This show was wonderful. The casting was perfect and could not have been chosen any better. This was a true western without a bunch of over the hill crap. I enjoyed it so much, when it came out on DVD I bought one. Purely fantastic.

Duvall couldn't have won an Academy award for Lonesome Dove because it was a miniseries, not a movie. It did win some Emmy's and Duvall won a Golden Globe.

While working the roping box during rodeo slack, we would all be throwing out one liners from Lonesome Dove. This has to be every cowboy's favorite movie. I've read every book numerous times also. The books are great! Thanks for this amazing follow up on the actors, Mr. Skinner! You have the wonderful voice of an ol' time storyteller. Very suitable for this film.

I still have a memory of my parents and grandparents catching me sneaking out behind the couch after bedtime to watch TV. This time, they were watching Lonesome Dove and they were all shocked and sad about some guy who was hanged.

I watched this excellent series many years ago and recently came across it on TH-cam and I watched the whole Six Hours couldn't stop watching I was choked up when Duval past away brilliant acting by both Tommy and Robert.

Just finished watching it again. I'm proud of my only friend, we also have a great friendship, we are both fast approaching our final years and have often discussed how we will care for each other's needs when the time comes. There is nothing as great as a life long best friend.
I bought the hardcover copy at a thrift store and as I was reading it I kept picturing Robert Duvall as Gus. It was probebly a year later when I bought the DVD that I found out it actually was Robert Duvall. He was born to play that part. I thought he was a poor Robert E Lee but an excellent Gus.

The book was followed really well. One piece of trivia however, Gus was bigger than call, by character design. The smaller Cpt. Call character was short but bigger than life and respected as such. Nevertheless, TL was perfect in every other way.
All the characters in lonesome dove couldn’t have been better! Love them all! I just wish the return would of been the same characters but it was still great!

I am most impressed with Danny Glover's bio, his early childhood and how hard he worked to become such an outstanding performer, along with James Earl Jones, Morgan Freeman, and a few others in the male category. One of my all time favorite movies is "The Color Purple," I still watch it till this day, as recently as last week, and probably for the 200th+ time. ツ

McMurtry didn't draw on his imagination for the story of Lonesome Dove, he listened to the old cowboy stories in North TX to write that book.
