    What's up cool artists! It's been a little while since last - I've been in steady work mode with my students, courses and other things since then. And since you guys have been asking a lot about more sketching videos, I thought I'd make this for ya.
    Try this out: Use more angular and "boxy" lines when you're sketching and drawing. No more sloppy lines! This can improve the look of your sketches tremendously. It's also easier, I find.
    ABOUT SKETCH COURSE: I'll soon release a new mini-course in sketching - Sketchmaster - where you'll learn all the basics on sketching, shading, tools, tips and tricks, sketching walkthroughs, and more. Stay tuned for that!

    I wanted to let you know I tried sketching an animal I've never drawn before (a frog) from a reference image, using this sketching method, and it turned out really well. I'm going to try do a handful of sketches a day like this, because I think this is a key to me learning to do quick gestural sketches. Thank you so much for this video

    It was more helpful for me to see that you rely on your eraser as much as I do as a professional than the picture of the narwhal. For some reason I had the idea that experienced artists don't have to correct as they go. I can see how stupid that idea is. Thanks for not editing that out. I def won't be beating myself up as much in future.

    Hi, Walid! Hi everyone.
    I've watched your other videos about thumbnails painting and quick scene sketching by using limited values. I've got a hang of it in black & white, but now my question is how do I actually go from my value studies to colored pieces? Do I keep the value sketch on the side as a reference of where each value (with colors) should be, or do I cover each value area with its own color and go from there? (It's probably going to be harder with full value range later...).
    Anyone's reply is welcomed. Thanks.

      Hey! The gates to the course reopen on February 20th, so just a couple days more. The reason I close it and reopen is so I can focus on the students that do come in every enrollment window, so everyone takes the course at the same time with the same modules, and so on. It provides a better learning experience too :) of course this can all be done at your own pace, as you have lifetime access. Hope to see you in there!

    I have to disagree.
    Angular lines does not mean it will look better or more interesting. Or that it will "fix how your sketches look" This is a style choice.
    Many professional artists draw in fluid curving lines, off the top of my head early Disney character concept art comes to mind. A lot of those are very fluid and rounded curves and are very pleasing to look at. It's just a matter of knowing how to use lines and form correctly.
    Angular lines does not always mean it's going to make it look better.
    Again, that is a style choice.

    • @WalidFeghali
      @WalidFeghali  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Hey! You definitely have a good point here. What I'm saying in the video is that trying to pull off nice looking flowy curvy lines takes a lot more from beginners than simplifying into more angular and geometric shapes. :) It's all a stylistic choice if you feel both are doable and can create some sweet looking art. Best, W.
