How to: Supercapacitor Bank Build. Replacing underhood battery with SuperCapacitor Bank

- We are doing several things today. First, we are describing the build configuration for a supercapacitor back for a 12V vehicle. Then we will demonstrate building the Supercapacitor bank using Ioxus 2.7V 2000F supercapacitors from DroppinHurtz.com. Finally, we are going to install the Supercapacitor bank in my 2018 Mitsubishi Mirage or the "go-cart", under the hood to replace the lead acid stock battery.

Super helpful! Thank you for this
Very helpful man
i built my own, works great on my solar system,,, and wind turbine,
How does the cap battery hold up with your audio? I need something to help Volt drop in my system, running 3600W rms but cannot fit a alternator, my stock is 120amp on an agm 120ah and another 120agm for my amps.
Great video, loved it, very inspiring 👍
First off, thank you. The cap bank works great. I do have it with a 240amp alt and 128ah of headway though. On a 6000 watt amp, it really seems to help buffer the voltage drops. I rarely see under 14v
Begginer here, I’ve got the same car 2014 model though currently running a jl CP112w0V3 on a jx500/1. I’m running into issues with light slightly dimming and Headunit not turning on next time I start the car. I believe it’s just not enough factory power and I can seem to find upgraded alternators. So if I was to run this same set up would it help?
Maybe. Possibly try and upgrade the batter to a AGM battery for a simpler fix. However, headlight dimming is almost always going to happen to some extent when large current draws occur very quickly (as with bass). I’ve heard that if you really want to fully eliminate this, then you must upgrade your headlights to halogen bulbs. I have a 240 amp alt built by BrandX. Your head unit not turning on… that seems like more of a wiring issue. Maybe some loose wires, or the head unit itself having an issue. The head unit draws minimal current. If your batter us enough juice to start the car, then it has enough juice to turn on the head unit.
Bro that face mane is magestic
lol thanks man.

When you put the bank on a charger before installing it, did you use a standard battery charger or did you use one that was designed to charge at a higher voltage?
I just used a standard battery charger
@@Husky_Shane_Basshead awesome thanks, keep up with the videos, videos like yours give me some reassurance I'm not the only knucklehead out here trying to DIY it.
I think during the video you said you were going to use a 12v lithium battery as well. Did you end to using this to power the items in the car that need power when not running?
Is there a LIFEPO4 lithium battery connected in parallel in your current installation of the super capacitors? What wire cross-section can you use for that, also a 4 AWG wire? The question then is how you can connect such a thick wire to this lithium battery that has flat clamps.
I have a Yinlong bank wired in parallel located in the trunk area. I have a 1/0 running to the back. I’m not sure what you mean by “flat clamps”
Thank you for your update. I have a 12V LIFEPO4 with built-in BMS that has overvoltage and undervoltage protection. Only this one has flat clamps. Example: m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71hECyUUOnL.jpg

Thank you!
Did you mention the specs of caps? Mfd?
14:14 professional drop (˃ ⌑ ˂ഃ )
What size is the eye of the yellow connector of the 4 awg wire?
I don’t really remember TBH.
Hardware and bars can be bought at Jims machine .
Thanks
any videos about that PAP subwoofer in action ?
Not yet, soon to come though.
@@Husky_Shane_Basshead Awesome, I will be reveling my new set up soon as well with my 18s
Can you charge them in the cold. Like freezing degrees
I’m not sure. I live in Queen Creek Arizona so don’t have to worry about that.
How well does this type of battery do in the cold ?
Mine seems to do well… though I live in AZ so I’m not really the one to ask. It rarely if ever gets cold enough here to effect the way any battery would operate. We have the opposite problem lol.
Mi. Here. N Great.
What is that box on the side of the battery, and unless I missed something, why diid you not speak of it?
It’s a small fuse box I used to replace the factor fuse box that comes on the factory battery terminal. I discuss it in one of my other videos. Sorry for the confusion, I probably should have mentioned here.
Where did you get the black battery shell? I can't seem to find one anywhere.
eBay or AliExpress
OK, I was using the wrong search terms for the battery box. I finally found it on Ebay by searching for: "Empty DIY battery box shell case for lithium lifepo4 battery projects". Hope that helps anyone else.
Ok you got me thinking now lol. So idk where u live, but will it work well in winter here in Ohio? And can you run it parallel with a headway bank? I'd like to ditch my xs power D3400 and got full lithium.
As far as I’m aware, these types of batteries work better in the cold than the heat, so you should be ok where you live. super caps charge differently than batteries. This set up should be fine to run in parallel with a headway lithium bank.
@Husky_Shane_Basshead sweet, I'm about to go for it. I was gonna use one of those $150 Bluetooth cap banks that is the same brand I believe, but I've heard good and bad about them. And they dropped over half their price and I find that weird lol.
@@1ohmwrecker haha, yeah… I know witch cap you’re talking about. I don’t have any experience with those unfortunately.
You don't need any BMS? Or in the future?
I’ve been running it without a BMS for over a year… seems fine.
@@Husky_Shane_Basshead thanks!
Or just buy the group 31 supper cap bank made by the same company for 150$ with blue tooth
Yeah… except a group 31 is waaayy too big for my application. Thats why I didn’t do that.
Where did you order those capacitors?
Droppinhurtz
@@Husky_Shane_Basshead is that the store?
@@ronaldgalvizo3504 www.droppinhzcaraudio.com/#68f6/mobile/m=and&q=ioxus
Looks like maybe they don’t carry them anymore. I searched in their store and couldn’t find them.
Jesus bro, the intro music is like 10x louder than your voice.
Yeah I didn’t notice that when I made the video. You aren’t the first person to point it out. Sorry, still trying to figure out the editing process. Some of my more recent videos are better I think.
@@Husky_Shane_Basshead Yeah i watch YT late at night when my people are sleeping and i get home, i had to hit a mute button Fast AF not to wake them. Its like my volume was at 5% and it was still loud
@@user-el8yx7eh3h I reduced the volume of the intro on the later videos. I don’t think that’s a problem anymore.
Are you still using these in your build
Yes
Did you do a resistor or lamp between the charger and the cap bank?
I did not
I like your video but your music does seem to be a tad loud.
Yeah… I’m working on my video editing skills
No audio
Do you have problems with the alternator at low rpm? Example: th-cam.com/video/jgoIocPgOug/w-d-xo.html
Otherwise the above video is only a marketing video. This guy gives some other information: th-cam.com/video/KXG7-EegNV0/w-d-xo.html
I don’t have issues with the alternator. I have issues with the engine. This car only has 74hp so at low RPM wants to stall due to the load of the alt. Brand X warned about this and would not build anything bigger than a 240amp for exactly that reason. To run a higher output alt, I would need either a stronger engine or a larger drive pulley.
My car has only 71hp and i have nu issues with a installed supercapacitor 16V 100F and a 74 Ah lead accid battery. In the future i will try a 16V 500F capacitor with a 25Ah LIFEPO4 battery. I have also info from this youtube chanel: www.youtube.com/@madelectronengineering
@@tripelbier7335 the batteries aren’t the issue. The alternator is. It takes more power to turn a hi OP alt.
