? Or do the FAST covers work for them?
I made mine and I was able to use my old fast cover from the Marine Corps and it work like a charm
Awesome tutorial!
Only practical use is if you stole someones ach but still great tutorial!
Does this effect the ballistic protection when you cut it
Looks great! I'm getting ready to do this to mine..question: easy is it to screw up? Any thing that you would do differently?
I paid $65 for a pasgt, just ordered a retention system and padding to ditch the old leather suspension system, and ordered foam padding, I'm gonna line x mine black then spray paint camo pattern, add arc rails later down the road, I'm using some rubber door gasket on mine, and pryuse marine epoxy, but I'd go with gorilla brand flex seal tape, but use rtv epoxy to help seal rest of the tape then line x it, and paint camo color
So all in all 65 bucks for the helmet initially whats your total cost?
Would this in anyway affect ballistics performance? I feel like all that alteration would mess up the tightness of the Kevlar but idk much just honestly curious if anyone would know.

how did you make sure the shroud was centered? thanks.
And to think that Militech is offering NIJ IIIA rated ballistic ear covers for FAST helmets. Hmmmmmm.
Can you link the pad and Velcro kits?

Ok I’m intrigued but I’d definitely swap out the gorilla tape for something, dunno what tho
I ended up removing the tape, trying to figure out the next idea
My paint booth is also my back yard
Maybe some automotive door trim would work. Like for a large truck or something.
I picked up some trim from McMaster, going to do an update vid.
@@BabyFaceP What part number from M.C.???

Still working the kevlar protection?
Where’d you get the kit from?
Do you have any other socials had a couple questions on this
Baby_facep on instagram
Did you use standard arc rails or the ACH rails?
Knock off ACH arc rails.
Which one? Thanks.
Stupid question, but won’t this compromise the integrity of the helmet? Debating about picking up one from an Army Surplus.

What size drill bit did you use?
To be honest I don't know. I dug through the tool box until I found one that was about the size of the screw.
Use a cut wheel with a rotary tool. Much easier.
