  • @fetch7312
    @fetch7312 2 ปีที่แล้ว +209

    I started playing tf2 in 2020 and had similar issues with the game to the negative reviews but I kept playing instead of leaving and because I was stubborn I eventually struggled my way towards being a better player. I'm probably not very good still but I'm good enough that I don't have to worry that much about being the victim of a pubstomp. I think if you have less than like 100 hours on tf2 you probably don't have enough experience to judge the game, and I know that sounds gatekeepy but the skill required to stand up to players who have been playing the game for 15 years necessitates at least like 100 hours or something. For people who don't wanna sink that much time into a game, I guess it's understandable. For people that can and do on other games but won't with tf2, idk how legitimate a bad review would be coming from them. Maybe I am being a little elitist or something but I feel like these reviewers need some time with the game before they can weigh in with their opinions.

      Don't you see the problem of needing 4 days of gameplay (not playing for four days but the cumulative hours of four hours) to even get to have fun? I'm a big fan of fighting games which require too much from you to start to learn. And even those don't ask that much of you. And tbh even if the stock weapon is the best I still think putting items/weapons behind paywalls is still p2w, what do you think?

    • @fetch7312
      @fetch7312 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      @@mrblooper1994 you can unlock items as random free drops by playing the game and unlocking achievements. Also tons of community servers are offered where you can practice and play dumb modes like 100% crits or 100x stats. Also you can still have fun in the game without being good. when I started playing I got my ass kicked all the time and i still had fun because even when I got angry I would just fuck around. maybe I was just more willing to deal with initial bullshit because I knew the game was fun. Watching tf2ber videos prior probably did that for me

      @@MeltedBananaTaffy I will say that the needle gun gives the medic a decent chance to defend himself against light classes at short range (Engineer, Sniper, Spy, other Medics, and even some Scouts) it's just that those instances aren't likely to happen unless you're really out of position. The queue system was something I actually really liked, and still do. It was buggy and slow on launch, yes, but was fixed. If you play for 30 hours and arent having fun, even if that reason is just your arent good enough at the game, that still a perfectly reasonable reason to review negatively, and its even important for people who dont want to spend 100+ hours getting good to be able to see that people who play for 30 hours are still finding themselves massively outskilled.

    hey I love these videos, and you've been spot-on though I disagree with your stance on pay-to-play. on one hand, trading is not against the ToS like other games, so it's slightly easier to do, assuming you know the sites to do the trading in. on the other, it's scary to see a desktop game with a store. you need to know what to buy to even be able to trade, probably wait 14 days because teading requires Guard while buying games doesn't, and you better not have too many items already because even the permium inventory might not fit.
    duecto the free-to-play nature, more people will at least try to play it so the negative reviews are likely more trustworthy of a bigger group of players, as is shown in the video, and an inconvenience of 14 days of pure stock after having spent money on it if you even know how this phone game-looking shop is supposed to work is still a big hurdle.
    obviously, paid games have a group of players filtered out before they try and review it which makes them a bit more skewed, but somehow getting these weapons costs more time even if you paid, unless you pay for the equivelant of 2 AAA games

  • @robochicken9182
    @robochicken9182 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So I'm not sure when the review about tf2 being pay 2 win was made but many years ago there were this bullshit item sets that required you to not only have certain weapons equipped but also a hat and in exchange the gave you some strong bonuses such as scout having +25 health with a milkman set, soldier having 20% damage resistance from sentry guns with tankbuster set, and sniper being outright immune to headshots with croc-o-style set. The problem is that if you were f2p you couldn't even craft the hat for this item set because of valve arbitary restrictions on crafting, and you couldn't trade for them because f2p players can't trade.

  • @herald246
    @herald246 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    ...you mentioned that TF2 isn't P2P and casually glossed over the fact that the people who don't pay 5 dollars can't:
    - speak. Yes, speak. They can't use voice commands nor use voice or text chat.
    - they can't have friends. They can only speak to people if someone else adds them. But why would someone add them if they can't speak?
    So basically you're alienated in this game unless you pay valve money. You can't play (properly) unless you pay valve 5 bucks. Notice how those F2Ps only had #1: 2 hours, #2: 40 hours. Surely, they'd have had more hours if they could interact with the game and not be a spectator with legs and a gun.

But between my horrible setup making it take half a match to get into one (not valve's fault), the bots making it insufferable to try to interact with a match in a meaningful way (a lot more valve's fault), a lot of interesting content hidden behind paywalls that i can't be bothered to get around (mostly valve's fault), and the general difficulty of trying to get into a game that has been around for so long and populated almost entirely by hardcore fans (not valve's fault... But there would be more casual fans if they maintained the game better) it just doesn't seem worth the effort when i can play a single player game and get a far less new player hostile environment.
