Honestly. Knowing Ben's tendency to get overly complicated on his builds, I think having timed challenges like this is a good way to remind him to keep it simple. I'm looking forward to seeing what the final result is.
When you are under the gun , you do your most creative and best work. Yes mistakes happen but you always take them and turn them into something amazing . Like Bob Ross used to say “ THERE ARE NO MISTAKES, JUST HAPPY LITTLE ACCIDENTS “ . Bob Ross was a painting instructor on TV here in the States . I hope that I win this build.
I’m up for whatever you create. I’m a retired US Marine and use to gig but those days are in the past, for now. I’m prior Artillery, so a cannon guitar is within you capabilities, and maybe even a great idea for making a few military guitars for the men and women serving our countries. Just spitballing and hope to give you ideas. I have a daughter in Vienna Austria who plays as well, and if I’m not in the running for myself, maybe something for her, since she suffered as much if not more than I did while I was away in combat, because we had no idea if I’d return. To be honest, I think all combat veterans never come home 100% and like myself I Left my feelings and emotion long behind in 2003. Love watching you create, and your ART is inspiring. God Bless!
I paused the video at 3min to write this comment... Ben Crowe, my favorite TH-camr an favorite luthier just made the one statement that I have been waiting for since I sterted watching the Crimson Guitars channel... "I am gonma do a heavy metal inspired guitar" Consider me the happiest person alive at this moment! Ok now I shall enjoy the video. Thank you Ben! I WILL ONE DAY OWN ONE OF YOUR GUITARS BEN.
i like the timed builds because you usually finish them without spiralling into a 40 episode series, but i like the un-timed ones because you do crazier things, its a balance
I like both! Long drawn out large episodes for massive builds are great to watch, and the almost instant gratification videos with a one day type build is also great to watch. It keeps you in check with the simplicity, but you always pull something fantastic out of your ass within that time frame.
I really enjoy both the timed builds and regular custom build videos for very different reasons. The timed builds are exciting and I can actually feel the stress and nerves of the clock winding down. It's exciting television. The regular custom builds speak for themselves and give me a chance to see how your design and techniques evolve over the course of a custom guitar build. It's informative and inspiring. Either way, you're my Bob Ross in a more entertaining, edgy, funny way... You do not put me to sleep lol
It would be lovely to see Ben creates a "Shredding" oriented beast out of this project. He could show us all the tricks to spec-up a stunning looking guitar, transforming it into a super performative instrument for virtuoso players.
Def keep doing the timed builds. Limits what you can do, pushes you to do more, and produces results you wouldn’t normally get with unlimited time to mull things over
the only important thing is the final quality of your builds, and the tinny madness you put in sometimes, and also the learning process behind all of your videos and also the smiles you can give us, frankly, i really don't care about the rushing ability of all the craftsmen i like to watch working :)
A guitar kit remaining a guitar and not quite as much a collection of matches arranged to the shape of a guitar is a good thing, so a modest temporary limit on you might be a good thing. It should, however, allow for some degree of your getting carried away, for you actually have some of the most brilliant ideas. Letting you alone in a shop full of tools with a piece of wood seems to be similar to having an unattended child in a sweets shop. There's no stopping before the doctor is needed.
Love it love it love it. How about a group build, like Chinese whispers but with social distancing. Someone cuts the body, someone shapes it, someone paints it.
Ben, you're a Master Artist Luthier, take your time with your art as there is no need to rush, race or be on time clock. Your works are handcrafted musical instruments built by a master.
100% should offer this body shape as standard across the range! It's the most unique and sexy body shape I've seen you make and it just seems to come so easily and naturally to you.
Ben I think your work is utterly awesome. I think you like to do the time build thing because you do your best work while you feel you are under pressure. Without that pressure, you tend to wander on your builds and change direction. Usually, with that wandering around comes some of your greatest artistic builds ever. Your fan base is going to watch you because you are you, regardless of whether you are trying to beat the clock or trying to do something a little crazy and downright amazing. I guess with that said, I have to vote for the wild and crazy artistical side of Ben Crowe.
Do what makes you happy Ben, thanks for the entertainment, knowledge and inspiration. You cover a wide range of video types, it's a pleasure watching you work under all sorts of different situations.
7.22 in and I'm thinking, "that looks like my old Black & Decker Proline angle grinder". Which I bought 25 years ago. And is still going strong. "Nah", I muse, "Ben has his own tool company". Well blow me down; a B&D Proline it is! One of the best tools I ever bought. From the days when B&D used to know how to make stuff. I don't know why this has made me feel so happy. I guess it's a bit like spotting your favourite record in someone else's collection.
All your videos are amazing, Ben! It's super seeing someone of your skill sharing your delight in a challenge like this! Can't wait to see what comes of this build.
Ben! I’m a watchmaker and you should take your watch off when sanding! Yes an explorer 1 is waterproof but tiny particles can still get in the watchcase!
I'd love any guitar Ben built, but does anyone else see the humor in " hey, I'm going to rust through this build and give it away". Ben's rush job is better than most big name factory off the shelf stuff. Do timed builds, my friends and I always have a pool going as to how far over time you'll go.😆
It is a little fun to watch you rush about once in a while. It is also fun to see you be very creative when you have time. I do hope you make the deadline.
Great colour, it is a pleasant change of pace. It does not matter what build you do; they are enjoyable to watch. Especially when you change your mind midway through. If you could not do a build in 240 mins, I do not think you would have started it. So yes, you will finish it.
Timed builds? Yes, please. Mega-project builds? Yes, please. Completely bonkers builds? Yes, please. Themed series builds? (i.e. Set of 3 or 4 or 5 guitars all related to a particular theme like Viking or Dune or Star Wars etc.) Yes, please. Tutorials? Yep. Reactions? Meh. I honestly don't care what you build - I'll be here to watch it even though I neither build nor play guitar. I appreciate the craft and those that love it, at all skill levels. Cheers from your friends here in Canada!
I love the timed builds. The 12h is my favourite! I prefer the longer ones at it gives a chance not only to do things well but also introduces level 1 ben craziness.
Hi Ben I found your channel by accident and I’m so glad I did. You are a true craftsman. Simply amazing work. Anybody would be thrilled and blessed to own one of your guitars.
Personally Ben, although the timed builds are fun, I prefer just watching you come up with a nice guitar. I would love to see how nice of a finish you can achieve with sprays can finish only. For those of us who want to build along, but don’t have access to professional spray equipment. Great channel!!
I think you can and should do this for sure. As a relatively newer subscriber, this is neat and I love seeing guitars with basic colour finishes. Love it, keep it up.
Looking forward to seeing the rest of this series Ben. Perhaps meet in the middle with a timed build and a timed 5 minute decision timer when you have a choice to make, so like a two timer, wait...lol
Don't bother with rushing. You've set the standard my friend. And/or you can simply add time, per your mile stones. Heh heh I'm stoked to see the reveal! I'd love to Rock any one of your Guitars, and more-so an aggressive one-off!! Peace and Joy; for the battle Michael Francis
Seriously, I’d be fine with a mix of timed builds and non-timed builds. I love seeing your thought process through it all. Some of the cooler builds you’ve made can’t be squashed in to time crunches. 😉
I would love to see some more variation in finishes in future builds. Sunburst, metallic or solid paint colours, relic etc. Thanks for all the awesome builds and hours upon hours of entertainment 😉
I truly like the time constraint. It is somewhat liberating, in that you're unable to 2nd guess yourself & live with whatever decision you made. It is also fun & interesting to witness your reactions as we view your creative process, the thinking on your feet. Allowing your past actions to guide you, as you continue on to the completion of this particular project. This self CHALLENGE.
STAR WARS STAR BODY!! I'll watch anything you put out! If the times builds give you inspiration then keep em coming but definitely love listening to the ramblings. You got this though
I like seeing what's possible in a time constraint, as it s encouraging when life gives you little free time that I could and will build a guitar or another bass kit.
A perfect day: First watch a video with Ben building a guitar, then go to my own shop and do the same. Would almost be disappointed if you made it in 250 minutes, please do some over-complicating!
You are the best around, you have put so much time and effort into everything you start and you see it through to the end... you can do this and you should make more time builds and maybe make them even crazier than ever before...... so from South Africa with love ♥
Ties builds do have an interesting side-effect of forcing you to come up with interesting solutions to problems. Pressure can make you creative. But there's also the problem of not getting enough time to do what you want. You must have a backlog of stuff you want to try out that you came up with while doing the timed builds and you want to put it into a guitar, so perhaps it's time to do an prototyping episode like with the hollow explorer. That was awesome.
YES All is right in the world Saturday morning coffee and insanity with Ben. Got myself a freshly brewed mug of coffee and the Crimson t-shirt I won from Leo and Ted's.
I enjoy it when you do the really unique stuff. The Complication, BOB1, and the gold leaf river guitar are some of my favorites. The only bass build you've done in recent memory was the kit build P-bass, I'd absolutely love to see you do a multiscale six string bass fully custom with your unique spin on it.
I hadn’t realized it’s been missing from the past couple builds, or that I would miss it myself but, I really have missed watching you take an angle grinder to a guitar. Can’t wait to see the finished product.
The timed builds are great Ben. Neil Young was once asked why he didn't hire better musicians than his band and his response was that his band was perfect for him because they weren't good enough to mess things up! Trouble is you've gotten to such a high conceptual level that I think you actually need handicaps and limitations to prevent you from trying to re-invent the wheel by thinking "what if it wasn't quite so,.... ROUND".
I expected the color to be black outside and red in the middle given the 'gothic' theme, but I like this color; didn't expect the PINK stain to produce quite this result, so good to know :) I think this demonstration of a specific set of skills is quite instructive for prospective guitar builders - knowing you could take one of these kits and turn out a pretty decent guitar in less than a day is really great and potentially a start of a business.
I like the video layout of the timed builds. They always seem to be better quality than other builds. With that said, you’ve already proved your crazy and crazy good at building under pressure. Do what you want and I’ll be following along.
The time builds are great Ben. A time build where you are only allowed to take material away but not add, with the exception of the hardware necessary for being playable.
I love your long time builds, but as s1 pointed already, you kinda make them super complicated, what is cool but you know, sometimes sth simple is amazing too ;). It is good to see a guitar that mere mortals like us could attempt to build, one in a while. All your other guitar are such an art pieces that thought of building them for example for me, well it is just impossible. Mostly what I wanna say it gives us some diversity, that I personaly love. Thx for amazing content and keep on doing what you are doing ;D
aaah yes, "old building floor-board orange" the metallest of colours. i do love the shape though, no doub it's going to be beastly, but as a metal guitarist, that colour would put me off a lot.
First decision art, crafts and skills leads to the most truly creative beauty. Or we are left with a pile of challenges where we learn the lessons that says you should have got in the tune your task, materials and time from the start. As for this build..........? can you use the wrist bands as insert edging and the rings and tone and volume knobs. And one of the dragins heads as a switch end. A bit formulaic, but you only have 250 mins. And if your giving this away after the build, I'm in Chideock on the 16th Oct this year. I could get myself a clean facemask and pop over to pick it up. THANX again.
Don't rush it Ben, just build another one of your Masterpieces! Still waitin for you to build a Antonio Stradivirus-type electric guitar. See if it songs like the violins?
Since some are shouting out their favorite unofficial builds, here are mine... A guy named Ray Baggett is doing an amazing dragon inlay project that is looking awesome. A channel called King Bespoke Creations is doing a carved Strat wrapped in angel wings guitar that will be amazing. A channel called Bonehead Guitars is doing a a guitar that looks like an Ice Cream Sandwich with a bite out of it. Maybe it's just the heat wave, but I like it. Honorable mentions: There are at least two women doing builds; and whenever the girls step up to take on the boys, I root for 'em. One of them is a woman named Laura who's channel is called Broken Wind, and her accent is almost as cool as Ben's. She is building a guitar that looks like a cow's face and she has named Violet. This is a woman with a sense of humor and whimsy and I like her. The other is a channel called "Built By Goddess Guitars." I'm not sure where she is going with her project, but it looks like it will be interesting too. Also honorable mention to the guy who did the herringbone plywood guitar, that looks cool.
I like to see the best of what a master builder can do, rather than what can be done within a time limit. Still, it adds another element, and we get to see a result sooner. Like seeing match highlights.
Yeah, no more time limit builds.. I don't want to be known mainly as the guy who cut corners for views.. though the problem solving that comes with a deadline is sometimes fun. B
It's great idea (to have a raw kit - body & neck) so each can shape it to its dream. If you are going to make it a "Metal" style, I would suggest to stain it much durker and use "Gun's titanium" chrome plating accessories (pickup, bridge, tuners) to fit your other metal jewelry you showed. looking forward to final results. Good luck with your new challenge!
I’m not sure if you should do time builds or not, that’s up to you I enjoy watching you put a guitar together. Good or bad or even fail it’s all fun to watch. So Farr you got it going your way.
Ben, would love to see you doing more guitars with contrasting tops. Maybe find some crazy woods that people usually don't associate with guitars and show how those could be equally as pretty or prettier than maple. What'cha'think?
Timed builds are great. Would like to see follow up content where you revisit the build and keep working after the clock to do the things you wanted to do but didnt have the time.
I like timed builds. There are a fewer episodes and it is fun to see your creative process working in overdrive. But I would sprinkle time builds in among the non time sensitive ones for nice a balance.
If the past can predict the future, the odds are you'll go overtime. It's just the way it is. Some things will never change. LOL but everyone loves cliffhangers!
Timed challenges mean you push yourself to focus on getting it done, so you'll end up not only increasing your suited but your quality of finish in a short time.
I finally have a day off, and it’s cool enough to get to work on setting up my work shop- what a great video as a motivation for just getting it finally done, after being in our new place for 11 weeks now.
You should do these kind of builds if you enjoy doing it. If it’s not fun for you, it won’t be fun for us. I you enjoy more doing themed builds or customers specials, we’re gonna enjoy watching you have fun ^^
I like the timed challenges but, and I feel like I'm shouting into the wind here, I hate the time compressed videos. I like that the six hour build was six one hour videos, and the nine and twelve hour builds were the same way. When I see you have posted a video on a Saturday morning I go put on some coffee, make an omelet, and sit down to have breakfast and coffee while I watch. This video was over before the coffee cooled enough to drink. This feels more like watching the trailer instead of the movie.
"Two Sheds", this looks like another great build! I do like the long term builds where you can do what ever you want. Where you can try something that takes 12 hours of your time. But I also like the timed builds where you are forced to build something that a new builder can do. I'd like to build my own guitar. I don't have the space anymore. (Don't ever live in the same small townhouse for 35 years!) I have most of the tools, but I really need a shed, maybe two! We are looking for a house in the country where I can have a dedicated shop. Anyway... I really enjoy your videos! I've learned a lot about how guitars are made, and make me think I can do that too. Thanks!
I think deadlines help keep one focussed, but when setting the deadline you have to consider costs, quality, creativity, and so on. So, no, you don't need to set a randomly challenging building time, but you need to keep the build focused to keep the vid interesting.
Honestly. Knowing Ben's tendency to get overly complicated on his builds, I think having timed challenges like this is a good way to remind him to keep it simple. I'm looking forward to seeing what the final result is.
That was my exact thought
Agreed... will be interesting to see Ben ‘reined in’ by a deadline!
Yeah, agreed. Doesn't mean he has to ONLY to timed builds. He can go full bonkers on other builds :)
Final results likely 256 min
Hit the nail right on the head, my man!!

Weekend morning, coffee in hand and a Ben Crowe guitar build vid... all’s right with the world. 😊
Thank you for your support dude, I hope both the coffee and the video were worth it. B
Always, my friend. Always.
I really enjoy both the timed builds and regular custom build videos for very different reasons. The timed builds are exciting and I can actually feel the stress and nerves of the clock winding down. Ben, I love your chat while you work I learn so much from you, not so keen on long periods of music and speeded up video. Cheers Dave.
100% should offer this body shape as standard across the range! It's the most unique and sexy body shape I've seen you make and it just seems to come so easily and naturally to you.
When are we seeing the Star Wars guitar Ben? Looking forward to that one.
Hear, hear!
Definitely this 👍👍👍👍
Agreed !
Please keep the original trilogy in mind.
I was literally thinking this before looking at the comments. 😂

258 minutes. And you absolutely should do timed builds. Thanks for these and keep them coming

I love your timed builds. They're what pulled me in and offer serious insight into the whole build process. Plus, they're simple and not crazy.
So, give myself a realistic time limit, say a week, and don't go too crazy with the design then? B
I truly like the time constraint. It is somewhat liberating, in that you're unable to 2nd guess yourself & live with whatever decision you made.

Thank you for doing so much for the community. You have done a fine job with it. What a great idea. I hope you keep doing it. Im in next year for sure
Keep on keeping on, Ben. The timed builds are compulsive watching. Actually all your builds are great watching.
just received my 1st crimson order this week. it arrived super-quick and i couldn't be happier. thanks lads!
I vote no for timed builds. The world is always in a rush. Take your time. We will be here watching!
Yes times builds ! To balance out the crazy all-out builds you usually do. Keep things simple and make it more suspenseful with a time limit :)
Your smile at the beginning of the video made my day ! How cool to see you're still so enthousiast about building projects !
STAR WARS STAR BODY!!
I'll watch anything you put out! If the times builds give you inspiration then keep em coming but definitely love listening to the ramblings.

All your other guitar are such an art pieces that thought of building them for example for me, well it is just impossible.
Mostly what I wanna say it gives us some diversity, that I personaly love. Thx for amazing content and keep on doing what you are doing ;D
yet again I'm astonished how fast you can progress in your builds. The Body-Shape looks great, maybe some sunburst effect with darker colours?
I watch to see you build a guitar, I really don't care how long it takes.
Same for jewelery.
Me too, the problem with timed builds is they tend to be over too quick.
Me To
I agree
I like the timed builds, but I think they're just one of a palette of videos you can offer to keep it interesting for both us and you.
aaah yes, "old building floor-board orange" the metallest of colours. i do love the shape though, no doub it's going to be beastly, but as a metal guitarist, that colour would put me off a lot.
Absolutely gorgeous, I can't believe how quick that turned into a dream guitar. The winner of that guitar is one lucky player.
Lovin the shape choice! Hoping to be the lucky one!! Congrats on 250,000. You deserve 1,000,000. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and art.
I think you are creative when under pressure. Just love it
Since some are shouting out their favorite unofficial builds, here are mine...
I don’t care how long you take to build it, I’m still going to watch!
Thank you 😊 B
I like to see the best of what a master builder can do, rather than what can be done within a time limit. Still, it adds another element, and we get to see a result sooner. Like seeing match highlights.
Yeah, no more time limit builds.. I don't want to be known mainly as the guy who cut corners for views.. though the problem solving that comes with a deadline is sometimes fun. B
I think you will do it. Looks like you are going to knock it out of the park again.
"I'm going to stop talking." Yeah right..............Yes you can do it. Yes do timed builds. Inspiring.
I like the 12 hour guitar shape. Nice to see it again.
what a change, a decisive Ben, well done, heavy metal rules
Timed builds are awesome. I love the pressure!... Although I'm slightly surprised at the lack of coffee ☕ 😂
Its videos like these, and the bereftness of left handed guitars in general, that make me want to build my own! Thank you for the inspiration, Ben. 👍
Interesting shape. Perfect stain choice. Keep going with timed builds - great entertainment.
I love the timed builds. The suspense is riveting.
I’m sure this will be done by now but a simple flat black would be both an interesting change of pace and a nice background to those gothic pieces.
Man I want this guitar! You sir are quickly becoming a guitar legend!
You should do these kind of builds if you enjoy doing it. If it’s not fun for you, it won’t be fun for us.
I you enjoy more doing themed builds or customers specials, we’re gonna enjoy watching you have fun ^^
That really is the kicker, I need to be having fun. Thanks for reminding me of that! B
The shape of this guitar is like a combination of both of the guitarists' signature guitars in A7X.
Just keep making cool guitars bro. We don't tune in to see if you made the deadline. We watch and enjoy the process of creation. Keep Creating!
I challenge you to embed those rings in resin to make knobs. Probably not for this build, but definitely in the future.
Really looking forward to this guitar. I love the body shape already. And I'm all for timed builds, they are lots of fun!
