Mike is responsible for my recent bicep growth after a decade of lifting....i have to admit i was doing everything wrong and correcting stuff will take a while
@@liamburns8554 honestly man I'm watching carefully his videos before I do my sets especially for biceps and side/rear delts and I try do to my best to do it like he shows it. Cutting the weight I lift on pretty much every exercise helped tremendously
Same with my back. I am able to max out a seated cable row, 300 pounds, for 10 reps, but wasn’t really seeing any improvement. I dropped the weight down to 200, applied his techniques and my back has grown an insane amount in the last 6 months. Probably more improvement in 6 months, than I had in the previous 6 years, and I’m not exaggerating.
Yeah lots of people think its all about just moving the weight, and trying to move the whole stack..but if you're a natural, proper form is way more important
What you said near the end about the chest is so true. Im always seeing people putting all emphasis on that squeeze when doing any chest exercise, and I did the same myself for many years before finding its at the bottom of the range of movement at the stretch where the 'magic happens' and you're really hitting the muscle fibres. That squeeze at the top of the movement is just an illusion as it is nothing but a squeeze which just feels like its doing more than it actually is
Mike id love your take on this science geek thing, they are absolutley obsessed with push pull legs and not having an arm day. Every legit bodybuilder has an arm day or at least prioritizes arms in a split. Science guys think its a waste and all have shit arms. But they have their 6x a week PPL.
I fuck with your rants on the gym and your outlook on life. I don’t even come here for tips anymore. I just like to hear your opinions and your perspective on all the fuck shit in gym culture. You hilarious dude.
I love it bro!! I'm 60 years old and have been bodybuilding for over 40 years and it is so hilarious how much people overthink. Especially when they spend a ton of money on supplements. I would rather go to the store and have real food bro. And then I'll see young guys doing these crazy exercise movements that are absolutely meaningless for growth. But these same guys will not listen to me because I'm too old and not of their crowd of people.
I dropped my weight load by about 55-60% and I have the best training sessions I've had in a long time. My right and left elbow/arm injuries have drastically subsided. I'll use your methods for the rest of my life lol. Thank you.
I’m busy combining Mike’s advice and Fouad’s words of wisdom on food. So, progressive resistance is the key… Yesterday I ate 4 mini tubs of ice cream, tonight it was an easy 5 and tomorrow I aim to crush 6 tubs. When I can manage 12 to 15 (should be soon), I’m going to increase the size of the tubs and drop back to 4 or 5 a day on this ‘Mess of…” cycle. HTF I’m going to get down below 300lb is a bigger worry though. Hopefully more future videos will come out to help there.
The rants are for those that are really into the reality of bodybuilding. For an older natural person like me(who just wants to look ok, gets a physiological benefit from lifting, and don’t want to get a forking injury) the videos were he trains different people are beneficial, and the focused techniques on body muscle groups are incredibly beneficial as well. I suppose you can make only so many videos on proper bicep technique before going insane, but I always get a little bit of a new perspective (partly because i’m stupid and forget sheet).
As much as i want to see exercise videos, I have seen my workout feel better using your suggestions on these kinds of videos. i used to sneeze a dumbbells until you showed how to really curl. ha ha. Not gonna be bodybuilder at 52 but i sure want to do it right at home and at the gym. Thanks MVW.
Mike right as always its about set and rep execution and how hard you work. Debating volume is nonsense when set and rep execution is unique. Focus should be on what Mike preaches and then worry about frequency volume etc Oh snap Mike ripped on high frequency here comes the hate. Mike the science geeks now profess 2 or 3 x a week pwe bodypart or no growth i guess Mentzer and Dorian missed out aww damn. 😅
Hopefully you will answer this Big Mike? But why? I get it, I am a fan, I am doing your stuff, its fah-king great advice, my muscles are screaming after your technique and training changes. So how do I use this new training? 56 years young, I assume this intensity and soreness would require more time off then? I know if its sore.. then dont train it. Can you recommend a workout split or your personal split?
19:03 I recall seeing similar photos in magazines from the 80s. They were the primary way to convey intensity in a still image. Tom Platz had it down to an art.
Branch Warren, holy shit, I remember watching a video with him in it and he got thrown from his horse. Lol. Right before a competition too. Can't remember the injury but he got up ready to punch that horse.
Louie Simmons said something like:”Intensity has nothing to do with how you’re feeling, its a mathematical formula.” And then ofc volume is sets x reps
Some people might get incredible results and their genetics play a big part. So it doesn't mean that their way would be better for you just because they got great results
Dang Mike. You blast people for getting offended at some of your input on certain mindsets but then you say you're worried because that one guy would even ask a question related to volume/intensity. Ease up. Unless there was more to his post than you read, all he did was ask your opinion which means he values & trusts your input
I’m just wondering if someone can give me some advice. So lately when I do a row machine or any row machine really and I let my back really stretch out I get this pain in my clavicle that travels to my mid trap area. Any idea anyone??
Totally off topic- I've been coming across Hani Rambod shorts on TH-cam. I've heard Fouad call him "the best" coach. But wtf does he really do other than count out loud as his clients do the work? He stares at Cbums legs while he does leg extensions. He says good job, keep going... I can do all that too!! Am I missing something? I'm assuming his Forte the nutritional advice department? I couldn't think of a better person to bring this up to than you.
When you hear Nathan Grimes and Iain Valliere talk about how technical and nuisanced, his training is you can appreciate it. Iain did legs with Mike and had savage DOMS for over a week. I’d say it was pretty affective.
Hany seems to throw everything but the kitchen sink in his training sessions, that's literally his approach with Chris right now. They seem to be doing Dorian Yates HIT but with high volume and 6 exercises per bodypart. Chris has been working with him for a year and he already had a small tear in one of his quads and a big one in one of his biceps during his last prep, issues he never had with Iain, who in my opinion has a really thoughtful approach to training. Having said that, Hany seems to be the best coach to get an athlete in contest shape and peak him perfectly for a show, Jansen is the only one that's close in that regard, so he definitely knows what he's doing nutrition and PED wise, which is probably more important at this point for Bumstead than training, he already knows what he's doing and Hany isn't going to teach him anything.
@maenlest17 I agree. I've also noticed that Chris visually looks like he's kinda annoyed with Hani in the videos. Like " I know what I'm doing " type of look.
I think Mike was off the mark when he seemed to imply those who say volume is useful don't understand it isn't for everyone. I think the "train to failure volume is irrelevant" crowd is the strident one. All the ones I've heard promoting volume were very reasonable, and understood regular people need to make tradeoffs to keep working out while working jobs and supporting families.
